So many companies releasing Naked style neutral palettes, I will be broke haha!
I really have to stop trying to justify the purchases by saying to myself “But I work in makeup so it’s ok…”
Some of these shades look a little chalky, but the colors themselves are so nice! Looking forward to your review!
Madrague is so like your skin color it’s amazing!

Mary Avatar

Wow I was jonesing for this palette but the swatches look terrible! I was counting on those top 2 right hand side browns but they’re the worst! Thanks Christine, for saving me money!

Miss J Avatar

I have both of those in singles, and the singles are fantastic! I have no idea how a perfectly good product gets put into a palette and turns into what’s seen here. Ugh.

xamyx Avatar

Ditto! If those are the only 2 shades you’re interested in, save $31 and buy the singles, which are fairly huge, and will last a really, really long time, too!

Genevieve Avatar

I was thinking the exact same thing! I have several of these shades as either singles or duos and the colors in these swatches look kind of chalky and some of the coloring seems off to me- like Lhasa and Ashes to Ashes especially- but, maybe it is just my computer. All I know is that the singles and duos I have are amazing- and although it isn’t really looking like it now- I really hope the quality comes through in this palette. If the eyeshadows are true to the form of the singles/duos I will probably buy this palette just to have several of my favorite shades in one place as opposed to schlepping a bunch of little compacts around, because they honestly don’t get as much love as they should since they are in their own seperate compacts and as much as I love them, I tend to forget about them. So, this would be amazing if the quality is there and the reviews are good- if not, then on to the next neutral palette that should be debuting, oh, in the next minute or so-lol:)

Christine Avatar

Have you ever swatched say Bali and Coconut Grove on dry skin? If you own either, I’d recommend just swatching on regular, dry skin, like your forearm, and seeing the results. NARS’ matte formula doesn’t work well on bare skin (unless you have oilier lids), because it’s such soft, powdery formula that it just dusts/sheers away on dry skin. As compared to a shade like Fez which adheres and binds to dry skin no problem.

Lila Avatar

That means it’s a subpar product. A good shadow will not NEED primer to go on smoothly. Dusting away on dry skin means it simply isn’t a very good quality.

Alia Avatar

I completely agree Lila and as lovely as these colors look in the palette they don’t seem to perform well at all! I am sticking with Chanel, Dior, and Tom Ford as they never disappoint!

xamyx Avatar

Stila Kitten is *much* frostier. This is off the top of my head, as I haven’t worn AAE for a while, but it seems to me UD Bootycall is the closest in terms of color/texture that I can think of. IMO, if you can manage it, AAE is definitely worth the $34 pricetag. You may even be able to catch it on ebay for less. I’m a neutral/NC15ish, and I love the duo as an all over base. HTH

Genevieve Avatar

AAE is really excellent, but xAmyx is right- Stila Kitten is frosty in comparison. Not having my shadows right in front of me and trying to remember off the top of my head, maybe MAC Sweet Heat? I am sure Christine has a review of the AAE duo with some dupes that might be helpful. It is a really lovely duo- I am nw20 and I like it for a natural day time look. Good luck in your search!

xamyx Avatar

Edie has more “sparkle”, where AAE has more “frost”, if that makes sense. Also, AAE is more of a “fleshy” shade, and Edie is “cream”.

meganlisa Avatar

Interesting palette…not what I would have expected from NARs, who does such amazing and intense color. Still, I guess it makes sense..but …from the swatches I’m not seeing why buy this naked/natural palette over all the others. So curious to read the full review.
Are people really that scared of color that we need all these UD Naked theme dupes? Never thought about it before but even UD seems to be adding more in that category.

xamyx Avatar

People love neutrals, and not everyone is fortunate enough to be in a station of life that allows us to wear what we want, when we want. Besides, neutrals are nice to have as a base on which to add color, which is what I tend to do.

