Sneak Peek: Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo Photos & Swatches
Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo
Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo ($34.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a new, permanent twist-up jumbo lip crayon available in 20 shades. I love how the names are uplifting/motivational! The new formula is supposed to have “modern color” with a hydrating, “lustrous finish.” Here are swatches of the full range, with reviews to come:

I feel like I could wear almost all of these! The finish and colors are gorgeous. I hope there is some cling to the lips though, especially with the brighter colors.
One of each please.
One of the few collections of lipsticks I’ve seen where I think, “I can wear that…and that…and that!” I think I could wear just about all of them. (OK, some of the nudes are a stretch, but I’ll check them out rather than recoil from that block of color as I do most of the time. 🙂 ) I like all the shades. Interested to read your review.
These are a little pricy for me, but if they get good reviews I might pick one up because I really support the message Hourglass is trying to spread with this product!
These look lovely! Great colors, looks like a great formula, I love the packaging, and most of all… THE NAMES OF THE LIPSTICKS. No “yaaaas”, no “slay”, nothing stupid… they are inspiring names. Good job, Hourglass, I will be checking these out ASAP.
Finally, names that don’t feel pandering, condescending, or completely out of touch.
What a concept, right? Finally a lipstick made for people who aren’t teenagers! Except teenagers shouldn’t accept that kind of thing either. I’m 28 going on 60 I guess 😛
Totally agree. Am I the only female who does feel empowered with Sassy Bitch or whatever nonsense name some brands come up with? I’m so tired of having my power linked to sassy sexuality in cosmetics.
Edit: DOESN’T feel empowered
Amen to that! Finally, some names that respect the intelligence of the consumers. Beauty and intelligence are NOT mutually exclusive–I like that there’s finally a product that reflects both.
Totally agree with the names. These sound so inspiring and uplifting. I hate the socially trendy names
Yes! I may purchase Activist for the name (and the color I would totally wear) bc I’m gonna need it over the next few years!
You and me both! And it really caught my eye…
Yup, 100%. This is my issue with Urban Decay – I’m far from a pearl clasping prude but the names of their products are just in such bad taste I can’t imagine buying them for a young girl (or even myself). Psycho? Perversion? Disturbed? Heartless? Liar? Violate? Rejected? I mean, what is wrong with the marketing people? It’s genuinely unsettling to me.
I don’t need to denigrate myself via my lipstick thanks. I appreciate Hourglass’s message and I hope that it catches on with the rest of the industry.
Not to mention a lot of the names UD uses (Psycho, Disturbed) play on mental health ableism in a society that is already rampant with it. As someone with an anxiety disorder it’s hard enough (even though I’m completely functional and such) to not think of myself as “crazy” when so much of society says that. I don’t need my lipstick to call me names when everyone else is.
Absolutely agree with everything you said and this is something I’m disturbed by too (oops, just referenced another UD lipstick shade ?).
I can deal with the drug references in some of their product names (although I personally think they lack the subtlety or wit to come across as clever). But slapping ‘Broken’ and ‘Rejected’ on a product is just strange in a different way. These are worse associated with shame, there’s nothing edgy or tongue in cheek about them. Manic, Psycho, Insanity, Paranoid…I don’t know what to say really. It’s tastes and unsettling in a way that Half Baked and Roach never were.
Seriously. The only thing I can think of is that they’re either trying to appeal to the Hot Topic type teens (I had a phase like 15 years ago like that and would have totally bought things with those names) or they’re trying to somehow “stand out” of the pack in a really ineffective way.
Interested. I like the colors, finish and naming. For this price the hydration will matter to me, so pending any reviews I may stock up for spring
You were right! SO much better than the MUG names and the finishes look lovely
Seems like the Spring of the Lip Crayon between these and the new Chanel Jumbo Crayons. I’ve always been a fan of the crayon’s versatility and hardiness so I’m thrilled. Looks like some alluring colors here for me; can’t wait for your review.
These seem a tiny bit sheer – which is actually a plus for me! The nudes/neutrals are amazing.
The sheer aspect may work for the more nude shades for me (like Peacemaker and maybe Futurist) as I’m so pale nude shades can make me look dead, so a sheer look is much more workable. Not to mention it means much lower maintenance on the darker shades as well.
Wow, these are a lot more pigmented than I thought they would be.
