Tammy Avatar

Last skin concern I addressed: Flaking secondary to use of retin A. I addressed this by using glycolic acid solution before retin A.

Brands I like for skin care: Generic trentinoin, Alpha Hydroxy glycolic acid, Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Mask, Skin Ceuticals CE Ferulic, and AmorePacific Future Response Age Defense Cream. For eyes I use Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic and Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum. I have loved using the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate for face and especially the Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate (I’ve been working through my deluxe samples for about two months of twice weekly applications) but I will not purchase unless I find that there is evidence that the ingredients are beneficial for aging skin.

I indulge my skin with Saturday masks.

Tammy Avatar

OMG, I forgot to mention Jan Marini’s Peptide Extreme serum! Love this stuff and have been using it for 3-4 years. I put it on about an hour after I use retin A.

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/warm
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Acne.
What brands do you like most for skin care? Origins, Ren.
What’s one way you indulge your skin? Sheet masks! I go to Koreatown and buy a ton and use them at least weekly. I think they really have made a difference. I also use Origins clay masks.

Dianne Avatar

Skin tone: Fair with neutral undertones
Last skin concern: I get the occasional zit on my chin. A little bit of benzoyl peroxide clears it up in a couple days.
What brands do you like the most for skincare? Origins, Sunday Riley, and Caudalie
What’s one way you indulge your skin? I do a face mask every other night, if not every single night! I also use face mists throughout the day.

Dianne Avatar

I have three that I use kind of interchangeably– the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, the Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, and the Mario Badescu Face Spray with Aloe, Herb, and Rosewater. Occasionally I’ll spray them on after my toner and before moisturizer, sometimes (especially in the summer!) I just spray them on because it feels nice and cools me off a bit. All the brands claim it adds moisture, tones, and etc., but I’ve never really noticed skin benefits. I just enjoy them as a splurge because they’re refreshing and smell nice. 🙂

Lisa Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair. I wear Finland in NARS tinted moisturizer and Porcelain in Becca foundation.

Your skin tone/coloring: Dark Deep/ NW50

What was the last skin concern you addressed? Hella Oily Skin, dark spots and pores

What brands do you like most for skin care? There’s too many to list. My skin gets use to products if I use them for 3 consist months. So I tend switch up my skincare routine every 4-6 weeks. Currently I’m using Philosophy, Murad, Laneige, Shea Moisture, Derma E, Clarins, May Coop, Aveeno, PIxi…the list goes on…

What’s one way you indulge your skin? Sheet Masks have been my saving grace lately! It gives my skin a spa like feel without the spa like prices! I once did a different sheet mask everyday for a week and the results were amazing! Since then I try to do some sort of mask every night. (overnight, sheet, or clay)

Fashn Avatar

My skin tone/coloring-Medium with yellow undertones

Skin concerns- I am still trying to address my very oily eyes, skin underneath my eyes is also very oily. I keep trying primers, matte foundation, oil-free products, nothing helps. This is all due from a hormonal change, never had these issues before until recently.

Skin products I use- Lancôme
Indulge my skin-Masks

Sarah Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: cream puff innards with neutral/warm undertones and normal skin
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Post-waxing breakout around my eyebrows. All of the “it’s just gonna soothe your skin, no zits afterward” comments are false when it comes to my skin lol.
What brands do you like most for skin care? Paula’s Choice! I’ve been using them for four years and they work marvelously. For some skin types, their products and regiments might be a bit strong–the line I use includes 2 different exfoliating toners for daily use and another 2 moisturizers–but you can definitely mix and match products. Soooooo worth the price to splurge for this brand over drugstore!
What’s one way you indulge your skin? I’m about to start indulging with some serious mask magic! Never used masks before so I’ll try a couple through the next month. For now, I’ll clean my face with a cooling cleanser and wash it off with a warm washcloth for some nighttime facial relaxation.

Anne Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, pink undertones
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Dryness (always a battle royale)
What brands do you like most for skin care? Decleor (everything for dry skin), Sunday Riley Flora
What’s one way you indulge your skin? Decleor Hydra Flora (overnight mask — HG, it’s magical)

Nancy T Avatar

Your skintone/ coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones, deep brunette, teal-green eyes w/ gold flecks.

