Sephora Spring 2014 Mirror Colorful Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Sephora Lunar Eclipse (98) Colorful Eyeshadow
For spring, Sephora added four new Mirror finish eyeshadows to their already-massive Colorful Eyeshadow range. These are very… un-spring-like in a way, as three of the shades are darker and smokier than the pastels we typically see during the season, so it’s a refreshing set of shades. Looking at the other shades that existed previously, they’re good choices to help round out the colors with this finish. The Mirror finish is supposed to be highly pigmented with “the highest possible shine.” Sephora’s Colorful eyeshadow formula boasts a 10-hour wear time with “an ultrasmooth, blendable texture.”
Sephora Lunar Eclipse (98) Colorful Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a gold-leaning pewter with a sparkling, metallic finish. It had fairly good color payoff, and the texture was almost cream-like and applied smoothly overall. It wore well for almost nine hours and had almost no fall out over time. bareMinerals Golden Pear (LE, $14.00) is less metallic. Dior Constellation (864) #2 (LE) is lighter, less golden. MAC Greenluxe #3 (P) is less sparkly. MAC Antique Diamond (P, $18.50) is a cream. Giorgio Armani #1 Spring 2012 #4 (LE) is lighter. Giorgio Armani #19 (LE, $33.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches or view The Dupe List.
Planet Earth (99) Colorful Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with green and gold micro-sparkle and a metallic sheen. It had more of a neutral undertone–not quite cool, not quite warm. It had nice pigmentation, and it applied smoothly. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me with very minor fall out. Ulta Sage (P, $10.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Mildew (P, $18.00) is warmer. MAC Unsurpassable (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Greensmoke (DC, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches or view The Dupe List.
Across the Universe (100) Colorful Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a smoky, navy blue with lighter, brighter blue sparkle and shimmer and a pearly sheen. They can’t all be winners, and this one was a miss–the texture was drier, stiffer, and the resulting color payoff was semi-sheer to semi-opaque. It seemed to fade faster than the other shades as I could see some fading and some fall out after seven hours. Giorgio Armani Blue Beetle (34) (LE, $33.00) is lighter, brighter. Makeup Geek Ocean Breeze (P, $5.99) is more muted. Sugarpill Magpie (P, $12.00) is brighter. bareMinerals Controversy (LE) is lighter. See comparison swatches or view The Dupe List.
Star-Crossed Lovers (103) Colorful Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and larger pink micro-glitter and a metallic sheen. It had good color payoff, but it seemed to have chunkier glitter than the other three, so I had some noticeable fall out by the eighth hour, though the color itself seemed to do well for nine hours. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #12 (P, $9.99) is less sparkly, darker. MAC Da Bling (P, $15.00) is less sparkly, more muted. Make Up For Ever #24E (P, $20.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches or view The Dupe List.

Nice! They look promising and beautiful in the pan especially Across The Universe 🙁 Sephora has really stepped up their shadow game. Wish it was available in Manila, PH tho!
I wish Across the Universe wasn’t so dry!
Planet Earth looks amazing! I can never resist a khaki eyeshadow :). My next pick would’ve been Across the Universe, too bad it sucks :).
Yeah, such a bummer!
every time i see a pretty navy eyeshadow, i hope that it knocks my socks off. alas, i always end up disappointed 🙁
the Planet Earth colour is quite nice, though!
It can be tough to find a good navy!
I’m loving the whole eye look Christine!
Thank you, Melinda!
Oooh, I’m in love with Lunar Eclipse. It’s dazzling! How similar do you think it is to MAC’s Mega Metal in Dalliance? Because I always regretted not getting that.
I remember Dalliance being a bit cooler-toned.
Thank you! I think I’ll be picking up Lunar Eclipse soon then 😀
I wonder why they look so flaky and not smooth in the swatches? Did you feel flakiness or grittiness?
No flakiness or grittiness, but they’re very sparkly.
Those first two colors… LOVE!
I love a pewter <3
Star-Crossed Lovers & Planet Earth look lovely!!
They’re both very nice!
Too bad about Across the Universe, I’m looking for a shadow with a similar look 🙁
I know 🙁 So sad.
I love this finish, so I’m excited to see new colors. But I’m disappointed about the blue, since it was the most vivid/saturated sort of color in the pan.
I was bummed, too, since the others were quite consistent!
Yay, I’m glad Planet Earth delivers! It’s my favorite shade of the bunch 🙂
Woohoo!
Aww, why is the blue shadow always the dud?! I kid, I kid. 😛 But it is a shame the Across the Universe didn’t really bring much to the party.
Planet Earth and Lunar Eclipse are lovely – the look you did is rogue-worthily mysterious!
It was so weird because the others were really consistent on all points, but then Across the Universe was a huge miss!
I really love the first two shades! I’m planning a Sephora haul right now, so I might add them both to my list!
Can’t wait to hear what you haul later this week 😉
These are GORGEOUS, especially Lunar Eclipse and Planet Earth. Sephora is doing an amazing job with a lot of their eye shadows and eye makeup generally. I’ll be picking up the first 2 shades and possibly the blue one also (though I’ve got that amazing blue in the Vice2 palette that seems a bit similar and which I’ve hardly used at all – I have to remember to use these shadows more).
I know, right? What’s REALLY crazy to me is that they’ve created some more unique shades – and not just one – but several.
Loved Planet earth! But then again all the shades are really pretty!!!!
I love that it’s a more neutral green!
Oh my gosh, Star-Crossed Lovers and Across The Universe are going on my shopping list as well. Sephora is killing me with these. I said I wasn’t going to buy anything new for a while. Ugh!
They’ve done a really lovely job with this range!
The first two colors are my favorite. I can definitely see myself using Planet Earth on my outer lid for a pop of color.
Such a pretty shade!
Lunar Eclipse! *makes wondrous eyes*
I’ve probably said this a dozen times already, but I /love/ it when eyeshadows are sparkly in a way that makes them almost — flakey? Like, instead of uniform glitter, they look like someone’s torn a bit of gold or silver leaf into tiny, tiny pieces. My heart!
I know exactly what you mean, Rae!
oooh! those are pretty! I’m not sure that deep teal is for me and if the pink has carmine I can’t use it but I’m going to have to go and check it out. The silver taupe and the greenish gold are on my want list right now and the pink, too, so long as it won’t make my eyes go as pink as the shadow!
I hope it doesn’t have carmine! Fingers crossed.
Planet Earth is a gorgeous color! Definitely going to pick this one up.
Woohoo! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it, Marisa.
