I got this in the mail yesterday and am pleasantly surprised with some of the shades! Acid Rain, Gash, Swallow and Misdemeanor are gorgeous 🙂 I’m really surprised they haven’t advertised this one much.
Sigh…UD how I love thee, but I will be skippity skipping this palette for now. With all the other UD palettes and shadows I have, I just do not need this baby. 😉
I love this some of the old deluxe shadows made it into this palette. Again this is something that is US only so i can’t get it but I’m feeling the nostalgia for the shades i never owned but recognize.
Is it really only for US? Noooooo! I wanted it (in UK). Was hoping it would eventually appear on their UK website, like Vice 4 did.
I would say keep an eye on selfridges as they did get the vice limited in last year. But if that fails and it’s something you despiratly want sights like shipitto help us Brits get stuff that we struggle to get our hands on. But they can be a little pricey.
I have a feeling this may need a little help. But, I like it enough to add primer. Fingers crossed this does well because the one I ordered from Ulta’s pre-sale just arrived yesterday!
I just got this in the mail yesterday and I love it! A few were duds but on the whole, impressive effort.
Yes, so glad to see swatches!! I snagged mine during the Ulta Platinum launch, and have been stalking, oh I mean tracking, yes tracking it, suppose to come Saturday, can’t wait!!The blues look like they need some primer to help them out, but the other colors look good to awesome!! I especially love some of the more unique colors (Gash, Swallow, Acid Rain, Misdemeanor, Acid Rain). And this kit has a great of mattes/shimmers and neutrals/colors. And it gives me all the colors I need (browns, green, yellow pinks) to get that Dior Rose Glowing Gardens look, except the pigment will be on steroids LOL. Oh, and I missed out on all of the original discontinued colors (wasn’t into shadows back then), so this is perfect!!!
So beautiful! I hope I’ll be able to get it on the 24th. Ulta canceled my order because is was already sold out when I ordered it 🙁
That looks so good! I haven’t been tempted by any of the vice palettes previously but when I saw previews of this one I knew i had to have it. Now I can’t wait for your full review!
Mine arrived yesterday and I am absolutely loving it so far. So much better than Vice 3 for me! My first impressions were super positive. Everything swatched well without primer and even normally gritty shades like Midnight Cowboy and Oil Slick are smooth and buttery here. Yesterday I wore UV-B on the lid, Roadstripe on inner corners, Freakshow in the crease, and 501 as liner and on the outer V and it wore excellently. The mattes are super smooth and lovely. I even liked the brush this time!
Thanks for the review Celia!! I also grabbed this, but haven’t played with it yet, and I was a bit worried from Christine’s swatches…some shades look a little rough. It’s good to hear you like it! Gives me hope! 🙂 oh and thanks for the eye look idea!
Aw, thanks for the kind words, Bonnie! 🙂 And anytime for the eye look ideas 😉 I’ve already written out a ton of combo possibilities for this one. When Christine reviews it I’ll post more in-depth thoughts and some more looks.
I think once you start playing with it you’ll definitely find things to love. The more I play the more I’ve found. It’s always a good sign when you keep pulling the palette back out and just looking at it for a while haha. Thankfully, Christine swatches without primer as she should to give us the best idea of what we’re getting. And definitely, there are some shades here that need to be built up like Acid Rain and UV-B. But they also layer extraordinarily well. When you play with it, I highly recommend playing with some swatch combos on your hand/wrist to see how some of the more layering-type shades work with other more opaque ones. I was able to build each of those to desired opacity without problem and over primer they definitely pop more of course.
I’m actually really appreciating how those shades layer. I do wish Acid Rain had a bit more pigment just because the color is so cool and it does layer up! But choosing how much its built has been super fun so far and made for interesting looks (like I wanted to pop the color more when I did an Acid Rain on inner lid+Mildew on outer lid simple look and I added just a hint of Goldmine and it was suddenly complete glamour). UV-B looks amazing as a sheer wash and I found building it to be a-okay 🙂 Especially when you pair it with other blues and purples. Or even add Roadstripe over top to up the duochrome even further.
