Revlon ColorStay foundation, 2x Maybelline ColorSensational Vivid Lipcolor, Milani Baked Blush, L’Oreal Silkissime eyeliner (one shade), L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows (3-4), Maybelline Full ‘n’ Soft Mascara, Wet ‘n’ Wild Fergie Eyeshadow Primer. I think that would be a good start while maximizing the amount of products!

Dr. Jart BB Balm (smaller size), Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade, Revlon Photoready Pressed Powder, Wet N Wild Fergie Eye Primer, Benefit World Famous Easiest Neutrals Eye shadow Kit, Prestige Total Intensity Eye Liner, Milani Blush, NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick

Phoebe Avatar

Lorac Pro (the original), maybe the Eco Tools set of brushes, Maybelline Full & Soft waterproof, Sephora waterproof retractable eyeliner in black, Wet n Wild Fergie eyeshadow primer, Sephora CC cream (or something sheer and similar), a tinted drugstore lip balm/sheer lipstick like a Revlon lip butter

That should be roughly $100, I think…!

Bunga Avatar

I’d recommend Benefit or bh cosmetics face kit, Sonia Kashuk brush set, UD naked basic palette and Colour Pop lipsticks. And if you could stretch a little bit more, add NYX primer to the lot

Mariella Avatar

Depending on what they need (not everyone needs concealer, for example), I’d recommend the Urban Decay Naked palette (even though it’s pricey, newbie or not, I think everyone would really enjoy having and using that palette and someone new would really have lots of fun, good products to experiment with); for a cheaper alternative and if it’s still available, Maybelline’s Caffeine Rush little “5-pan”; Marcelle BB or CC cream with SPF and Rimmel Stay Matte powder or Coty Airspun Loose powder; Sephora Contour Eye Pencil (I think they might even cost less than the L’Oreal ones of which only THREE shades are available); a NYX blush; L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara. For an eyeshadow primer, I’d suggest one of the Maybelline Colour Tattoo shadows (matte or glittery, depending on what the person would like)

Astrild Avatar

Bourjois Healthy mix foundation, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, 2-3 NYX or ELF Studio Blushes, a Sleek Eyeshadow palette, Milani Eye primer, Kiko Eyebrow pencil, Max Factor False Lash effect mascara (European versión of Covergirl Lastblast), 2-3 Kiko glossy stylo lipsticks. If there’s some money left, I’d recommend a Zoeva brush..

A brush set from Elf, Coastal Scents or BH Cosmetics for starters. Then I’d recommend Revlon Nearly Naked/Colorstay or Maybelline Fit Me foundations, Wet n Wild eyeshadows, Milani lipsticks and blushes, NYX primers/setting sprays and NYX lip/eye liners. I think that’s a good start lol

Sonia Kashuk brush set
Almay or Ulta mascara
Smashbox mini size primer
L’Oreal True Match foundation or Hourglass Liquid Powder foundation or Garnier BB Cream
L’Oreal True Match blush or NARS blush
Inglot 2 pan eyeshadow palette or NARS eyeshadow duo or NARS single eyeshadow in Blondie
L’Oreal True Match powder

Heather Avatar

$15 — small Sonia Kashuk brush set (one powder brush, one blush brush, 2-3 shadow brushes)
$10 — Revlon ColorStay foundation
$10 — NYX HD finishing powder
$10 — L’oreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner–even comes with a brush!
$8 — a Maybelline mascara (all pretty great, but Volume Express: The Falsies, Pumped Up, or Turbo Boost have a lot of oomph; Full’n’Soft and Lash Discovery are less dramatic)
$35 — Milani baked blush ($5) + Urban Decay Naked Basics ($30) OR Clinique Color Pop Blush ($20) + 3 L’oreal Infallible Shadows ($15)
$6 — Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain
$6 — Revlon Lip Butter
—-
$100 🙂 And if any of the drugstore products are on sale (which they usually are, in my experience) I’d throw in a Vaseline Lip Therapy Pot and an ELF eye primer.

Erin Avatar

I’d suggest a nice foundation, it’s all dependent on your skin and how finicky it is. I’d get a few Revlon lippies, a L’Oreal mascara, a Revlon cream blush, and either a few L’Oreal Infallible shadows or a Naked palette if you were able to score an appropriate foundation from the drugstore. Milani and NYX might offer some additional lip and blush items that are nice. RT and EcoTools brushes.

MAC Satin Taupe ES and whichever Eye Kohl Pencil they like most; whichever UD Revolution lipstick is closest to their MLBB; Revlon ColourStay base; any Rimmel mascara; and the rest on NYX cheek and bronzer colors and a couple cheap CVS eye brushes or some Qtips.

Karen Avatar

I would say 2 NYX Love in Paris Eye Shadow Palettes (Love In Paris has a variety of shades and only for $10), 1 NYX Dream Catcher Palette (a good and affordable neutral palette), 2 NYX Soft Matte lip creams, 1 Rimmel London ScandalEyes eyeliner pencil, 1 L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara, 1 Maybelline Master Hi-Light Powdered blush, 2 Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick-Kate Moss collection and 1 Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion (I don’t skimp on the eyes, LOL!).

