Summer Makeup: The Setting Sun
Summer Makeup: The Setting Sun
If you’ve been a long-time reader, you’ve probably gotten the hint that I love me some sunset-ish colors and looks. I can’t help it! I gravitate towards them. Golds got a hold on me! I think I’m going to do a green look next. Like totally freakin’ green. I try to give greens a rest, since I also have a thing for green, but I think I am due for something green.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow (gold), MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow (copper), MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow (cranberry), MAC Antiqued Eyeshadow (warm dark brown), MAC Orb Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: MAC Margin Blush (dirty coral), Dior Amber Diamond SkinShimmer (bronze highlighter)
- Lips: MAC Funbathing Lipstick (berry), MAC Easy Lounger Lipglass (soft pink)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 217 (fluffy angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Funbathing = O; Easy Lounger = Prr
For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Goldmine eyeshadow on the entire lid. Lightly blend Cranberry eyeshadow on the inner crease with the 217. Next, apply Amber Lights eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid with the 239. Define the crease with Antiqued eyeshadow and the 226. Blend Orb eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lucky liner on the lower lash line and then pat Goldmine eyeshadow beneath. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Margin blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Amber Diamond skinshimmer on the cheekbones to highlight.
For lips, apply Funbathing lipstick first, and then layer Easy Lounger lipglass for a complementing lip.

Hi Christine, I love this look!! I’m a big gold fan too and I’ve been experimenting lots lately. I look up your archive of colours that I like and try to recreate them. Not always successfully since I don’t have the exact same shadows but you gotta try!! What brush do you use to pat Goldmine underneath the lucky liner? I’m saving up to buy the Urban Decay liners from the UK and get them posted to South Africa. Congrats on finsihing your exams, enjoy your summer and keep up the good work!
Thanks, Brenda 🙂
I used the edge of the 239!
You probably love it so much because you simply look so good in it. I think these colours suit you best. A lovely look indeed. Gorgeous.

Beautiful job christine ! Im gonna try this look for work today. I was wondering if you can tell me how do you get your bottom lash eyeliner to look so smooth. Everytime i put any eyeliner it seems to clump with my lower lashes and it doesnt look nice. I have so many UD 24/7 that i want to try but i cant seem to get it to work. Whats your secret ? Do you blend or just apply it ?Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I just apply it – but there might be a lil’ blending since I usually put an eyeshadow on the lower lash line, too!
Loving the look! Perfect for the beach.
Thank you, Jeanice!
Gorgeous! =o

Thank you, Cherokee!
Couldn’t love this look more! I’m all about beachy bronzes, golds and peaches this summer! This look could be easily substituted by UD Baked 24/7 liner and MAC Heat/Element duo. Just a suggestion!
Thanks a lot, Sugarfree!
The colours really compliment your brown eyes!~
Lovely~
Thank you! 🙂
golds got a hold on me too:]
i think this would have looked great with a slightly brighter lipstick too :]
Thanks, Nikki!
Whoa!!!! this is gorgeous Christine. Will try this look today.
Thanks a lot, Liz!
Cool, I already do a look like this with NARS Duo in Meddeterrane (um, I think that’s how it’s spelled). But I wear it a bit differently with the orangeish color blended on the outside and the crease. Also, the orange is more orange (yours is more coral, almost with a hint of brown). I call my look “carribean sunrise” and recently have been adding gold/green in the center for summer!
However, I like the way you layered the shadows directly on top instead of at the edge. I will have to try that. Also, I have a more coralish color than the orange and will try that as well.
Thanks for the ideas, as always!
Sounds lovely!
LOVE this look! you look gorgeous as always. and i see you’re using the 217 in more tutorials. glad ur liking it a little more now 🙂
Thanks, Mary!
Still don’t really find it necessary, but might as well use it…
soooo pretty!
Thank you, Giosi!
I love how you don’t always have neutral looks. You are more of a color type of girl I guess, me too!
I love neutrals but also love colors 😀