AngieButterfly Avatar

It’s a combination of people preferring neutrals or having to wearing them during work. But it’s definitely not just a work thing. I see so many comments of people being afraid of color. Or their “bolder” look is only a little color under the lash line to make their eyes stand out. Lol. I love color, personally. But I do admit to being drawn to neutrals, as well.

xamyx Avatar

Oops… The above posted in the wrong spot, LOL!

What I meant to say here is, I totally thought the same thing! Also, why does Pandora look brown? I have the duo, and it is one of the blackest shadows I own, right up there with UD.

Wwendalynne Avatar

I own 90% of these in single form and I have to say the payoff on the singles seems vastly superior to some of the swatches here; particularly Coconut Grove and Bali which look rather dismal. I love the palette and wonder why I haven’t got off my duff and made my own custom from my singles. Surely I would get better use out of the shadows. So seemingly absolutely everyone is throwing a neutral palette into the ring after watching UD kick butt with their nekkids palettes.

Genevieve Avatar

I was thinking the same thing- my NARS singles are amazing, but I don’t use them nearly as often as I would like because I tend to use palettes where everything is together. If you make your NARS singles/duos into a palette- please, please tell me how you accomplish it because I would love to do it too!

xamyx Avatar

There’s a part of me that wants to depot into Z Palettes, but for some reason, I just can’t bear to do that with my NARS singles… I currently house them in a Sterilite 3-drawer, sorted by neutrals & color, and each pile from dark to light.

Anaïs Avatar

I depotted all my nars duo in one z palette and all my singles into another one with some rouge bunny rouge refills. I use them a lot more now ! The quality is perfect and the singles and duos i own that are in this palette don’t look like that at all ! But I’m still hesitating between having this or not^^

Wwendalynne Avatar

I’m with you on that. I tend to reach for my custom MAC palettes or a couple of my fav pre-mades out of habit rather than my singles/duos and I do actually really love these shadows. I’m thinking of depotting using either the oven method or the flat-iron method (plenty of tutorials on these methods on YouTube. I have personally and successfully used the flat iron method on MAC shadows, but never depotted a NARS shadow so I will be checking youtube for specific instructions) and then storing in a Z-Palette as mentioned by Amy below. It seems criminal to depot the packaging in a way, but I have to have a specific shadow in mind when putting on my makeup to then actually reach for any of my NARS singles or duos so I think forgoing the nice and safe packaging in lieu of getting better use out of these shadows.

Mariella Avatar

Interesting to read this, Christine because I commented yesterday that the Lhasa here didn’t look nearly as good as my single of it. I wonder what it is that causes companies’ formulas to change so negatively when they do repromotes or put things in palettes. I find Lhasa to be such a perfect shadow (the one in the single) but this one looks far less great.

xamyx Avatar

ATA looks more “golden” in the swatch, and the colors do seem a bit off in several shades, but when comparing them, each is closest to what they’re labelled!

Mariella Avatar

Oh this looks so tempting, even though I have several of the shadows already and, as a neutrals freak, I’ve got dupes of all the others but still…having them all in one neat, handy palette….who can resist. I have Lhasa eye shadow and it looks a lot nicer than it does here, so I’ll be interested to see what you have to say about it, Christine. Also, I think the name of this palette is very cute/clever.

yellowlantern Avatar

A lot of these swatches look terrible. Lhasa here looks so different from the swatches of it as a single. Like a completely different color entirely.

Zainab Avatar

It’s okay, but I think I have enough neutral shades. What happened to Ashes to Ashes? The one I owned didn’t look like that, it was a bit darker and more pigmented.

Catherine Avatar

Is his going to be available at Sephora? I had thought it was a Nordstrom exclusive until this post, but I’m used to you listing the specific retailers that would have it. Thanks!

