GREAT – I just placed an order last week, in hopes of having a product in time for my sis in law’s birthday (which was yesterday….so much for THAT idea, though I totally understand that they are overwhelmed with orders). Oh well….

Joy! My husband’s business is so slow I’ve just been buying necessities, and our fridge decided to give up the ghost on Friday as well. I knew this sale was coming of course, but life doesn’t always work out the way you expect it to. Good things come to those who wait!

Ana Maria Avatar

I’m quite surprised they are still doing the sale. I don’t have any next short/medium term need… but the current situation will go on for months, so I think I might be forced to do some shopping more in advanced then usual. I assume that in the next 2-3 months both Sephora and the manufacturers will have restricted stocks, with low priority on producing more.

I’m in Australia and our Sephora kits tend to be rather lackluster in comparison to yours. I settled on the Skinceuticals mineral sunscreen which I’m very happy with.

I had planned to get some staples, like foundation and concealer, during this sale, but since I haven’t worn makeup in nearly a month and it doesn’t seem likely I will be able to go anywhere for at least another month, minimum, my stash will probably last a lot longer than I had anticipated.

At the same time I am feeling a strong urge to buy a bunch of stuff that I realistically do not need just to add some interest to my incredibly boring life. So we’ll see. Stay safe, everyone!

I haven’t worn any makeup since March 18th, and sure don’t need anything. However, I’m going to get that Dyson Corrale for $100 off. I’ve been wanting and resisting buying it for the past month waiting for my 20% off.

I’ve been putting off buying staples months waiting for this sale but now that it’s here I’m so broke I don’t know what I’ll end up buying. If I had my regular income I’d totally stock up on MUFE Full Cover concealer, TO niacinamide and peptide serum but now… Maybe one of each if I can afford it? I’ll skip the Hourglass mascara, Stila liquid eyeliner, Brow Wiz and KA concealer I’d been wanting. They’re all products I’ve love-loved and used up but can manage without.

I wish they would offer a rain check on the sale but I won’t hold my breath on Sephora doing something like that. ?

I couldn’t agree more, I’m turned off by the decision to run the same lousy discount. Not a single person on Sephora’s marketing team said, “Maybe we should do something different/better to entice people to continue to spend? Especially considering many are/will be limited on disposable income.” Its arrogant knowing their sales are suffering like every “non-essential” business across the country. I’ve received countless emails from different beauty, makeup, clothing, accessory retailers offering huge discounts I’ve never seen before in an effort to continue to generate sales with loyal customers. It just grinds my gears, especially when I spend thousands at Sephora annually. Okay that’s the end of my rant!:)

MGH Avatar

I whole heartily agree with you and Jillian. Why would anyone want to the 15% or 20% off from Sephora (this is my third year of NOT being Rouge and first year NOT being VIP) when brands are having better sales/discounts? I stocked up a couple weeks ago from Nordstrom/Saks/Neiman Marcus had 25% off every (Chanel not included). Bobbi Brown is having 25% off everything now.

Sephora’s marketing team needs to do better for everyone if they want to stay in the game. Folks are going to be more conscience with their money now especially since so many are out of work and it will be months or years before the economy is recovered.

Naomi Avatar

I agree with you, but Sephora would have to be hitting rock bottom for them to start giving deeper discounts to the majority of their customers, since people are still shopping from them despite not being pleased with their discounts or rewards program, myself included. I think the reason for this is a lot people are apprehensive about shopping directly with brands. I have no problem shopping from other retailers like Nordstrom or Beautylish because I know that they are reputable and offer great customer service. I feel like brands have weird return policies and are overall intimidating.

i’m down to 10% this year and i would never use that esp. as i can get a higher discount from the brand’s actual website… like why did they think this year and this time especially they can continue offering the same old sale when sales are low everywhere and not try anything new to pique our interests or stand out from the competition wow the arrogance. hopefully, ulta will send me a 20% at least they don’t discriminate by doing this god awful tier system that I’m sick of.

