I’m happily surprised with the color payoff of some of these shades! Still, I’ll probably wait until it goes on sale something tells me not to invest a lot of money on Sephora brand eyeshadows. Hopefully it will still be available then 🙂

welp!! the palette is as blah as I expected lol. BRING BACK MARSALA PALETTE!!! I’m perfectly content with skipping this pantone collection this year 🙂 it’ll surely go on sale I forsee!

LOL I’m right there with you! Sephora should just bring back the entire Marsala collection. It was so beautiful and I wanted almost everything. I’m not here for this collection at all. It’s meh

The eyeshadow palette looks better than I expected. The lipglosses look pretty dismal, but I was expecting that. I have dupes for the lipsticks, so I’m going to pass. I like the blue on it’s own much better than the white-based pale pink, but they both would make good mixers.

Oh boy! Those glosses are even more abysmal than that god-awful watercolor set from last year! ?
The lipsticks look very difficult for 99.9% of the population to wear. And then there’s the half great, half wretched eyeshadow palette that has some very 60’s-70’s colors! ???

I’m so disappointed that the lipglosses aren’t more opaque! I’m also not particularly impressed by either of the lipsticks, they look so light that it’s hard to believe they could compliment anyone’s skintone. I was hoping the lipsticks would look more like Rose and Earl Gray from the Nyx lipsticks. Ah well. The palette looks like a mixed bag and I’m not entirely sure about how those colors are organized. It would have been cool if they arranged them in rainbow order or something cool like that!

Me too! I feel like they really didn’t do the 2 colors of the year justice! What about a pale pink gloss with blue shimmer? A light blue eyeshadow with pink sparkles? Duochrome nail lacquers that shift between the 2 shades? This collection is as blend as you can make pastels be…

My thoughts exactly! A pastel highlighter, blush, or even nail color would be the easiest for people to wear, and they didn’t do any of that. What were they thinking??? Instead they come out with un-wearable lipsticks, clear glosses, and a mixed bag of shadows. C’mon Sephora, if you’re going to make pastels the Panetone colors of they year, at least do them well !

*The lip glosses look horrible, like clear Vaseline on the lips, might be worse than the BITE Watercolor set from last year. The lipsticks look meh, can’t pull off those weird pastel colors, maybe mix with another lipstick???? I LOVE the unique colors in the shadow palette, including the pastels, but the overall quality doesn’t look great, will need an NYX Milk Pencil for sure to make the pastels work. My oily lids will eat thinner, sheerer shadows for breakfast, even with primer. So sad, but think this whole collection will be a skip for me 🙁
*BTW, Laura Mercier is coming out with a “Paris After the Rain” palette, I wonder if it’s going to be any better than their horrible Watercolors Mist palette from last year. If I see it in store, I will swatch and let you know

The satiny mattes look better than expected. The shimmers don’t really have the same degree of saturation, which can make blending odd. All in all, it looks as if it will get at least a B… But maybe only plays well with primer. It is muted and colorful, which is the direction I am going. ‘Fraid I’m condemning this as an old lady palette. But it should do well with that set. My set, little as my attitude runs that way. Gave up Vice & the like this year. Wearing this, one would not get any ‘act your age’ looks. This is an odd place to come to, for a m/u addict. En Taupe and this. I guess I’m moving towards greater stealth…..I can pretend it’s refinement. Getting old is not for wimps.

KJH, I’ll turn 60 this year, and no way am I giving up my bright colors! (or turning into a little old lady, for that matter). Some fun blogs to take a look at are Advanced Style, Accidental Icon, Senior Style Bible, and That’s Not My Age. My own style is more casual, but it’s fun to see the different things that people do. Some of the bolder looks I do get me the most compliments. People who are critical are frequently envious…

Thanks for the recs, Fran! I have a few more years to go before I’m a senior, but it’s nice to know that there are women like you still rockin’ the bright colors! I hope I can keep up the tradition 🙂

It seems to me that women in their 80s and 90s truly don’t care what other people think any more, and just dress/apply makeup to make themselves happy, and I think that’s great 🙂

What I actually find to be less flattering on myself/harder to pull off in a way that I like are super-matte, super-pale, and uber-neutral/beige looks. It can be done, but maybe not all at once (of course, there probably aren’t all that many people of any age who look great in a super-matte, -pale , -beige look, outside of editorial work, lol).

I was checking out the websites, and loving the pictures. The Accidental Icon blog is so chic and way cooler looking than I’ll ever be. The other blogs had great pics — the lady with the pink fuzzy vest and T-shirt that said, “Old is the new black,” and one wear the lady had pink hair and a leopard print suit. They were fabulous.