And seriously, I can’t believe how great the cult shades like Midnight Cowboy/Smog/Twice Baked/etc are formulated here. I’ve never had an easier time blending them, personally. So definitely there are some aspects of the palette that require a little working with and figuring out, but it’s all fun to do and results are interesting and unique. The mattes being so smooth make for easy neutral looks as well. Personally I haven’t had this much fun with a palette from UD since Electric so I hope you find some things you love in it!
Awesome!!! I can’t wait to try Acid rain+ mildew + gold mine now!!! Sounds gorgeous. And definitely Roadstripe over UVB. Sometimes I struggle with coming up with unusual combos that work so I really love your suggestions! I will definitely have fun playing with shade swatches together on my arm first like you suggested. Love hearing your thoughts, thank you Celia!
So glad your first impressions were that good!
Gash! Mildew! Smog! Moonflower! So many pretty shades!
I ordered this the other day with my Ulta points, so it was almost free (I think I paid $6 out of pocket). Anyway, it’s got so many old-school UD colors I used to own and some that I still have, but they are all in the old UD formula. It’s supposed to arrive today!
Love a bit of nostalgia. Maybe it’s a go, if some of my oldies are approaching pan, though I’m aging out of Vice and moving into En Taupe. UD has had a great run. Found them edgier at the outset, and pretty mainstream now. But they WERE the first brand to dare to go there. I like the concept of anniversary palettes and honoring a brand’s history. Thanks for the years, UD.
Well put!
Yes, I know that my initial reaction to this was “meh”, but you know what? I think I really like it a lot! It seems to have some similar shades to some within that awful Sephora palette, but much nicer in terms of smoothness and color saturation. Although I do believe there are several shades here that need primer to pop.
I was thinking the exact same thing! After looking at those horrible swatches of that Sephora Watercolor Panetone palette, I got a headache just thinking about the amount of primer/NYX Milk/sponge applicators needed to make those shadows work. I was like, maybe I can just take some of the lighter colors (greens, blues, pinks, yellows) in UD Reloaded and sheer them down for spring look!
This is definitely the most interesting Vice palette to step back and look at, and I totally see where they’re going with marketing, jumping on the millenial throwback train.
I only hope it’ll be around for a few more weeks because I just cannot afford it right now!
Oh wow, this is stunning. Might have to order it. Crazy how different Suspend looks compared to the pan!
I was thinking the same thing about Suspend and a few other colors!
This palette looks gorgeous!
I want this – but I hate how the colors are arranged in this palette. It just makes it unappealing as imo, the order of the shadows is garish.
I didn’t like it/want it until I saw the actual swatches.
Weirdly I wasn’t feeling the layout at all online but when I saw it in-person my mind completely changed. When you’re looking at it IRL the column options and various quads jump out much more easily. The colors look much more coherent in front of me than online somehow.
I think I’ll order it. The ULTA points bonus will expire before it lands in stores to see in person – but the swatches look awesome. Thanks for the feedback. 🙂
I’m really having so much fun with it! I know it’s one I’ll enjoy and include in regular rotation since I keep pulling it out and looking at it again and again. Always a good sign. The combo inspiration keeps coming so I hope you have the same experience if you decide to go for it 🙂 There so a ton of cool layering and mixing possibilities as well since they’re super smooth.
I ordered it today! Fingers crossed that it’s amazing! 😀 I’m so glad you’re having fun with it.
Fingers crossed for you, Cat! Hope you enjoy it!
So I got it the other day…swatched it…pans in it were loose. It was just so meh I returned it. The outer packaging was so so gorgeous…that’s really the only reason I wanted to keep it. 🙁
Ugh! Loose pans are so frustrating. UD’s had that problem for years now! Past time for them to fix it. I’m lucky it’s only happened to me once (my Naked 3 pans are shaky).
Wow, I may just get this palette, I love UD because their colors are so pigmented, I’m so mad that I didn’t get the limited edition spectrum palette released over the holidays.
Acid rain was my favorite shadow in my first UD face case I bought 2000ish. The moment I saw that was in this palette, along with asphyxia… it must be mine.