Beth Avatar

Normally, I would have placed a large order. But with the uncertainty in the economy, I didn’t feel comfortable doing it. I hope all of our decisions to decrease spending doesn’t affect Temptalia too much since I am assuming that is where much of the website revenue comes from. I did buy the tatcha sunscreen, Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter, and l’occitane hand lotion. I hardly ever see those go on sale elsewhere. I almost bought a whole bunch more eyeliners (urban decay and marc jacobs), but I don’t need them and, like others have commented, they can be found for better discounts elsewhere.

Hopefully we get back to normal life soon.

Does anyone know if Nars’ Impassioned blush is being discontinued? I had it in my Sephora bag (and the site said they had only a few left), but it sold out before the sale and it’s not even listed as an out of stock option. Ulta doesn’t have it either. Nordstrom and the Nars website do; I’m trying to figure out if I need to buy it before its gone or its just not going to be at Sephora and Ulta (where I have sales and points)

Liz Avatar

I’m excited that we have something to look forward to with this sale. And I’m thinking the other way- it’s good they still offered the sale despite the fact that their revenue has to be down unbelievably and may well continue that way. Hard to imagine things changing that vastly any time soon until there’s a vaccine. Every store in the mall was hanging on by a thread as it was and I imagine all these stores are really hit by this like everything is. Even when we do get to out hopefully some time in the next couple months, it’s going to have to be with masks and so how much of the face can you see with that? I don’t see folks buying a ton of makeup any time soon so it’s good they have this sale. No other store can match this sale on nearly every luxury makeup you can think of (except a couple like Chanel) all under one roof and free expedited shipping (for $15 all year) under normal circumstances, pandemic delivery excluded. I hope all the places we love to shop at and buy makeup can hang on along with all the other businesses in this new world we are now in until there’s a vaccine.

Is it true that Sephora just laid all their part time staff off right after telling them they’d take care of them? I’ve seen some tweets that make me uncomfortable continuing to support them when companies like Nordstrom have tried to do right by their employees.

Here is Sephora’s communication to consumers about that: https://community.sephora.com/t5/Customer-Support/COVID-19-UPDATE-3-31-20/td-p/5250306

This Reddit thread had some comments from employees (presumably): https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/fslv2j/sephora_usa_just_massfired_all_parttime_employees/

I know Nordstrom has started to furlough employees but will continue to pay benefits through May (last I read) – unclear how many are affected and how many at corporate vs. within stores. Sephora appears to be paying effectively 80% wages + 100% benefits for all of the full-time staff through May (per their FAQ, those who were laid off were not receiving health care). Both furloughed and laid off employees can apply for unemployment benefits as far as I’ve understood!

Here’s a write-up from Washington Post about furloughs and lay offs: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/04/03/unemployed-coronavirus-faq/?arc404=true

And one from Refinery29: https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/04/9638372/what-is-furlough-meaning-coronavirus

I was close to not maintaining Rouge Status last year but did. I would have stocked up on Curly Girl products which I began using last year. But they have not worked that well for me. With being in a COVID hot spot with cold weather, I don’t wash my hair that often, and my bird’s nest prone hair just laughs at the products. I decided to splurge on the Wild Ginger metallic since WG is one of my faves and I did not back it up. And also try the IDK Anti-Social. Recommends for baby fine, dry, easily tangled hair welcome.

I placed an order on April 2nd and just got it on Tuesday (13th) which is insanely long, I do consider the circumstances but WOW it took over a week just to ship.
Anyways… I didn’t even realize the sale was coming and spent $400 on replacements (I am luckily still at work so I still do my makeup everyday!).
I do have a few more items I didn’t purchase earlier that I think I’m going to get now and some new things I want to try.
My list is:
-Fenty Beauty Cream Bronzer (I’m looking forward to trying it!)
-RMS Uncover up foundation (I got a sample of it and really enjoy it)
-Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Powder
-Patrick Ta Brow Shaping wax (If it comes in stock…it says coming soon on Sephora Canada)
-Patrick Ta Brow Brush
