Sephora Sunbleached Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette
Sephora Sunbleached Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00 for 0.395 oz.) includes ten eyeshadows, with two being oversized. I liked the palette overall; it’s not the best palette of all-time, but it’s decent to good. It runs light to mid-tone with only one truly dark/contrasting shade, so it is likely a better fit for those who like their colors softer. A good primer should fix the majority of pigmentation issues that I saw. Three of the shades (Secret Boudoir, Desert Rose, and Walking in the Sand) are part of the permanent range, while the remaining seven are new–and as a nice touch, they’re actually indicated as bestsellers right on the back, which just seems so nice for transparency’s sake.
Sephora’s Colorful Eyeshadow formula is supposed to “provide superior color, coverage, and long-lasting wear (up to 10 hours)” and be “exceptionally easy to apply.” I quite like the Colorful Eyeshadow formula (not every shade is a winner, of course!), but they tend to be nicely pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing.
Secret Boudoir is a light beige with warm, peachy undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency that was just a smidgen powdery. The color lasted for nine hours on me. Kat Von D Countess (LE, ) is darker. Tarte Sand Out from the Crowd (LE, ) is less shimmery. Anastasia Vanilla (P, $12.00) is lighter. Too Faced Dream On (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Too Faced Heaven (P, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Her Mistress (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, brighter. Tarte Just Malt Away (LE, ) is darker. Kat Von D Damned (LE, ) is less shimmery. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Night Owl #4 (P, ) is lighter. Hourglass Obscura #1 (P, ) is warmer. Hourglass Monochrome #1 (P, ) is less shimmery, lighter. Kat Von D Laetus (P, ) is more muted. Tarte Summer Breeze (LE, ) is warmer. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Dreamer #1 (P, ) is warmer. Viseart Sable (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. First 15 dupes listed, see more: See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Swell is a purply-taupe with a warmer undertone and soft, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque coverage with a drier consistency that made it harder to adhere to bare skin. Over some sort of base or primer, I think it would be more buildable. It lasted for seven hours on me. Bobbi Brown Rockstar (LE, $22.00) is lighter. Giorgio Armani Shimmer Greige (LE, ) is darker, warmer. MAC Satin Taupe (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Dangerous Cuvee (P, $18.50) is more shimmery, darker. Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo (P, $18.00) is darker, warmer. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #1 (P, ) is more shimmery. MAC Phresh Out #4 (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker. Bobbi Brown Smokey Grey (LE, $21.00) is darker. Laura Mercier Violet Steel (LE, $23.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Ebony Blend #3 (LE, ) is darker. Chanel Tisse Gabrielle #3 (P, ) is more shimmery, darker. MAC Fall in Lust (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Maybelline Black Orchid (130) (LE, $6.99) is more shimmery, darker. Tarte Up Too Slate (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer. Rouge Bunny Rouge Eclipse Eagle (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Latergram is a light-medium, tangerine orange with warm, yellow undertones and a gold, frosted sheen. It had decent pigmentation, but there was some translucency there. The texture was smooth and blendable on the skin, while it wore well for eight and a half hours on me. Giorgio Armani Organica (Right) (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker. NARS St-Paul-de-Vence (Left) (LE, $24.00) is darker, more muted. Kat Von D Platonic (LE, ) is darker. Too Faced XOXO (P, ) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Desert Rose is a light peach with a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, silky consistency that was easy to work with. The color started to fade after eight and a half hours of wear. bareMinerals Peace (P, ) is darker. bareMinerals Empress (LE, ) is darker. Too Faced Bubbly (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
#tbt is a dark, chocolaty brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The texture was on the powdery side, which made it harder to get intense color out of it as it would sheer out on the skin. It remained fairly blendable, so that was an upside, as sometimes the more powdery, darker shades can turn patchy during application. It wore well for eight hours on me. MAC Cross-Cultural (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Swiss Chocolate (P, $16.00) is warmer. bareMinerals Get Ahead (LE, ) is . Chanel Charming #4 (LE, ) is darker. Tarina Tarantino Delightful #5 (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter. Kat Von D Shadow Box (P, ) is darker. Tarte Powerful (LE, ) is less shimmery. MAC Brown Down (P, $16.00) is darker. Inglot #327 (P, $6.00) is warmer. Tarte Picnic Basket (LE, ) is lighter, warmer. MAC Choco Cake (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Kat Von D Leather (LE, ) is lighter, warmer. Anastasia