Christine Avatar

Hi Catherine,

NARS did not give a list of retailers for the Eye Palette. As provided by NARS, this was the information I posted and all that I know: “Available January 15th on narscosmetics.com and NARSissist followers; February 1st for NARS Boutiques and department/specialty stores.”

xamyx Avatar

IMO, ATA is probably closer to UD Snakebite, although Snakebite is just the teeniest hit browner. For reference, I swatched the ATA single against Naked & Naked 2, on fair/neutral skin. Hustle, BTW, is much darker/plummier. HTH

Amanda Avatar

Blast. Hustle is my perfect neutral eye crease color and I can’t seem to find anything that dupes it. I love the Naked 1 palette, I do, but sometimes I wish I could do a quad or something instead of a brick – and it’s the ONLY ONE in my perfect eye that isn’t a single!

xamyx Avatar

If you haven’t tried MAC Smut, that may be one to look into. Also, UD Busted, although I’m not sure if it’s available as a single, either.

Carrie Avatar

I look at your pics and the promo pic and they almost look like two different palettes, especially that bottom row which looka way more jewel toned. Odd.

Nicole Avatar

I don’t own any Nars shadows. I’ve been wanting to, so I bought the God Created Woman palette and was so disappointed in it that i returned it. Now seeing this palette made me so very excited to get my hands on some, but by the swatches they seem so dull and not worth the money. Their shadows get so much hype that if this is any indicator of how they really are, I’m not sure I’ll be keeping them on my wishlist. Also I so so wish the blush palette had different colors. I really wanted that too! Anxiously awaiting a full review!

That Fashionista Avatar

Christine, I bought the And God Created Woman palette and returned it. The quality of the shadows simply cannot hold a candle to NARS permanent range of singles and duos. (The colors in the palette also did not blend easily.) I find that to be the case with a lot of NARS’ eyeshadow palettes, actually, which is a shame. The American Dream was usable up to the 6-month mark; I found that a few of the shadows had hardened, and I literally had to dig my brush into the shades to get some pigmentation.

I don’t know why NARS feels the need to put out less-than-stellar palettes, as I would imagine that most people who are new to the brand and would like to try out products from the line would gravitate towards a palette as a starter (and would probably be turned off from the line.)

Morena Avatar

Iim probably the only one that doesn’t own a strictly naked palete (because i prefer colors over nudes and some of my palettes have nude shades in them)but i think the Mac warm palette looks better than this. And that urban decay still tops them all. I would like to own one but wit so many out right now its harder to decide. But i like UD’s formula / quality.

Hannah Avatar

Ahhh, we needed another nude set!… said no one ever after the Nth Naked palette..
Thank you Christine for all your hard work, the “attack” was not meant for you of course :))

Marion Avatar

Oooooh a dream come true…I so totally agree with the poster above who cannot bring herself to destroy the beautiful little talisman containers….but Noooo another factory cheapie maybe….do they all come out the same door ?? Anyway hopefully maybe not…

Chelle Avatar

It’s beautiful, no doubt. But I’ve had it up to here with neutral palettes. I do love the concept though (and hell, it’s cheaper than MAC’s 15 pan pre-made palette!) but lordie what I wouldn’t give for some outright colour in that palette. Here’s hoping they come out with a colourful version.

And hmmm wonder if I’d prefer this or the Chocolate Bar palette…. Decisions decisions…

Vee Avatar

Aw man, I was so excited when I first heard about this. But now, I’m not feeling it anymore 🙁 I think I’d rather complete my Urban Decay Naked Palette collection (I only have Naked 3) than get this one. And the blush palette is disappointing too. Who doesn’t have Orgasm and Laguna these days? I much prefer the Guy Bourdin One Night Stand Palette.

Judith Avatar

I am so done with all the Nude palettes. Three neutral palettes are enough for me, I am so ready for vibrant color palettes to hit the market. Crossing my fingers!!

Amanda Avatar

I know that you always do swatches on bare skin, but would you ever consider doing swatches with primer as well? I think it would be super helpful as a lot of shades preform quiet differently when used with a base, and a lot of readers probably always use primer.

Newtomakeup Avatar

Do you think I should get this or the Lorac Pro palette? Any advice would be great!
This one does not seam very vibrant for some reason, perhaps it’s just my screen!