Last skincare issue you addressed: Crows feet and some aging in the eye area. A big “thank you” goes to fellow reader, Wendy, for the rec on Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid & Retinol Eye Serum! That stuff kicks butt! ?

What brands of skincare do you like the best: FAB, Dr. Dennis Gross, Ole Henrikson, Hada Labo, Origins, and that no name Retinol Serum.

What’s one way you indulge your skin: Tightening, deep moisturizing masks. Love sheet masks!

Katherine T. Avatar

I think I needs to try that Dr. Dennis Retinol Eye Serum! You’re the 3rd reader to mention that. My lids are smooth (one benefit of super oily lids), but the under eye is dry and has fine lines.

Nicole Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Pale, warm toned. NC-15ish.

What was the last skin concern you addressed? Sensitivity and texture. I don’t know if it’s my sunscreen, the incessant humidity, if I’m using too many products or if it’s just stress, but my skin has been terrible lately. My usual foundations aren’t working well, my favorite powder looks awful, I have so much redness I can just kiss blush goodbye. It’s driving me up the wall.

What brands do you like most for skin care? Probably dr. brandt, or maybe Kiehl’s. They both produce consistent results for me. dr. brandt’s Save Our Skin cream has been on high alert at my vanity lately.

What’s one way you indulge your skin? Face masks, usually. I love face masks. I used one that was absolutely blissful the other day-Secret Garden Olive Oil Ampoule sheet mask that I got in an ipsy bag. My skin needed the moisture so badly (in spite of the fact that I use moisturizer twice a day). I usually don’t buy single use masks, but I might actually buy that one. I also really love the Glossier Mega Greens and Moisturizing Moon masks. They make my skin look great afterwards and the Moisturizing Moon one is really moisturizing, but they do make my skin tingle so they aren’t as comfortable to wear as I’d like.

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, have you tried The Body Shop Aloe Protective Restoring Mask? Reader Anne, who has sensitive skin, had recommended it to me. First ingredient is aloe and it’s organic aloe. The product has no fragrance, bad alcohols, or added color or added preservatives. I use a lot of retinols this seems to prevent irritation and redness. You can use as mask, but it’s so gentle that I just leave it on overnight as a cream, and I’ve been doing that for months. They also have an Aloe Soothing Night Cream, which is thick and moisturizing, and a Day Cream, which is very light. Ulta and the Body Shop usually have value kits. Just a thought….

Nicole Avatar

Thank you so much for the recommendation, Katherine T. (and Anne)! I really appreciate it. I haven’t tried that yet. Honestly my skin is getting on my nerves so much that I’d try just about anything, but that mask sounds absolutely amazing to me right now. It looks like Ulta has a kit that contains that mask and the creams you mentioned-I am definitely going to purchase it, probably in the next five minutes. Thank you again!

acne
Neutrogena, garnier
I indulge by doing a different exfoliator every week, facials the day after, and cleansing with mineral water before bed every night

Light-med, coolish. Omg, I’m developing a small stye! Left upper lid. Thank god I got back my doggie eye ointment. Already taking it down. No makeup for a while, just when the Visearts are coming! Boo and bad words! Skin type: aging, oily, dehydrated. Use: Paula, Paula, more Paula. A tad of Hada Labo, FAB, Kose sheet masks, Sephora sleeping masks. Always looking for more sheet masks, but only have shopped locally. Most have aloe. Need to add AHA, which will be either Alpha, Derma E, Mizon, or CosRx. Every Paula AHA has aloe, except the moisturizer. I want it in a watery or essence type product.

Your skin tone/coloring: NC15 with some redness

What was the last skin concern you addressed? Either sensitivity, redness or dryness. Those are the hydra heads for me.

What brands do you like most for skin care? First Aid Beauty (fantastic everything if you have sensitive or dry skin), Origins (good masks, moisturizers and eye creams), Kiehl’s (same as Origins and their oils are good too), The Body Shop (good more budget-friendly price), La Roche-Posay (great sun products, moisturizers and serums).

