β€œThe Smooth Buffer is the Face One brush with a smaller ferrule and surface diameter. It offers the same functionality as Face One, with the same softness and movement in the bristles. The density and flexibility are what make this little buffer so versatile for daily use.” β€” Sonia G.⁣

I do not have the Face One brush for comparison. Is this brush stiff enough to work with powder foundations? I had a great Jane Iredale brush for powdered foundations, but it got old and the replacement is a far inferior product from reviews I have read. I layer powder foundation over tinted sunscreen so I’m not looking for a super dense brush for a full coverage look, just enough to buff powder foundation into areas over discolouration. Perhaps Face One is a better size. Any feedback from anyone using F1 would be appreciated. I’m using IT cosmetics blush brush for powder foundation atm.

Wednesday, for the days that I use tinted sunscreen and just a touch of face powder, I use the Chantecaille Buff and Blur Brush. It is synthetic and does a great job at picking up powder.

Hi Wednesday! I don’t wear foundation (powder or liquid), but I use the Face One brush every day with other powders – mainly Bare Minerals illuminating mineral veil that I put on first (not as a finishing powder). Face One is great for buffing powder onto the skin and I’ve been super happy with it. I tend to use a good amount of force/pressure by default (I’d have to explicitly think about it to use a softer touch). I find Face One to have a good balance between splaying bristles while still keeping its shape and general structural integrity well. It fits easily into regular-size powder containers, but possibly not as well in a mini-size (like if someone wanted to use it to pick up powder from only one product in the holiday Hourglass palettes). So that could be an aspect in which the smaller smooth buffer brush may work better. That said, I really love my Face One and how well it’s served me as a daily powder brush.

Thank you, Catherine for your detailed insights! I have signed up for notice when Face One becomes available again. I have decided the larger size is more appropriate for my use. I do not purchase the Holiday Hourglass compacts so a non-issue There. The smooth buffer looks to be similar size to some older MAC duo fibre brushes I own and find tedious due to their smaller size.

I have the Face One and have always felt it was too big, even though I don’t think I have a small face, so to speak. I use it for loose powder (La Mer) and pressed (Chantecaille Blur). I agree with Catherine that it’s great for buffing with use of good pressure. It also results in a light, natural finish. My only issue with the Face One is the size, so I did end up ordering the new, smaller one. Hopefully it works out.

Thank you, Carol Ann! Hmmm… I have such a difficult time β€˜seeing’ the size of brushes on-line. And even still, sometimes even with excellent photos, I do not know how the size will translate until I actually use it on my face. I am frequently surprised at the brushes which work very well for me; especially for face. I tend to use rather large brushes on the whole and I do not have a big face either. I’m so torn. Going to check and see if the smaller one is sold out. That could be the simple answer ?

The shortage of longer bristles and saikoho goat is getting worrisome. I hope that longer and denser, ultra-soft face brushes are not going to go extinct. I still definitely want to pick up the Master Face and Face One but Sonia has been unclear when those can come back in stock due to the problems. I hope they can encourage more breeding and keeping of the goats that produce those hairs, given increased international demand for Japanese makeup brushes.

Oh, good. Another fibre snob! To think that now clothing can be made of recycled coke bottles. And you thought Rayon was a problem. I agree with the recycling aspect, but recycle the natural fibres. Wool sweater? Critically endangered species. More breeding of saikoho goats and blue squirrels needed.

KJH, sheep are not an endangered species, and they are not harmed in any way when their wool is collected. They are sheared, and their wool grows back to be sheared again the next year. I live in a state where sheep are raised and sheared for making wool yarn. Wool is a wonderful renewable resource.

I’ve been on the waiting list for the Face One for a very long time, and will most likely wait for it to come back into stock instead of purchasing the Smooth Buffer. I love the Smooth Buffer’s tapered handle for storage purposes, but I had anticipated for it to be $10.00 to $15.00 less since the brush head is smaller. I think along the way I’ve heard the that blue color way is more labor intensive, but, if I’m going to invest, I’m going to spend $75.00 for the Face One instead of $70.00 for a smaller brush with a pretty, streamlined handle.

I wonder if I would have waited on purchasing my Chikuhodo face powder brush if I had known about this release earlier… Too late now I guessssss πŸ˜›