Chocolate (P, $12.00) is darker. Becca Ombre Nudes #5 (P, ) is darker. LORAC Corduroy (P, ) is lighter. First 15 dupes listed, see more: See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Whitewashed is a pale, buttery yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, silky texture that was a smidgen powdery but didn’t look dry applied. It wore well for eight hours on me. Divergent Altruistic Almond (LE, ) is darker. Kat Von D Entomology (P, ) is darker. Make Up For Ever M510 Vanilla (P, $21.00) is darker. Kat Von D Damned (LE, ) is more shimmery. Tarte Breakfast in Bed (LE, ) is darker. Too Faced Dream On (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter. Too Faced Dream On (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter. Tarte Free Spirit (LE, ) is . LORAC Undressed (P, ) is warmer. ColourPop One & Done (LE, $5.00) is lighter. Tarte Summer Breeze (LE, ) is lighter. Anastasia Buttery (LE, $12.00) is lighter. Buxom Mix & Mingle (P, $12.00) is . Marc Jacobs Beauty The Dreamer #1 (P, ) is brighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Swan Song is a brightened, pink-tinted white with cooler undertones and a matte finish. This type of shade will likely work better for fairer skin tones, as it does look chalky on me (it is, even in the pan, the color of chalk really, so it’s not a surprise), but for those with darker skin tones, it mixes well with the other mattes and satins in the palette to lighten colors. The texture was silky but a smidgen powdery in the pan. It lasted for eight and a half hours before fading. LORAC White (P, ) is lighter. Wet ‘n’ Wild Three’s a Party #1 (LE, $2.29) is warmer. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #10 (LE, $16.00) is darker. bareMinerals Aaah (LE, ) is darker. Make Up For Ever M126 Chalk (P, $21.00) is cooler. Kat Von D Banshee (LE, ) is brighter. Kat Von D Liberatus (P, ) is warmer. Viseart Cool Matte #1 (P, ) is lighter. Viseart Bright Editorial #1 (P, ) is cooler. LORAC Linen (P, ) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Walking in the Sand is a light-medium, yellowed peach with a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that was a little firmer compared to other shades in the palette. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. Kat Von D Vespertine (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. bareMinerals Natural (LE, ) is less shimmery. LORAC Fawn (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. Tarte Barefoot in the Grass (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. Becca Ombre Nudes #1 (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. Too Faced Lace Teddy (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. bareMinerals Empress (LE, ) is more shimmery. Inglot #330 (P, $6.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Selfie is a softened, light-medium golden brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation with a soft, smooth, and easily blended consistency that lasted for nine hours. Too Faced Y’all (P, $16.00) is lighter. LORAC Unattainable (P, ) is more shimmery, darker. Make Up For Ever I538 Pearly Gray Beige (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted. Stila Peace (P, ) is darker. Make Up For Ever ME612 Silver Brown (P, $21.00) is darker. Dior Ambre Nuit #2 (LE, ) is more muted. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Sandy Toes is a muted, peach-pink with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was firmer and a little drier, but it wasn’t too hard to get semi-opaque coverage out of it, though it was buildable to fairly opaque pigmentation in two layers. The color lasted for eight hours on me. Tarina Tarantino Tiny Pansie (LE, ) is darker, cooler. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P, ) is darker. Make Up For Ever I520 Pinky Sand (P, $21.00) is lighter. Hello Kitty Apple Pie (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter. Hourglass Monochrome #2 (P, ) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #2 (LE, ) is darker. Dior Chimere (821) (P, $31.00) is more shimmery, darker. Lancome My French #5 (LE, ) is more shimmery. Becca Ombre Rouge #2 (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. Viseart Pont des Arts (P, ) is lighter, warmer. Smashbox Posh (P, ) is more shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Sephora Sunbleached Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette
I really like the design of this palette – like the colours chosen and coordination of it. Totally getting a sun filter vibe from it. The other filter palette (overcast?) looked nice too, iirc.
I agree! I think they did well with making them fit the themes.
When I went to Sephora, it was to purchase the Overcast palette. But this one looked nice too, so I bought both. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice they are. I agree, they’re not the best palettes of all time, but they are good for the price point. I really liked the way my eye look turned out with them. For once, my impulse purchase turned out okay!
Yep! They’re decent – not the best ever – but they work and are a little more unique in some ways than other palettes!
I liked the idea behind these palettes and the way they looked, but I have to say that I don’t find them very exciting after seeing your swatches. Meh. Not bad, but kind of boring imo.
