Smoky Eyes: Kat Von D Memento Mori Look
Smoky Eyes: Kat Von D Memento Mori Look
Is it really Thursday? Already? I can’t believe it’s July 1st! I only have about a month left of summer (aka no school) — time flies so fast sometimes.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Benefit Tattle Tale Cream Eyeshadow (pale gold), NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Kat Von D Sugar Skull Eyeshadow (white gold), Kat Von D Peggy Eyeshadow (teal), Kat Von D Tijuana Eyeshadow (black-brown with gold flecks), MAC Brule Eyeshadow (highlighter), Kat Von D Black Metal Love Pencil (black with silver glitter), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent), Purple Lab Pearlesque Show Primer
- Cheeks: Korres #15 Natural Blush (soft peach-bronze)
- Lips: Urban Decay Indecent Lipstick (soft coral), Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy Lip Junkie (champagne)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249, then apply Tattle Tale cream eyeshadow onto the lid as a color base. Using the 239, apply Sugar Skull eyeshadow on the inner half of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend Peggy eyeshadow on the outer half of the lid with the 239. Next, apply Tijuana eyeshadow into the crease with the 226. Blend Brule eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Lightly tap Sugar Skull eyeshadow along the upper crease and then soften. Bring everything together by applying Black Metal Love pencil on the lower lash line and Sugar Skull eyeshadow patted below. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply #15 Natural blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Indecent lipstick first, and then layer Midnight Cowboy lip junkie for a complementing lip.
AAAAAh!!This is such a stunning look! Christine, this is gorgeous on you.
Thanks a lot, Dianna!
Oooo this is such a pretty look – and it seems to work well with brown eyes too! I have dark brown eyes but i find it hard to pull off bright blue eyeshadow, i really have to give this one a try (:
Try it!! 🙂
Wow, this look is really pretty. I’m going to try this. 🙂
Thanks so much, Curvacious!
What a sexy smokey eye! I totally love it. One of my personal favourites fo sho!
Thanks, Hilana!
This is really pretty! the three colours together are like summer with a kick 🙂
Thank you so much, Brittany!
I think this is my favorite Temptalia look yet. There’s no Kat Von D in the Phils, but I’ll find a way!
Thank you, Diega!
Love the colors, looks great!
Thank you!
OMG this looks so great on you!!!. Do you have any dupes like what MAC colors you could use if you don’t have those?
You could try Gorgeous Gold, Shimmermoss, and Print/Carbon maybe?
This is so beautiful! I think I’ll have to buy that next time im at sephora(:
Thank you, Lindsay!
Oooh I love it! So glad you did a look with that palette because I have it and haven’t used it much yet. Beautiful.
Thanks, Kelly 😉

Thank you, Rita!
I can’t wait to try this look. I bought the Memento Mori palette months ago and haven’t yet touched it!

Thank you, Valeriya!
Really pretty, I don’t know if they sell Kat Von D in The Netherlands?
Thanks, Kira! Just at Sephoras.
Gorgeous look! I actually bought this palette last week (LOVE, except for the random creme shadow), and did a look very similar to this one. Yours is MUCH better though! 🙂
Here’s what I did: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs015.snc4/34130_425890265768_507350768_4438728_123304_n.jpg
Thanks a lot, Cynthia!
Great look!
I love how you combined the colors to come up with a really different, beautiful smokey look. I’m going to search my MAC and Smashbox stash to see if I can do something even a little like this. Beautiful and impressive!
Thank you, Melissa! Glad you enjoyed the look!
very pretty look!! I have this palette and used it alot and now I have kinda forgot about it, but this look really makes me want to revist the palette..thanks!!!
Thanks a lot, Jessica! Take it out again!
You are AMAZING! I’d loved
😀
Thanks, Sofia!
ohh so pretty. thanks for the “closed eye” photo. I would not have known where to put all of those colors and i’d probably end up looking like I got a bruised eye 🙁
Thanks so much, Kaoyee!
I love it!!! I have a soft spot for teals and this look is just amazing on you! I love how you blended the colors.
Thank you, J! 😀
Gorgeous! I love how this look strikes me as “seasonless” — it’s bold, and bright, but it seems like it would work in spring, summer, OR autumn 🙂 (Not so sure about winter, but then again, that’s probably just because it goes down to minus thirty here >.<)
I could see that! 😉
Thank you, Rae!
Oo good one! I love the three color areas (for lack of a better term) that you can see on the lid. Kind of high-contrast. I like 🙂
Thanks, Dusty 😀
I really liked this palette but the last time I was at Sephora this one was no longer on the shelves – I’ll have to investigate. It may be the only Kat Von D palette I would buy.
Definitely check it out, Alexis!
By far one of my most favourite looks that you’ve ever done, Christine! Absolutely stunning!
Thank you, Daria!
Wow! The palette didn’t look that amazing to me but I love this look! I may have to give it a 2nd chance. Sugar Skull looks so awesome!
Thanks a lot, Mindy!
You’re pretty enough that you’d probably look great in any colours, but these really do suit you so well. You look radiant and I am forever jealous of your ability to pull off teal/ aqua shades- they’re very finicky on me.
Aw, thank you, KFM! 🙂
I really like this. It’s a good combination of colors. I didn’t know Kat Von D eye shadows went on so smoothly! Too bad they’re so expensive.
Thanks a lot, Trisha!
Love the combination of colors! I’m going to have to try this look myself. 🙂
I hope you get a chance to, Nic!
this is such a beautiful look, definitely one of my favorites so far. I’m so glad that you picked up a Kat Von D palette. I hope in the future when she releases more palette and you’ll be able to show us looks with it.
Thank you, Kiki!
oh this look is hella pretty I’m gonna have fun with this pallete i just picked it up like 3 days ago just for fun i though i was just gonna leave it lying around but now i can actually put it to use
Thank you, Melanie! Great timing!