Sarita Avatar

I would say, “Call the nearest Fashion Fair counter and book an appointment for a facial and a full face make over.” That’s what my Mom did for me. I’ve always had a love for make-up. Now, of course, I’ve branched out to Mary Kay, MAC, Clinique, etc.

Judy H. Avatar

Not knowing what one would care to spend, I would suggest a very good foundation, a good lipstick, a long lasting neutral blush and a tube of Maybelline Full n’ Soft mascara.

WildDove Avatar

MAC Face & Body foundation,
Inglot cream concealer,
Milani baked bronzer,
NYX blush,
Lipstick: Revlon, NYX, Maybelline, or Covergirl lipstick,
Clinique cream eyeliner.
L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluinous mascara,
WnW Comfort Zone e/s palette or Maybelline Nudes e/s palette or Makeup Academy e/s palette,

Genevieve Avatar

My suggestions would be:
Rimmel foundation
Natio primer ($14)
A drugstore mascara – whatever is on sale from Maybelline, Rimmel, L’Oreal
Milani blush and lipstick
An eyeshadow palette of the colours that you would mostly use in your working week – if it is neutrals – Naked 1 or 2 (not both) OR the original Lorac Pro palette – it should be cheaper now, if it is greys – Estee Lauder Film Noir or Dior’s Gris Gris
If you like extra colours L’Oreal’s Infallible eyeshadows in the desired colour.
OR a Tarina Tarantino quad.

Donna Avatar

Depending on age and skin condition, I would recommend a good primer (Laura Mercier), brush set (Sephora Pro) and Urban Naked Palette. The rest would be details! If there was any money left, I’d recommend the Kat Von D Trooper eyeliner. .

Bonnie Avatar

MAC eyeshadow brush 239 or 242 (25) Need a good brush for shadow application
Dr Jart Black BB, small (18) Light coverage and easy to work with
Lorac Real Life to Red Carpet set (42) -or- similar set with neutral basics

Bahaha, tell them to find a friend in the US, LOL! Wouldn’t get you much here…

Still! In NZ: a Revlon lipstick, some good pressed powder from a suitable drugstore brand (I think Revlon, Maybelline or Shiseido probably all have something decent), a Collection concealer (only if they’re ligher in skintone, sadly) and a good mascara from one of the same brands (depending on preference). Maybe a Manicare eyelash curler?

If they were in the US: eyelash curlers (any suitable brand), Urban Decay liner in Demolition or Zero ( or a good dual ended pencil if one’s on offer), a drugstore pressed powder, Covergirl/Maybelline mascara, and any lipstick that caught their fancy from Chanel Rouge Coco, Guerlain Rouge Automatique, Revlon Super Lustrous or Urban Decay Revolution. Clearly I splurge on the lipstick 😉 I’m not 100% sure all possible combinations here would be at or under $100, but if I had to sacrifice to get a good lipstick, that’s what I’d do!

Kat Avatar

I’d recommend NYX or MUG blush, a few NYX lip butters, Revlon lipsticks, Milani eyeliners maybe, Maybelline the Falsies or Colossal mascara. Most importantly, I’d tell them to splurge on Urban Decay Primer Potion, and save as much as possible for brushes.

