Spring Makeup: Gold, Green, & Teal with Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette

Spring Makeup: Gold, Green, & Teal with Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette

I love the lips for this look.  It’s my new favorite lip combo, and as soon as I slipped on Le Metier de Beaute Apricot Creme, I completely remember why I shelled out $36 for it.  In fact, I think I’m going to place an order for a few more later this week!

My major criticisms of the Urban Decay palette (aside from the lack of new shades) were: lack of matte/satin finished eyeshadows and lack of a highlighter. The glittery shades definitely leave a nice mess of glitter beneath the eye — so I recommend applying your eyeshadow first and then cleaning up afterward, at which point you can apply your face makeup (foundation, blush, etc.). I used Lancome Bi-Facil on a cotton round to remove the majority of the glitter, and then my tinted moisturizer covered up any remaining bits. Just for fun, I included a photo of the glitter that fell out during application. 😉

Even though I love me some shimmery, frosty eyeshadows, I do like more variety in finishes these days, even if it’s only a subtle difference in the end result. I kind of felt like this look was too frosty; maybe if the brow bone had a semi-matte or satin eyeshadow instead, it wouldn’t have been the case. As always, I deliberately tried to use only the eyeshadows found in the palette, but going forward, I just don’t think I can do that. I need a less garish highlighter (there are only two potential highlighters: White Rabbit, which is too glittery and white on me; and Drink Me, Eat Me, which can lean frosty). Even still, I ended up throwing on a little MAC Nylon to yellow-up the brow bone (in the full face photos), because the peachy champagne shade wasn’t working on my skin tone as a highlighter (at least not with these shades).

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Primer Potion as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. Using the 239, apply White Rabbit eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Wonderland eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Absolem eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Alice eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Lightly tap and brush White Rabbit eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Drink Me, Eat Me eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. (I also later added Nylon eyeshadow on the brow bone to make it look less stark on me.) Bring everything together by applying Flipside eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Lover blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Corail Passion lipstick first, and then layer Apricot Creme lipgloss for a complementing lip.

Regardless of the cons, I’m so jealous you own that palette. I’m a die-hard Wonderland fan and of the whole franchise and I have absolutely no way of getting this palette even if it wound up only being for collective purposes. Fall-out doesn’t really bother me that much but at least you made it work, lovely colors.

There’s always eBay… I think there are also some shipping services that would let you purchase and have them ship for you. I know there have been a few readers who mentioned these services (I don’t know much about them myself, sorry!), but maybe it’s worth looking into if you really would love this palette for your collection!

Sadly I have no way of ordering anything online and I have no Sephora near me. My ULTA said that they aren’t even getting this palette so I’m flat out of luck. 🙁

Oh my gosh, this is just a stunning look. The teal and green and the blending is ah-mazing. I wish I had your mad application skills! I love the soft, natural lips to balance it all out – very pretty! And it’s time to get my hands on some Illamasqua blush!

Alice/painkiller is such a pretty colour. I am on the fence with this palette, I think it is mostly the pop up packaging that is pulling me in. I have the U/d BOS Vol II which as 4 overlap shades already.

Christine, these looks are so helpful for me – we have very similar eyeshape (slightly hooded with not too much space on the lid or above the lid), and i always have a more exact image in my head of where i should place colours on my own eyes. 🙂 Some looks on other gurus are sometimes harder for me to achieve on myself. Thank you!

Do you perhaps know when this palette will come out in Europe? I live in the Netherlands, and I absolutely love this book of shadows.
It’s just so cute!
Or do you recommend any sites that I can order it from?

Wow, I love this look! But I have to say, Sin isn’t a great highlighter. I also find that UD don’t include good highlighters in their palettes (in fact what shades are good highlighters, I don’t even know if i have one?), but the colours are so pretty, and I do like shimmery eyeshadows, so don’t mind not having matte ones.

Oh, I agree. On me, it’s too pink to work well, but I think it’s just a little too metallic/frosty when paired with so many other frost/shimmer shades, you know? It has a tendency to look way too obvious, even from afar. Oddly enough, I thought it was OK in close-ups, but hated it from afar!