Thanks, Munazza!
Hey, thats sooo pretty 🙂 was wondering if you could suggest MAC e/s alternatives for the colours?
Love Love
Jewls xxxx
Thanks, Jewls!
Try Nylon, Shimmermoss (or Newly Minted, if you can find it), and Bronze.
Just one word Amazing!!!
Thank you, Ilmy!
Pretty!!! I never wear looks without liner on my top lid. I’ll have to give it a try.
Thanks a lot, Nisha! 🙂
I’m in love with the pop of blue on your outer corner. This is a really lovely look <3
Thank you, Angela!
A Benefit Cream Eyeshadow!
Yay!
This look is gorgeous. I love teal eyes with pinky coral lips.
Thanks a lot 🙂
You really look gorgeous!Usually y prefer more natural looks but this one is really something! it looks great on you! As always you know exactly how to make a difference;-)
Aw, thanks a lot, Sofia!
I love this look on you, Christine!
Thanks, Joanna!
OMg! this look is so pretty!
So glad you like it, Elysia!
This is beautiful Christine, I love this look on you!
Thanks a lot, Michelle!
I love when you do a green eye look with peachy cheeks and lips. And you usually do that when you do a green eye.
Thank you, Diana!
Great look Christine 🙂 This is one of my favorite recent looks of yours. Excellent use of color!
Thanks, Lisa!
I love how there is just a touch of the teal in the look. It really makes the color pop and doesn’t look to overwhelming. Love this look! Can’t wait to try it out.
I’m so happy you liked it — thanks, Neena!
Definitely one of my fave looks by you! Love it, it’s gorgeous on you! & YOUR EYEBROWS… I LOVE your eyebrows! I seriously do.
What do you use to fill them in?
Thanks, Niki!
MAC Espresso Eyeshadow <3 Brun is pretty, but it can be too dark and overpowering in thicker brows. Cork & Wedge are great shades for brows, too.
that was pretty cool christine…
the smokey effect is nicelly coming up…
u know i wanna compliment u about ur eyebrows …
i was going through ur older tutorials n i saw they were in diff shape then…
but wow these looks so good on u … the shape has changed completely
Thank you so much, Rashmi!!
This is my favorite look that you’ve done so far, you look so pretty. I didn’t realize by looking at the palette that it could produce such a glam look!
Thanks, Dini!
I love this look. It seems very wearable to me. Is there anything like Tijuana made by anyone else? I’m really lemming the palette now.
Thank you, Caroline! I can’t think of anything off hand. I think NARS might have something…
Just gorgeous, you’re glowing!!! This is my favorite look – I’ll have to take my unused palette out and give it a try!
Thanks, Leslie!
Absolutely LOVE this. If I could pull off this look – I would feel a million dollars, because that’s how stunning you look Christine! If only we got Kat Von D here in Australia! *shakes fists*
Thank you, Kimberley 😀
I love the look! I’m wearing it out today and used the Lemon Chiffon shadestick I got from you for the first time instead of Tattle Tale :)! And also the Utterly Posh Dazzleglass which I hadn’t noticed how nice it looked for summer so I put that on top of Fresh Salmon :). Thanks for the look. I tried a look like this just last Saturday with this palette and over blended so thanks for the tips on how to use the colors better (feathering not swiping, it helped a lot!)
YAY!! I’m so glad you tried it! It always makes me excited to hear from someone who does 🙂 Lemon Chiffon was a great substitute for Tattle Tale, too!!
You’re so gorgeous! 🙂 I’m so jealous of you 🙁
Thank you, Ali!
I immitated this look today for work (I used Obsessive Compulsive’s Lafayette, MUFE’s #83, and an Aromaleigh shadow that I think is called Amber) and soooo many customers complimented my makeup! Well done, you!
Yayy!!
Thanks so much for featuring the Pearlesque Show Primer!
XOXO, MUAH!
-Karen
Sure thing, Karen!
I think I need to try this one… 🙂
Also, a side note, I’m a half-Japanese half-French Canadian and it’s nice to see someone with somewhat similar colouring having fun with makeup! (Hapa?) Whee!
Thank you! 🙂
Hey, that sooo pretty
Thanks, Jaspreet!
Very veeery beautiful!!! Amazing!
Thanks, Jelly!
Great look! I know I should probably be commenting on the eyeshadow instead of your actual irises but I have to say, they are probably the coolest irises I’ve ever seen LOL leopard print! 🙂 Love your reviews and tutorials btw! xo Tasha from Toronto
Thank you Tasha! 😀
WOW this amazing! your very talented! do you have a youtube account?
Temptalia! 🙂
OMG your eyes are so pretty, like they have something magical :O!
Thanks, Melene! 🙂
That is STUNNING! Gorgeous color combo for your brown eyes. I need to try this look myself!
