Favorite Formulas

Below, you’ll find my favorite formulas from Marc Jacobs Beauty and up to four of the top-rated shades within each formula. I’m a long-time fan and user of the Highliner Gel Crayons, whether the original range, matte, or limited edition offerings that have come out!  It’s one of the longest-wearing eyeliner formulas I’ve come across, and I love that there’s such a large variety of colors (a must for me).

The Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer formula has a really smooth and comfortable wear with a nice range of shades and finishes to choose from. They’re easy to apply on-the-go, whether as a standalone color or added over a lipstick.  For those who love metallics and warm-toned shades, the newer Extravagance Eye-conic palette is lovely, and I’ve generally had good luck with this range of palettes.

Now on sale, the Air Blush was my all-time favorite blush formula (devastated that it’s discontinued), but there are still two shades available… so honorable mention.

It is supposed to have "maximum color and brilliance" and "shine like 30 coats of lacquer." The formula has a mint scent but not much flavor from what I could detect. While the brand's general description is "maximum color," they seem to modify that with individual shade descriptions as several shades are specifically described as "opaque" and a few are noted as "sheer" with the remainder having no specific coverage descriptor (as of April/May 2020). The formula is supposed to be a “gel-cream” that can be used on “the skin directly” or “added into” base products (like foundation or primer). It’s supposed to “build for the ultimate sheen.” That gel texture made it easy to spread without it sheering out immediately, but it also meant that one “pump” was far more product than one would need for spot highlighting (e.g. cheek bones, cupid’s bow, and so forth) and was more in line with what you might use to mix in with a base product. The formula is supposed to have “intense color payoff” with “12-hour longwear” with a “bold matte finish” that is supposed to be waterproof and “well-suited” for the waterline. The majority of the shades are very pigmented with mostly opaque to fully opaque coverage in a single pass, while the texture is creamy but dries down within ten to fifteen seconds. Read more...