If someone is new to makeup, it is safe to assume they’ve not needed it and are curious to play. On that estimate of proximity in this fictitious portrayal, I’d recommend the following:
Budget: $100
1. The face is probably nearly great condition so it shouldn’t need primer or foundation yet, perhaps later down the road, let’s stick to keeping skin clear and beginning the makeup with a concealer that do double duty for face discoloration, if any. A safe one which rarely is held responsible for breakouts and is sensitive skin sage while being terribly effective and works as an eye base for eyeshadow and neutralizing eye/lids. The concealer: Lancome Effernaces. It’s also very water and crease resistant!
– Spent: $30.50
2. Most people feel they have oil breakthrough and a safe for skin gentle blotting powder should be all this person needs as they aren’t doing a full face and the blotting powder can be applied everywhere if they’d like. The powder: Clinique Stay a Matte Sheer Pressed Powder, easy to take on the go as well! $24 so add that to 30.50
– Spent: $54.50
3. Keeping skin hydrated, protecting eyes and sun exposure is something I’m sure the person is already doing, but now they want to try makeup so the $100 is safe from skincare. Just in case, perhaps an $18 bottle of Hourglass Veil Primer, which makes skin look pretty, mildly hydrating and perfecting, helpful for any products going on,
– Spent: $62.50
4. Mascara doubles to groom brows gently, which brows should have to be gone to town on anyway, so a lasting flexible mascara that also makes a fluffy decent lash effect, because lashes make and finish a look: mascara. My recommendation: Covergirl Lash Blast Length. $6.00 It’s very lash friendly, bendable if you like to curve your lashes with fingers, and natural looking while adding enough to begin with a first mascara.
– add $6 Spent: $68.50
5. A great blush can be used to add dimension to the eyes as well as a great flush and also as highlight! When starting out, a safe choice is always a simple “matte” blush with outstanding consistency and amazing results on all skin types and that choice would be NYX blush in peace or mauve, they could choose which one is closest to their flush. Each cost $5. Add $5
– Spent: $73.50
6. A highlighter can bring dimension and add a beautiful glow in multiple ways, face, eyes, lips. Since we are starting, I’d suggest a simple one for all over use and make sure the pigment is well to highlight their inner eyes and lids. It’s all about simplicity when starting to get used to the face, so I would recommend something I’ve used often for many reasons and never had a problem with: Physicians Formula Powder Palette Multi-Colored Face Powder in “Highlighter.” Just beautiful. And, it comes with a brush that can be used for both the blush and highlighter! (Start small) $10 is the most I’ve paid for this, so add $10..
– Spent: $83.50
7. Defining eyes or just beginning by making their lash lines stand out, I highly recommend a matte brown eye pencil. It works universally and can also add to brows if they do choose. I recommend a trusty favorite that I used when I began and long after: Covergirl Perfect Blend EyePencil in the shade Black/Brown which is a perfect neutral espresso, not screaming eyeliner, but teaching the robes delicately and it has its own smudged which is soft and a bonus for any eye smudging! Cost: $5
Add $5
– Spent: $88.50
8. A white pencil eyeliner that is soft and sensitive to eyes I find a necessity when exploring highs and lows of eye shape and contour as well, the white liner can work above the brown to pop the eyes, below eyes to brighten. Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal due to its sofness and quite great quality compared to the .99 cent one I began with, would be fine but due to them just starting, Instead of paying $4, Id recommend d the $.99 Wet N Wild Color pencil. Tried and true, they can grab for better formulas as they grow. 🙂
Add $0.99
– Spent: $89.49
9. A healthy MLBB is a must when beginning, and will balance the look of defined eyes, flushed cheeks, and a nice glow. For this I recommend a product that won’t tear up lips and remains easy to apply and is quite close to the natural color with perhaps just a pinch of change to make it fun. A great formulation and color I recommend: Clinique Color Surge Buttershine Lipstick in Pink Goddess! This works with every skin tone and even very sensitive lips. It will allow the experience of color and extra shine with moisture, a place to begin looking at themselves and seeing a natural face illuminated by the face’s own flush of colors and glowing with a universal highlighter, both used on eyes is plenty for one to imagine where to begin with color! Some, like I, grabbed a cheap Violette/periwinkle/white/ 8 shade palette. Maybe they don’t want or need nudes. The important thing is to explore their face as it is, naturally. (Slight enhancement and room for creativity with handful of supplies) cost: $16
Add $16
– Spent: $95.49 😀
10. As a bonus, a Wet n Wild Color Collection Eyeshadow set in either Petal Pusher or Comfort Zone, their choice. These apply well and are a great blend able option to play with when beginning! Cost: $5
Add $4 only! 😀 these have their own applicators snd I found learning with these applicators build appreciation for brushes and teaches one how to harness the use of fingers and other things lying around! It’s just a beginning…!
Total spent: $99.49 And there are always sales so I’m sure it will be under $100! I’d toss in an elf gloss to add esta dimension and experiment with gloss!
Ta-da! Grab minies, freebies, samples, coupons, a list of places to shop, promo codes, a list of places to go to in order to help them save money, the Temptalia website link, and lists of suggestions branching off multiple choices in what they feel they may want to take their makeup collection to. And a reminder that one need not apply every type of makeup to be beautiful, only the very smallest amount to maximize your beauty. Skin care is always first and if taken well care of, you’ll never need foundation and most products! Soon, tweezers to show how to keep maximum hair and natural shape with a clean line and not needing layers of brow makeup. Mascara truly adds enough definition and keeps them in place, groomed. Light handed, of course. Revlon tweezers are a couple dollars and work fairly well. I’m sure there’s room for a pair with $100. Safety First was the direction I took this $100 for somebody that looks just fine and wants to try makeup! 😀

As well, the convealer is a given for dark circles. It’s an easy one to learn with! 🙂 And if they don’t find their face bright enough, the physicians formula highlighter looks beautiful everyehere, matte areas with blot piwder! 😀 Please excuse my autocorrect typos and I hope I made sense! 😀

Great question!! There’s so much!!
-maybelline fit me concealer
-Revlon color stay foundation
-Benefit Pore-fessional (travel size!)
-Milani nude creme lipstick
-Coastal Scents brushes
-Lorac Pro 1
-Nyx butter glosses (I know I was scared of lipsticks when I first started wearing makeup so the butter glosses are a nice ease into color on your lips!)
-I’m probably already at $100 but Milani Baked blushes, wet n wild Comfort Zone palette and blushes.

Splurge-Hourglass Ambient lighting powder!!

If they were younger I’d recommend the cover girl tinted moisturizer, a 6 pan wet and wild palette, a real techniques brush set, loreal liquid eyeliner, Milani pencil eyeliner, wet and wild blush in pearlescent pink, and a few lip glosses