I can see that!
Hmm I might pick up some of those permanent shades. I have some empty spots in a sephora make your own palette and haven’t known what to fill them with.
Nice!
I don’t know that I could bring myself to buy an eyeshadow named Selfie, but this is quite nicely put together for us crazy pale people.
Aww, lol! 🙂
This actually has some very pretty colors. Decent quality, too. Not bad!
Woohoo!!
No, not a perfect palette, but I could certainly see this being perfect for when one wants to do a a subtle and soft e/s look to go with a winged cat-eye liner w/ lots of heavy lashes look! I guess this is why I already own many of its dupes, but not all, so just maybe….
Agreed!
I like this and the color combination. I generally am not a fan of certain shades being larger than the others. But, it doesn’t usually keep me from buying a palette. I like the packaging and price point of this. But, I think I can dupe this one pretty well throughout my stash. Seems like a nice palette overall and may be a nice fit for some.
Definitely! Not bad, not amazing.
I prefer bolder eye looks, but I agree, these colors look nice for someone who prefers a softer, more natural look. And in the last couple of years, Sephora has really been stepping up the game with their products
They really have!
I tend to like these lighter neutral shades, and I love the design of the palette. But at $32 for the palette, I think I could do better. Many of the shades in your swatches just didn’t show up at all. I’d like to feel that I can trust Sephora’s private label quality but it’s still not quite up to the quality of other brands.
You could probably do better! 🙂
remind me a bit of a smashbox palette from 5ish years ago
Cool!
Love these colors. Want it but really don’t need it. Admittedly, that hasn’t stopped me before.
Can they be applied with a damp brush too? I forgot to ask.
I think so, but I’m not 100% sure! I probably wouldn’t do it with mattes.
lol! 😉
I received a Ebates gift certificate last night and ordered it! Serendipity.
This looks pretty nice! It would be kind of like having almost a whole palette of highlighting shades – usually I find that palettes lean too heavily on the dark side than the light side for my taste. I’ve never tried Sephora eyeshadows, so they seem to be worth considering. The price is maybe a touch higher than I’d want to pay for it.
Glad the lightness of this palette appeals to you!
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I love the way this palette looks, and these shades are super pretty. It’s a “trendy” concept, but it doesn’t look hokey or tacky at all (I’m thinking about the Too Faced “Filter” face palette here). I think the shades are coordinated really well, and they managed to make a palette with both warmer and somewhat cooler shades look really unified. I’m also surprised I don’t have an exact dupe for any of these shades. I wish I did, I’m trying to get myself to stop buying eyeshadow palettes! But something about this one is calling my name.
I think they did a good job working with the theme/not going totally overboard with it!
A “B” isn’t too bad. Actually, it’s much better than I anticipated. I should have swatched this while I was in the store… but there are just so many things to choose from that it’s difficult for me to stay focused!
LOL! I don’t think I could stay focused in Sephora!
Returned this one and kept overcast. Found these didn’t seem to blend as well or have as good pigmentation as the overcast ones.
Happy to hear you liked one of them!
This is a lovely, light summery palette – many of the shadows here could be used as transition shades or for a light touch of eye shadow. Again a dark chocolate brown has been included (why?), a lovely blue or pale grey would have been better OR a darker purple. Still, a pretty palette.
You should be designing palettes!
Oh, I like the palette! I think it s quite nice for lights blondes.
Yay!!
I bought this and I’m not having much luck with these shadows even with primer. They barely show up on me.
What skin tone do you have, Kirsten?
I’m pale with freckles, but my eyelids have a lot of veins darkening them. I tried it with both UD and Too Faced primers and layering extra shadow, but the veins still show pretty prominently. It’s almost like these are watercolor paints on me. They look gorgeous in the palette though!
Thank you!!
Hmmm yeah, the shades are very soft and light indeed… I like some contrast as well, so this is definitely not the palette for me.
Totally understand the need for more contrast!
Sounds great, I’d need this! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, Gauri!
I really like this, but I think Secret Boudoir, Whitewashed, and Walking in the Sand would look too similar on my skin. 🙁 It’s sad because it’s the first “neutrals” (ish) palette that I’ve really fallen in love with at first sight.
Aww! 🙁
I wanted Swell to be good but I’m so disappointed!
Awww!
I’m pale, but I prefer bolder colors. I was intrigued by this at first, but I don’t think i’d be reaching for it much if I owned it.
I can totally see that!