What’s one way you indulge your skin? Masks! I love them to bits and it’s not too difficult to use them when my pain levels are low. I’d preferably use them at least once a week, pain level allowing.

Rachel R. Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones. Oily to combo oily, occasionally normal, depending on my hormones du jour.

What was the last skin concern you addressed? I’m working on my eyes. My undereyes seem to be really dry since I was so sick in March, and my crows feet are worse. I’m looking for something to help. My old creams aren’t cutting it.

What brands do you like most for skin care? I have been using NuSkin for years, but I want to switch to cruelty free. I’ll probably try Paula’s Choice, as I’ve gotten tons of good recommendations for them.

What’s one way you indulge your skin? I use masks whenever I think about it. lol

>Your skin tone/coloring: fair, warm
>What was the last skin concern you addressed? excess oiliness due to summer humidity. I switched foundations (from Laneige to Tarte Amazonian) and occasionally use a stronger toner.
>What brands do you like most for skin care? Neutrogena, Cerave and for one toner SK-II, but I haven’t done enough research as my skin’s changed with ageing lately, and I eagerly look forward to others’ comments
>What’s one way you indulge your skin? Several ways, actually … I don’t hesitate on cost of two prescription meds (a retinol something and an antibiotic) that sometimes my insurance covers and sometimes doesn’t. These two plus the SK-II cellumination mask-in lotion changed my world. Oh, and the best sunscreen I can find (La Roche Posay SPF 60) and drinking lots and lots of water.

Katherine T. Avatar

*Skin Issue – stepped up the exfoliating to 3-4x per week
*Skin products – love Paula’s Choice retinols, Peter Thomas Roth peels, Supergoop Sunscreens
*Skin Indulgence – masks, facial mists

Skin tone: fair, porcelain with pink undertones
Last skin concern addressed: there are a few: redness on cheeks – I am now using Physicians Formula Argon Oil under my serum and it is really nourishing my skin. Anti Aging – Neutragena’s Anti Aging Serum and night time moisturizer has decreased my fine lines around my eyes and mouth.
Favourite brands: QV Daily moisturiser, mask and cleanser (an Australian cruelty free brand) as it has SPF 30 in the moisturiser (essential in Aus), Physicians Formula – just as good as Josie Maran’s Argon Oil but without the HE price tag.
Indulge my skin: Moisturising mask once a week by QV.

Karen Avatar

Skin tone: Light-medium to medium.
Latest Concern: Anti-aging, moisturization.
Brands: First Aid Beauty, Kiehls, Murad. Plus too many others to name,
Latest indulgence: A two pack of travel size Evian misters. Yes, water in a can. I keep one in the refrigerator and alternate with the one in my purse. Feels SO good on these hundred plus temperature days!

Rachel C. Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Deep dark warm

What was the last skin concern you addressed? Texture/ tiny bumps. It was a reaction from a Smashbox primer sample. I had to use an allergy cream, cetaphil moisturizer products for a while.

What brands do you like most for skin care? Shiseido, fresh, ole Henrickson, Bobby brown, simple. I’m just trying a few things from murad now. I also can’t live without pure organic rose hips seed oil from my local Organic food market. It helps with brightening and discoloration.

What’s one way you indulge your skin? Monthly professional facials. I get glycolic peels- for sensitive skin, nothing heavy duty. I always wear sunscreen as well. Usually spf 50.

What was the last skin concern you addressed? F*&#ing Lupus. I look like Rudolph. Some minor plaques on my arms. Sigh
What brands do you like most for skin care? Zo Skin Health, iS Clinical, Skinceuticals, Sunday Riley

Mariella Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
What was the last skin concern you addressed? probably broken capillaries (I had them treated with laser)
What brands do you like most for skin care? So, so many – Clarins, La Neige, Ole Henriksen, Shiseido, Boscia, Dermalogica, Vasanti (amazing Canadian company), Sephora’s own house brand, a bit of Clinique, Erno Laszlo …the list goes on and on
What’s one way you indulge your skin? Hmmm, probably sunscreen EVERY DAY and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. Occasionally, a facial at a Dermalogica salon.