Influencer, Activist, Protector and Warrior will be the main ones I’ll be looking forward to reading your thoughts on!
They are lovely; the names and the colours! Will ring up my local make up store to see when they are arriving!
The first 4 colors almost looked the same…Even with your careful lighting and photographing…i realy get angry when brands do that..like very similar colors in the same palette or very similar outputs from different products from the same range and colection etc…
Bit boring. I would rather get something for my complexion from Hourglass. I like the Clinique Chubby stick version of this. I just got the Clinique Crayola pack of 4, I like 2 of the 4.
I’m not sure what “modern color” means, but this style of lip product is totally up my alley. I’m on a year long no-buy (gotta enjoy the many lip products I already own!) so I’m glad to see these are permanent.
Warrior, Visionary, Icon and especially Liberator are my kinds of colours and I can practically hear them calling my name. If I don’t have several dupes of each of these, I will pick up the ones in which I’m “lacking” (if the term “lacking” can, in all honesty, be applied to most of us here! Y’know, the people who have a hard time choosing 5 eyeshadows they’d take to a desert island!)
Or have 4 dupes for Taraji, which actually came today! Oh, wow. Not that that means I won’t succumb to TF Savage and don’t rue missing MAC A Little Lusty. Desert island, maybe not…I don’t do anything for the beach…but you nailed our obsession. For me, it’s like a variation on the old saw about shoes. In my case, it’s ‘If you like the color, buy it in every iteration, by every brand you like.’ Refreshing names, rather than social media inspired overload. Not a big HG fan, but this looks like a lovely offering. Most of their stuff is a non fit for me, esp their matte nudes. Will have to check ingredients. These look fab on Christine, but what doesn’t?
Hey Christine, how would you compare the formula with bite amuse bouche in terms of hydration, longevity, and smooth application?
Thank you
The brighter/darker shades are gorgeous. Nice packaging, too.
I love crayon lipsticks. If these review well, will pick up some
So many wearable colours in this collection!
First impressions are guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud!
I’m super interested in Activist. It looks like a universally flattering rose. The name is perfect, because everyone should be an activist!
I’m almost embarrassed by how many of these I really want. Very much to my taste, the lot of ’em.
These look interesting! The arm swatches look like the product might be patchy, but they mostly don’t look patchy on your lips, so I’ll be very interested to read your reviews. If they really are hydrating, I’ll probably want to try a shade or two 🙂
Gorgeous shades! And they look so hydrating! I look forward to reviews. 🙂
OMG, YAAAASSSS QUEEN! SLAY! HOLY F*CK THESE ARE AMAZEBALLS!
I love the neutral shades, some may be a bit too sheer to be worth it but some might be just right. I too appreciate the names.
These look really pretty, I like them a lot! Very tempted to get at least one!
Not sure what to think about these. One the one hand, they don’t appear as lustrious as HG’s IG pics suggests yet one the other hand, the more pigmented shades look more luminous. I own 1 HG lipstick that I rarely reach for (I have too many plum shades) but will give one from this line a try pending Christine’s reviews. I do appreciate the positive names for this lipstick collection.
I’ve tried Achiever and really liked it a lot! I’ll look forward to Christine’s reviews of all the colors, and seeing what she thinks. It’s not opaque, but I was pleasantly surprised at how pigmented it was. It goes on very smoothly (without being greasy) and is hydrating on the lips. However, it also feels pretty lightweight. It has a faint vanilla scent, but it’s very subtle and fades away quickly (so I don’t think that’s a big dealbreaker for anyone who prefers unscented products). As always with these crayons, I also love being able to line my lips without needing a separate lip liner.
I only have a few minor quibbles. It tends to melt and start tilting in one direction, so I’ve learned to use the side of it, rather than using it from the tip (which tends to push it down and then it tilts as it melts).
I also disagree with the “deep mauve” description of this color (on Hourglass’ website). I think Christine’s “warm plum” description is much more accurate. I really didn’t see mauve in it, and it’s more of a plummy brown. I personally love plum browns and it’s the type of color that suits me. However, I just don’t want anyone else purchasing this expecting a mauve, based on that other description–such consumers may be disappointed.
Overall though, I loved it enough to also order a backup, and be interested in purchasing another color (but will trust Christine’s descriptions and swatches a lot more than Hourglass’, after what I found with Achiever).
I can not imagine my life without your swatches 🙂 Thank you!
