I might just have to buy them all! I’ve never seen such a collaboration. I don’t really care about the products, the packaging looks sooo cool. Are they available for international shipping?

I actually like the collection and am looking forward to picking up a few things here and there. I’m a huge fan of Mario, so it’s definitely more a collector’s item than anything. I don’t mind that the shades may be similar to past releases because, at this point, I have probably every colour under the sun and am just buying new things because I enjoy them, not because I don’t own them yet. I imagine a lot of heavy buyers are like that as well–when you own a lot, new shades aren’t new and unique anymore. I also think they keep in line with the general trends in Asia, so releasing these shades makes sense–it’s their biggest market.

It’s a shame we don’t have the full line here. Their base products are really great, and I always pick some up when I travel to other countries.

I mean… Neat, I guess.. But I love Luigi and Daisy (I know she didn’t show up till later, believe me, my nerd cred is more than earned) way more than Mario and Peach. Plus I don’t feel like the actual products are even Mario themed, they just slapped some 8-bit graphics on the packaging, gave stuff some Mario-ish names and called it good enough. Hard pass.

Honestly feel like Japanese and Korean brands do “cute” right without being tacky unlike some T brand…😒
Although some drugstore ones do go over the top, but their design and price range are geared towards younger audience.

Since Shu Uemura is a Japanese brand, they’re going to target Japanese tastes, and by their standard, this isn’t considered all that “child-like”. They just have a different idea of what is and isn’t “age-appropriate”. And as someone who is used to that culture, this would be something that is cute but not immature, although not exactly elegant either. More like 20s-30s demographic because of the price range and how note “cute enough” it is.

Once upon a time, before the passing of the original inventor, Su was a good brand, it was sold in some New York department store….my friend got me a product. Then I bought some at its own store in Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Fast forward a bit, Shu had shops like the one on Fillmore Street in San Francisco with a brow boutique. And Neiman and Nordstrom sold Shu. When Shu went online only, it was still good. Sometime afterwards, Shu stopped being innovative. Shu started bring these collaborators and started making products that look like drug store brands. Worse is, the quality disappear.

Shu Uemura’s demographic is mainly Asia for sure. I went to shops in Tokyo, and their selection is much larger,
and still very fun and innovative in my opinion. It is a pity the selection is so limited online. (Why do they only sell the bright reds and all the best glitter shadows in Japan? Not fair.) I must get some pieces from this, but only pieces I will use. I find their items usually very wearable, so a few lip products and the curler is definitely coming my way… I love collecting their lash curlers. Haha!