I had a little buyer’s remorse after ordering this during the Ulta Platinum pre-sale, but that was absolved when I saw Goldmine and Swallow IRL. I was also pleasantly surprised by the neutral mattes!
wow…at first i wasn’t impressed by the colors and online its so hard to tell what the true colors are but these are nice! only bad thing is its Ulta exclusive… so i guess i wont be getting it.
I just bought the Vice 4 pallette last week. I am not sure if I should get this one.
This is really a gorgeous collection of colourful shades that would suit everyone. Dare I say that some of the mattes look a little dry?
However it’s a shame when a collection or palette is limited exclusively to one store that does not ship outside the US. I really dislike it when that happens. (I am still after my bareMinerals Soft and Smoky eye palette, which is exclusively at QVC.)
Could one of you that already has this flip it over and check to see if there are warnings about any shades not being able to use certain shades on the eye area? I think Gash might be one that had the warning – I want this pallette, a lot, but I have sensitive eyes. TIA!
It’s labeled as an eyeshadow palette, unlike the Electric palette, which was labeled as pressed pigments. Also, I’m not finding any warnings of any sort on the box or palette. Gash was also sold as an eyeshadow single, as well as in other palettes, so I’m quite certain it’s safe. Carmine is typically what causes sensitivity to reds in eye products, but it isn’t in Gash. HTH!
Thanks so much for letting me know! I am going to try and get one when I am “allowed to” by Ulta. The shades look great and I have been hunting for a palette with all the color families in it.
I really wish this weren’t Ulta exclusive, because their website no longer works for me (and many people). I’ll have to try to get it in-store on the 24th. There are so many shades I don’t have, so I really, really want this. Here’s hoping.
Have you tried calling CS to explain the issue? They may have some suggestions for getting the site running, or perhaps help put the order through for you?
I’ve called and written them multiple times. I get the same answer every time, which is basically, “Sorry; we don’t know what’s going on. Can’t help you.” I tweeted them, and got told to write CS.
I googled the issue, and a lot of people are out there having the same problem, and no one has gotten a helpful answer.
I’ve tried two different computers, three different browsers, and six different forms of payment. No matter what I do, it tells me that my payment can’t be processed.
Omg that’s crazy!!! I’m sorry Rachel! I’d be soooo pissed!
If you need someone to snag it for you and ship I could. I’m pretty sure we are in a few beauty groups together on fb
Amy, that is so sweet of you to offer. It’s OK. I’ll show up to store first thing on the 24th. I should be able to snag one. (Knock on wood. 🙂 )
Dumb question perhaps – but did you dump the cache and cookies from your browser? I would hope their CS would have recommended that. I’ve encountered issues like that on other web pages where doing that cleared up the page issues I was having. So sorry you’re having trouble. 🙁
That’s not dumb at all, and I appreciate your help. I did clear the cache and cookies, both from the browser and using CCleaner. I also turned off pop-up blocker and tried turning off all my security programs and the firewall. No dice.
Ugh. I’m so sorry. 🙁 That’s ridiculous…and I can’t believe their CS is being so unhelpful. You’re trying to give them money!
I ordered this on impulse (4 greens! 2 blues! purples!) and it came Tuesday. So far, performance on the shades has been really mixed. For me, Anonymous, Laced, and Suspend have performed beautifully. Acid Rain I had to really pack on to get the intensity I like. Mildew just never got there no matter what I did (it performed poorly compared to the single). UV-B is probably my favorite color, and it is really pretty on, but I can’t get anywhere near the intensity on my lid that I got in the swatch (and I always use primer or a cream shadow base because of hooded/oily lids). Road Stripe is working well to highlight my inner corner, but I’m not sure it would work as an opaque white. I have higher hopes for Shallow and Misdemeanor because I slapped them on (over NARS Eye Paint in Porto Venere, which is all I had time to put on that morning) on Tuesday after I got to work, using the included brush (the box from ULTA was at my mailbox on my way out the door), and seemed to get pretty good results in spite of really haphazard application. Of course blues and greens seem to be more challenging to formulate than pinks and golds and browns, so there is hope for a lot of the other shimmery shades. I actually was surprised at how good Anonymous is, it went on really smooth and opaque for me. Not at all dry and dusty and easily-sheering-out (as UV-B and Mildew seemed to me).