My palette is on its way, so excited! This collection really made me happy. I know that a lot of people despise it, but I’m excited to have these colors in my collection!
I’m also excited to spot that Chinois reminds me a lot of Mandchoure out of the NARSissist eye palette, which I’ve been wanting but can’t justify the price of an entire palette for one color, lol. They don’t look like exact dupes- the Pantone color looks a lot more green, but a Sephora makeup artist once put Mandchoure over a black base on me and the color was s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g. And I haven’t been able to find anything like it since.

The eyeshadow palette actually swatches better than I expected. The lippies, not so much. I’m really surprised they didn’t make nail lacquers with the two colors of the year, that’s where a pale pink and baby blue would be the easiest to pull off imo!

I’m so over this “color of the year” thing. These pastels are nearly unwearable. I’ll buy makeup in colors that suit me, thanks.

How beautiful is that mushroom eyeshadow shade? And that chinois green is just as pretty as it is unique. I get it, pastels aren’t for everyone and there’s a reason why because it’s hard to pull off, but this is a must have for me just because of the uniqueness of it. There aren’t many pastel palettes out there. I’ve heard good things about this palette so far especially since there are a lot of matte AND a lot of pastels. I mean pastel mattes are probably the trickiest to get right and people are saying the formulation is pretty decent. It’s a breath of fresh air compared the legions of neutral eyeshadow palettes. It makes me happy and makes me think of spring!

The eyeshadows seem very pretty to me. They don’t look very pigmented, but I like quite a few colors, and a good eye primer would help. That Chinois Green color doesn’t look like anything I have!

I’m really glad I didn’t just order all this up as soon as it came out (like I wanted to!) because the glosses and Rose quartz lippie are truly awful, serenity is just ok looking (plus I have the Nyx macaron dupes) and the eyeshadow palette is a mixed bag. I’m guessing a B-.

Oh no – many of the matt shades seem very dry and patchy and those lip glosses are awful. I think this is a hastily put together set. Lots of shades in the palette that many could not wear. An easy pass for me.

It’s very wearable! I’m wearing Honeydew, Cascade, and Linden Green today (blended lightly with Rose Quartz) and my husband exclaimed how awesome my eyes looked! They do need a white sticky base though, but they’re great otherwise!

The eye shadows swatched better than I thought they would, though the palette doesn’t interest me. The lip glosses look terrible, and the lipsticks aren’t my cup of tea.

I’m still happy about the palette! Sure, the quality could be better, but the color selection is fresh and exciting to me. It might be hard to wear a color combo using only the palette, but I think they’d make great highlights and pops of color to a more neutral look.

the eyeshadows swatched better than expected tbh, but some of them look patchy and … dry. the glosses are a tragedy. the lipsticks don’t look good either although i appreciate the effort of bringing ‘inusual’ lip shades but the collection still has a lack of imagination. i’ll wait for your reviews!

I’m not really interested in them, but I just don’t understand why no one can bother to read the info on the “lipsticks”. They’re not just straight lipsticks meant to be worn on their own. They are meant to me layered and mixed with other lip products. When I first saw them I’d hoped for them to be something different, but once I actually read the description I’m not at all surprised at how they look. They’re not meant to be worn straight.

I’m not buying the glosses cause I never do, but I’m very much interested in the eyeshadows. I’ll hold out for the reviews because I’m sure it’ll still be around. In fact I’m sure like all previous Pantone palettes it’ll go on sale at some point. I don’t need it this second, I’m content to wait. The colors look nice, and I’m quite pale. Assuming this will work with my cool toned skin (and I think it will) I’ll probably buy.

I didn’t think I’d find anything good to say about anything in the colour of the year edition, however the palette is a lot better looking than I thought it would be. Chinois green is fantastic, I really want it. It along with a few of the other colours aren’t like anything I have in my stash.
I think maybe this would be quite good, with the help of Milk, unless you have really, really light skin on your lids.
The glosses are really meh, for me. Maybe they might work as toppers. The lipsticks are interesting, for me completely unwearable, even though the pale pink is a bit tempting.

I like a few of the colors in the eyeshadow palette: Marina, Boa, Chinois Green, Mushroom, Oyster Mushroom, Citadel (except it looks like it might be under-pigmented), and Ash (except that it looks like it might have texture issues), and there are some other colors I’d use. I’m not a lip gloss person, but those look very uneven; the lipstick colors are *way* too light to be remotely flattering on me. If the eyeshadow colors that I like perform beautifully and don’t have a lot of dupes, I’ll consider the palette, even though there are quite a few shades I won’t use much. Overall, though, this collection doesn’t seem like one of Sephora Collection’s better efforts.

This entire collection will be a pass for me. The lipsticks look horrible, the glosses all look the same colour……invisible, and all the eyeshadows (maybe with the exception of 2 of them) will be too light/chalky for my dark skin. What a disappointment!
