shu uemura for WKW: Bleu Splendor Mini Nail Duo
shu uemura Bleu Splendor Mini Nail Duo ($32.00 for 2 x 0.168 fl. oz.) is a set of polishes that can be used together or alone. The first shade is a rich, midnight blue cream that’s opaque in two coats. It has just a hint of purple, making it nearly royal blue. Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like is lighter but similar in hue. Orly La Playa is a bit darker but similar as well. The second shade is a multi-colored glitter with large, hexagonal glitter suspended in a clear base. It similar to China Glaze Snow Globe and MAC Unconditionally Fabulous. Together, the two are stunning–multi-colored glitter with larger, hexagonal glitter over such a rich backdrop? It was designed to be lovely.
The application was nice; the formula had a good consistency that allowed for even flow across the nail, good color intensity for each coat, and never felt too thick. I tested out wearing the two layered (the blue as a base, the sparkling shade layered on top), and I didn’t experience any wear issues–the two wore for a week with minor tip wear and no chipping.
I’m a bit stunned at the price tag, though. I believe the full-sized shu lacquers are $16–the two shades together are the equivalent of a single bottle and yet the price tag is double. The smaller bottles are cute to look at but less functional than full-sized polishes because of the smaller, shorter cap, which can be less comfortable to use, depending on the size of your hands.

Wow that blue is gorgeous! It looks nice with the glitter over top too. A bit pricey for mini bottles of polish though.
Butter LONDON’s Royal Navy is similar to that blue 🙂 Just in case you wanted to get something a little less pricey and a bigger bottle.
That blue is absolutely gaw-juss, just perfect. Love this duo, but the price? Not so much.
Actually I think, OPI – Servin’ Up Sparkle is a perfect dupe for the sparkling shade.
Here is a swatch of Servin’ Up Sparkle layered on a purple OPI nailpolish (Grape Set Match) – http://thegirlwithabow.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Combo2.jpg
thats a nice blue 🙂
Ugh they are so pretty but for that price? I’d much rather find a dupe!
Those are beautiful! They were made for each other and look so festive!
Really love them. The glitter is really nice. Way too expensive, though. Sigh!
I love it! But the price is what will keep me from buying it. So gorgeous, though!!
Looks gorgeous for sure but I could dupe it for half the price or less.
Pretty but not pretty enough for that price tag, yikes!
I LOVE the glitter! I’m surprised they each don’t have their own names though :/
Thnks for swatching them together!
That blue looks like a dead ringer for RBL Dead Calm.
They look nice but pretty expensive, I’m sure there are a lot of cheaper dupes out there.
I have a curiosity if you don’t mind. Why do you leave that space on your nails ? You don’t paint them fully, like starting right from the cuticle.
It’s easier on my cuticles, since I will often swatch 10-15 polishes in one day 🙂
Oh I got it, thank you 🙂 I thought you do it in order to let your nail breath or something like that.
Btw, your cuticles look amazing, how do you keep them in such a great shape ?
Nothing, lol! I don’t use any treatment products on my nails 🙁
JESUS. And I thought Dior polishes were expensive — $22 for .33 ounces. These are 10 bucks more and have less polish!!
Oh Christine, why did u show this, I’m affraid I have to buy this because I’m a sucker 4blues, even if it is pricey!
Love both polishes but not the price. I feel like I can find something very similar in bigger bottles for a lot cheaper.
Its gorgeous!Very beautiful and pretty.I love it.
pretty but can be duped. i also checked this out at my local counter, two polish for S$45! not worth it. 🙁 but really very pretty. wouldn’t mind getting as a gift, lol!
Wonder what the price on individual polishes was! $32 wouldn’t necessarily be bad (painful, yes!) but it just seems out of line for their previous pricing on full-size, individual shades! Usually in a set, duo, kit, or mini environment, you pay a little less!
Everything from Shu Uemura is expensive…..just not as expensive as Cle de Peau. It is a Japanese brand and their products are made in Japan after all. When I was in my early ’20s, Shu Uemura was located at Century City Shopping Center in Los Angeles where I was able to select all the delicious lipsticks and blushes….not a limited selection. Quality items for every item so I am not surprise that this nail duo turned up so well.
The blue one is sooo gorgeous!!! I def want to apply it on my nails right now. lol
This color made me happy. it’s beautiful. and the sparkle is to die for.
These nail colors are really pretty! Especially that blue one 🙂
The blue is lovely, but I bet it can be duped for a lot less than $32!
The glitter looks just like NYX Ice Glitter from the Salon formula line. i think il stick with the cheaper one haha
I know this is a total rip-off, but I couldn’t resist buying it after seeing Karla’s swatches. It’s just as gorgeous in person as it was on her and is on you, Christine! I’m already planning it as part of my makeup for my family Chanukah party, even though that’s quite a long ways off (cause I’m a big nerd like that :).
Sounds like a good pairing for the event!