Uh-oh for Acid Rain, UV-B and Mildew, all three of which have had my hopes up for this palette. I hope and pray that when it’s in-store at Ulta, it still appeals to me. So many old school shades here that I missed out on!
I don’t find Acid Rain to lack pigment, it’s just a lighter shade. Mildew is sooo creamy, and true-to-pan. As for UV-B, I just applied it to my lid, no primer/base, and it went on smoothly & evenly, not patchy at all. I also find using different brushes can affect the a shadow applies; I used the brush that came with the palette.
As for Roadstripe, in my experience with this type of shade (I have a Max Factor quad, NARS Iceland, MAC Vellum, a Smashbox “transformer” quad), is that it’s meant for layering or highlighting. If you want opacity, try a white base.
Amy is correct that Roadstripe is meant as a duochrome transformer shade. It’s actually a white-base with lilac and blue duochrome so its main effect is to cool down and add a multitonal aspect to anything underneath it. Try layering it over some of the darker shades and you’ll get a pretty bluish-lavender color. It’s like MUFE Crystalline Turqoise or Sugarpill Lumi, etc. At its most opaque it will be a soft blue-lavender. Anonymous will be the closest to layering to an opaque off-white. I’m sorry your shades were dry and dusty! Mine were super smooth 🙁 I hope you find more things to do with it that you like!
I’m really glad to hear that others are having better luck than I’ve had so far — I’ll experiment some more, with different primers/bases and different brushes. Because I really do love the colors 🙂
Can someone send this to me please! Its beautiful, love Roadstripe best and UV-b, Hot Pants, Asphyxia and Suspend
Sometimes it feels like companies *enjoy* disappointing Canadians. 🙁 *stares at swatches longingly*
I can relate, only in regards to music… Long before the Internet, we Americans had to rely on ordering CDs through venues such as Virgin Megastore, pay higher retail prices, plus shipping fees/import fees, and still wait several weeks. Many of what I ordered was from England, but were readily available in Canada. Plus, you Canadians still have access to brands we don’t, and have had Canadian exclusives. There is still the option of third-party shipping, eBay, etc… (not too different from what I went through for music, LOL!).
Yeah, this will be a skip for me. I wish I’d been able to get Spectrum!
It’s official, I will definitely get this. :3
i’ve never been that attracted to a Vice palette UNTIL NOW.
Oh, wow! There are so many great colors here. I’m impressed!
???? heartbreaking that this is not available in Canada. There are some really lovely shades I would love to get my hands on….Gash, misdemeanor, uv-b, freak show….just to name a few. Can someone send me this pleeeeeeease???? Lol
Not sure if I should get this one. I’ll wait for your full review to decide.
I NEED THIS
I don’t know why I’m even looking at the swatches, since it’s an Ulta exclusive. Otherwise I’d be interested.
Oooh, very pretty, though I think I’m going to have to pass on this one. Some of these shades I have in other UD palettes, or some are very similar to other ones I already have. Though I love Gash-hope UD releases that as a single shadow one day. Also a bit reluctant because when they did the LTD last year, it was weird, because it sold out in like, a few seconds when it was released, then was gone for awhile, then came back, & was heavily discounted.
Wow, I feel like each Vice palette has less and less colors that interest me. My faves from this:
Suspend
Laced
Misdemeanor
Gash
Anyway, it’s cool to see older colors coming back for a limited release. And to see some of the gritter names used.
I think you have to have been born before 1985 to really understand how wonderful this palette is. For makeup nerds over thirty, this is nostalgia wrapped up in an awesome 90’s-era package. Urban Decay was the ultimate grunge brand, black and blue lipsticks, controversial shade names, industrial packaging and major street cred if you were a cool kid who listened to Smashing Pumpkins and shopped from the Delia’s catalog. I 100% guarantee other boys and girls like me are definitely feeling this product something serious!!!!
Noticed that the color said Shallow, not Swallow. Swallow wouldve been strange… Then again they do have a green color called Kush.