Samantha Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/cool
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Redness/dry skin. To combat the redness, I have been staying away from products that irritate my skin and dry it out (such as foundation; I substitute with CCs such as It Cosmetics and BBs such as Missha). I have also used Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, Sunday Riley Luna, and Missha Time Revolution. My skin has never had less redness! Now if I could only make it less dry. If my skin is this dry in the humid southeast summer weather, how is it going to be in the autumn and winter?
What brands do you like most for skin care? Sunday Riley, Shiseido, Oskia, Fresh, Missha, Peter Thomas Roth, Estee Lauder, Erborian, Lush, and Etude House.
What’s one way you indulge your skin? As evidenced by the above list, several ways! I love having face masks/sheet masks a couple of times a week. I also enjoy (or sometimes grunt through) my nightly skincare routine. If I do not, I pay for it later!

Lulle Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light and warm
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Acne. I haven’t had a zit in over a month. I hope I’m not jinxing myself!
What brands do you like most for skin care? Peter Thomas Roth, Algenist, HAND, Institut Esthederm.
What’s one way you indulge your skin? I used to have facials regularly but I haven’t had one in 2 years. I really need to do it again!

Skintone: Light-medium with episodic redness

Latest Skin Concern: Periodic redness and anti-aging

Skincare Brands Used: Lancome Visionnaire, Bobbi Brown Extra Repair, Clarins, First Aid Beauty Serum (Redness Relief), trying Paula’s Choice 1℅ Clinical Retinol, Lancome and Charlotte Tilbury cleansers, Aveda and Bobbi Brown masks.

Indulgence: I love applying Lancome Visionnaire’s Gel-in-Oil Night ‘cream’ as part of my nightly skincare routine – it feels soothing, sometimes even cool, has a nice scent, and leaves my skin feeling so soft. It was a Christmas gift from my mom (who never buys me skincare but it was new in Canada last winter) and I love it.

Diana Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-Medium with Warm undertone (NC 20-25)
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Dry patches on my nose
What brands do you like most for skin care? Paula’s Choice (most skin care I have is from PC, I loved all their products I used)
What’s one way you indulge your skin? Using serums is the most indulging thing for my skin (morning, night, after a good workout, etc).

Gillian Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fairest neutral. Currently loving Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation in Y205 Alabaster.

What was the last skin concern you addressed? My acne. It came on suddenly about six months ago and I finally gave up trying to fight it myself so I went to the doctor and was prescribed Zineryt, so fingers crossed that it helps!

What brands do you like most for skin care? The main one that I can get in my local Boots at reasonable prices is La Roche Posay. For more pricey skincare I really like Estée Lauder and Sunday Riley. There are others but those are the first ones to come to mind, so I figured that must be a sign. ?

What’s one way you indulge your skin? Face masks! Purifying ones and hydrating ones mostly since my face gets dehydrated despite having, for the most part, oily skin.

Mo Merrell Avatar

I think I did this one already but IDK lol

Your skin tone/coloring: Warm/Dark Cocoa
What was the last skin concern you addressed? Dry Patches – my mom had and my sister and I get circular dry patches every summer and winter like clock work. To combat this I keep my skin moisturized with a nice skin care routine. For moisturizers I use Josie Maran argan cream mainly in the morning, aveeno moisturizer topped with aloe vera gel at night. Wash my face with black African soap.
What brands do you like most for skin care? Boscia, Aveeno, Josie Maran, and Caudalie
What’s one way you indulge your skin? I exfoliate every other day,

Michelle Avatar

1. Medium cool toned. I wear Estee Lauder 3C2 Pebble and sometimes mix in 4C3 Softan in Summer. Mac NW25-35
2. Large pores in T-zone are my main concern. So is Rosecea to a lesser extent.
3. Clinique/Peter Thomas Roth/Neutrogena/Estee Lauder
4. I make my own masks with 1) Avocado, Honey, freshly extracted Aloe Vera gel and Milk for dry areas and 2) Clay or Charcoal, Honey, freshly extracted Aloe Vera gel, whipped Egg Whites and Distilled Water for my oily areas. I put on both and let them sit until I can feel the clay or charcoal harden and wash both off. My friends think I should sell them but the market is already flooded with enough masks. I make my own so I know they are freshly made and effectual.
