Sneak Peek: ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows Photos & Swatches (Part 1)

ColourPop Better Than a Sweater Collection
ColourPop Better Than a Sweater Collection

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) are a cream and powder hybrid formula. If you’re familiar with MAC Electric Cool (which has nearly identical packaging, just in black), DiorShow Fusion Monos, Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, or Buxom Stay-There formulas, then this is very similar. It has a spongy consistency that’s more cream than powder eyeshadow, but it isn’t as wet as a true cream eyeshadow. I’ll be reviewing some shades from the range over the coming weeks, but first, here’s a sneak peek…

P.S. — They’re also in the Swatch Gallery, in case you prefer browsing that way!

Glad to see you review these! I like them but have only tried a few of the more shimmery shades and they could veer pretty sheer (which I like). Can’t wait to get your thoughts on a broader swatch of the range!

meganlisa Avatar

Pigment in Erotic, which leans less sheer than the others. Bae, also a little less sheer, especially with primer. Girly, So Quiche and I Heart This, all of which remind me of UD’s moon dust eyeshadows a little. That seem semi wet super shimmery look, which I like. But I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on these. Can’t beat the price! Thanks for doing the reviews!

Kristi Avatar

I LOVE Colourpop! I bought the megan collab and not a box of chocolates collections and OMG. They are my new favorite make up line…although I’m kind of sad that you’re reviewing them since now everybody will know about them! LOL 😉

Carrie Avatar

These look like they have promise! I still find the texture a little weird, but at only $5 per, I’m much more in the mood to experiment than I would be with the MAC version (let alone Dior or Chanel versions)

Christine Avatar

I’ve come across a few for sure that find the texture weird (this type, in general, not necessarily ColourPop’s specifically), but I totally love that spongy, mostly cream but goes on more like a powder texture (as evidenced by my great love affair with Dior’s Fusion Monos!).

Polly Avatar

Wow! These look awesome, I’ve never even heard of ColourPop here in the UK.
The only one that seems to fall a tiny bit short is Doe a Deer, the rest look incredible!

Looking forward to the review, Christine!

Raven Avatar

omg awesomeee. i’ve picked up a few but its so cool you’re reviewing these too! would love to see what you think! and maybe pick up some lippies too?

Aline Avatar

Dare is absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to see how these perform. I have some of the Dior Fusion shadows and while they’re gorgeous, it’s challenging to actually get them to transfer to the lid.

Aline Avatar

I haven’t tried any of the matte ones. I’ve pretty much given up on brushes and just use my fingers and I’ve tried the sponge tip applicator that comes with them and it think that’s ok. I’m kind of bummed that I lost so much product on my fingers, but they’re really gorgeous on and I get lots of compliments every time I use them. I wish I had the magic solution for you.

Aquie Avatar

Yay so happy they are getting love on your site. I have been down with them for a long time and now I see they are all the rage amongst the YouTube folks…Absolutely amazing brand that writes a personal note with every order, amazing color payoff and the lippie stix and lippie pencils are amazing as well…My favorite eyeshadow by them are Bae, Bandit, Rex, and Lace!!!

Kalli Avatar

I’m so excited you’re reviewing these! I love love love ColourPop! I have about 12 of the eyeshadows so far and I’ve been super impressed with their customer service. Will you be doing the Lippies as well? I’ve been curious about them, but haven’t purchased any yet.

fiaspice Avatar

Bae is calling my name. I’m not suposed to buy more make up, but I might be tempted if the review is good.

I wonder if they are “depotable” cause now I streamline my collection on Z palettes

Christina Avatar

These look pretty good! I’m not a fan of electric cools and cream shadows because they tend to crease on me, but at this price point, I wouldn’t mind picking up a few to try. They don’t look nuanced like illusion d’ombres, but some of these colours are really bright and fun!

Ginny Avatar

I’m looking at the header photo, the shade that is on the bottom left corner… is that one swatched in this post? If so, what is its name? Maybe you just haven’t swatched them all and I’m jumping the gun.

Christine Avatar

It might not be swatched – I only took group shots for the actual box sets I bought, and I’m just using those as a good “look at me!” photo. Bottom left is I Love This, and you’ll see it soon. I think it’s the next sneak peek 🙂 They’ll all be up today. And if you’re really impatient, they’re already uploaded and viewable in the Swatch Gallery.

Mariel Avatar

Will you also be reviewing the lippies? I’m not a big eyeshadow fan so I’ve been looking at the lippies for awhile but not sure what to get! Having some swatches and reviews would be so helpful!

Thu Avatar

Glad to see these on your site! I swatched a bunch of these a while ago on my blog, and have since ordered more shadows as well as some lippies. I think they’re pretty awesome!

Christine Avatar

Not a fan of the texture? You’re not the first to say it! There seems to be some who love that spongy cream eyeshadow formula (e.g. Chanel, Dior, etc.), but there are a few readers and friends who’ve been more, “Hmmm….” on them. Which ones do you have?