Hi Christine, Really pretty look:) I posted this ??? under the Palette post, but no response so I’ll try here, I was wondering how close Alice (painkiller) is to the UD Deluxe Shadow in Peace? As well as Underland (flash)is to Esctacy or Mayhem (BOS1)? Thanks in advance if your able to help out or anyone that is.

Super pretty! I wouldn’t have thought to use Maui Wowie with these other colors but it sure works. Love your signature greens and blues/teals. Will you be doing some other color choices (neutrals, pinks/purples) with this palette too? I’ve been frustrated with these because I hate doing my eyes before my face (I have serious dark circles so I have to use at least concealer or a bit of foundation before I do my eyes, and I just don’t like doing eyes on my face when it hasn’t been “cleaned up”), so I was just buffing the glitter off my cheeks with my 182. It actually worked pretty well! Still had a few sparkles here and there but nothing super noticeable.

Thanks, Daphne! 🙂 Surprisingly, antique-y golds do work well with teals and other jewel tones!

I think I always prefer to remove it with makeup remover because I don’t want glittery bits in my brush, LOL. I am always nervous they’ll get buried in there! (Totally weird… I know.)

You know, I thought of that, but I am so dang protective of my 182 because of its price – I wash it frequently brush out the glitter – so I think it will be okay. But I hear you on the paranoia!

You’ve got me thinking about trying Patina with some blues, now! 🙂 BTW, Mushroom from this palette + BB Pewter eyeshadow? Totally dreamy.

if it’s almost spring, ok in like 2 more months :), I would like to ask you (all of you), what you’re fav. nailcolors are (will be in spring)?

the look came out really pretty. incorporated with other shades the stuff in the palette could be really nice. I’m with you on the glitter fallout with Urban Decay eyeshadows. i’ve always been reluctant to buy them for that reason so i’m really excited for the new Stardust shades. Hopefully their claims of less glitter fallout turn out to be true.

Thanks so much! I like their smoother shades – very rich in pigment, smooth, and blendable. Any shade that puts “glitter” in the description is less stellar than the other shades!

Oh a very pretty look.

How do you get the urban decay 24/7 liners to stay on the waterline, they don’t last very long on me. The only eyeliner I’ve found that stays on is fluidline.

Thanks, Chloe! 🙂

Hmm, no technique – some people have more watery waterlines than others, so I imagine that might be it!

I may be late to the game, but what brand brushes do you use? I see the numbers and thought they were MAC or Sephora brand? BTW, beautiful look you created. I got a DuWop Peacock palette and Urban Decay Half Baked set (both on sale!) that I think I can use to create a similar look.

You look gorgeous! im so annoyed with myself for not getting this,i decided to wait a few days to see if i still wanted it and when i checked the urban decay site 2 days later they sold out =/

Even though I have most of these eyeshadows, this look made me just call sephora to buy one! that look is soooo pretty!! love it! i couldnt even restrain myself and wait one more day for it to be online at sephora 🙁 haha

wow! i really like the blush and lip combo… i would totally run out and buy all the products for them if my skintone was similar to yours! sadly the peach/coral tones have a tendency to look a bit strange on my face…:(
is the illamasqua blush a powder or a creme? i’ve only tried their creme blushes at this point…

Just curious, how close of a dupe is Aquadisiac? Cause I’m really dying for Painkiller and just saw that they don’t have it as a single eyeshadow. And BTW, I loooove this look!

Painkiller is it’s way more fun and put together sister. It’s a little bluer, much more pigmented, and way smoother. Painkiller is in the Show Pony palette, too, I believe…

I’d rather not buy a palette since they are a bit more than I can afford, so hopefully they will get Painkiller in single eyeshadows sometime soon. BTW, another way for getting rid of fallout…baby wipes.

Hey!! I love your look, it looks amazing you have some serious talent! Since I’m a huge MAC collector i have like like 6 pallets i dont wanna purchase the urban decay pallets. but i love that blue you used in the crease..is there a MAC dupe for that or a single eyeshadow i can buy from urban decay?

Christine I have to agree with you about the glittery mess! It was all over my cheeks too! I was also disappointed to see that there was really no good highlight color! THanks for the look though. Stunning!

The more I get into makeup, the less I find that I like Urban Decay. I bought a couple of their palletes to get started and everything of theirs is so glitter-bomb-y and fallout heavy. 🙁

The lip combo is gorgeous on you, though!