Hope Avatar

I can’t wait to see your reviews on these! I have been going between these and the MUG foiled shadows and would love to see how you compare them before I make a purchase!

Rachel R. Avatar

I have no idea what brand the synthetic brush is. It just says, “lips.” It was probably part of a set at one point, most likely not a terribly expensive one. It’s a flat synthetic brush that is slightly tapered to a point. About 1/3″ across (too big for lips, IMO). I have a similar one from bhcosmetics that works pretty well, too.

I save the cheap sponge tip applicators out of eye shadow compacts, because you never know. Those actually work really well for patting these on if you’re like me and just make a mess applying with fingers.

As far as fluffy brushes, my favorite is BareEscentuals Eye Defining Brush, or similar angled fluffy blending brush.

Sorry to be so vague. I don’t a huge brush collection. Aside from a few bdelliums, a MAC and a Tarte, most of them are pretty inexpensive. I use e.l.f. or BareEscentuals mainly. I’m sure you and a lot of your readers would have much better recommendations.

Jessy Avatar

I’ve been waiting to read your opinion on these for a while. I recently discovered them through many Instagram MUAs and so far I’ve placed 2 orders. I absolutely love them! And the lippie stix are also my favorite new lip product (wearing Brinx right now, my favorite), I also have Fancy, Lumiere, Frida and Leather (a very lovely deep purple). I would like to see what you think about the more unusual shades like Raw, Charm, Bunny, Bull Chic and Wet.

Jessy Avatar

I like using a flat brush or a small shader brush, even a concealer brush works for me. I’ve also tried a regular shading brush, it’s ok for the satins and metallics, but I find that it fails to pick up the glittery shades. I’ve also used a fluffy crease brush and they blend out decently. For the more glittery ones, I think patting the product on the lids is the best way to go.

Jordan Avatar

omg some of these are gorgeous. Did you apply them just straight as they are? Or did you have to apply them wet to get the results in the pictures?

Kimberly Avatar

I have 6 of these and love the less glittery ones. I use Bae in my outer corner almost every day, no matter what other colors I’m wearing…makes the look a bit more interesting.

Kimberly Avatar

I use my fingers…I will lightly blend the edges with a brush if necessary, but find that it can shake the glitter off onto my face. Really glad you’re reviewing these and showing swatches. Can’t wait to see what you think!

melanie y Avatar

So glad to see your awesome swatches of these! I have a bunch and love almost all of them! Can’t wait to see what looks you come up with using these!

Alecto Avatar

I’m trying to figure out if any of them are matte. Bandit? Cheeky? Desert? Doe-a-deer? Or do they just seem matte compared to the sparkliness of the rest? More satin? … What do you think? I also like Bae, but I have MAC Club and that seems close. There are a clear 1/2 dozen “I wants” in these swatches (I mean in all the posts). Pretty tempting!

Alecto Avatar

Aaaaagh, you got me! I came back to read your answer and ended up browsing the ColourPop posts again and … now I’m going to have to get some. [sigh]

Ryou Avatar

Okay, I may need Amira and Cricket… Can’t wait to hear about how it performs. I’m seriously hoping it’s somewhat water-resistant, but hey, for $5 I’d probably enjoy them even if they weren’t.

Nicole Avatar

So glad to see you are reviewing these. I’ve been eyeing them and some other non-mainstream brands like Ardency Inn, Limecrime and dose of colour..although I,guess they may be “mainstream” because all the products I am wanting are constantly sold out on the latter 2. Wrapping up my gifting for others and feeling like a little splurge for me is in line perhaps. I was planning to scope out some of these brands..THEN,I heard the Wayne Goss “holiday” brush is being ‘re released soon. At $85 ,now I’m torn. I don’t really “Need” a brush or any makeup honestly. I’m not sure if the brush is worth it or not. I like the multo-purpose idea. Hard choice..I’d really appreciate Christine’s opinion ar any others if they know anything about this brush. site unseen brushes are hard for me and I’m bad at returning online cosmetics…then I regret the purchase while sits barely used.Help!

Karen Avatar

Love colour pop! I have a bunch of the eyeshadows and a few of the lippie sticks, only two of the pencils. My favourite are first the eyeshadows followed by the pencils. The lip ie sticks-im not sure how I feel about them yet-i wanna love them-but I just don’t think I can get there….
Almost every day for the past couple of months I’ve been wearing one or two of these eyeshadows in my looks. They are so unique and go on fast, with minimal fussing. Beautiful! For sure my favourite is Bae-been wearing it exclusively for several days in a row, and that’s big-cause I never ever wear the same eyeshadows even two days in a row!!!

Karen Avatar

I think it’s the texture, it just doesn’t seem to mesh nicely with my lips. Almost like the consistency is too thick, or waxy, if that makes any sense. But I do absolutely love the colours, shape and packaging, they are genius in that way. Although today looking at your beautiful lip swatches is making me want to go back and try the ones I have again, see if I could change my own mind about it.
