Sephora Snakeskin Dress (02) EyeshadowSephora Snakeskin Dress (02) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “shimmering golden khaki.” It’s a warm, olive green with a golden olive shimmer-sheen. It has a frosted finish and brown undertones. Urban Decay Jealous is lighter and greener. Urban Decay Mildew is greener and less golden. Tarina Tarantino Dandy Lion is very similar in color but less frosted. Inglot #419 is more olive, less green/yellow. Le Metier de Beaute Chameleon is more olive, way less green.

Applied dry, it has a more frosted finish and is a touch powdery, but the overall color payoff is good. Applied damp, it went on more smoothly and resulted in a softer frost finish with a stronger sheen. It seemed about as pigmented use either way. I tested this shade yesterday, and it wore well for a full ten hours–no fading or creasing–without primer, which is the time Sephora claimed. The texture was soft, smooth, and just a smidgen powdery.  Snakeskin Dress applied well with good color payoff, easy blending, and looked even and smooth on the lid.

The new, reformulated Sephora eyeshadows are also designed to be used in palettes, and each compact has a small indent where a key fits into it in order to lift out the pan and place it into the palette. It’s easy to get the pans in and out without nicking the edges, and the palettes have the same indentation, so you can transfer to and from with the same level of ease. I think these are a bit higher priced than I’d expect, though you get more eyeshadow than the average pan (0.07 oz. vs. 0.05 oz.).  I wish they sold the pans separately, too, because then for those who don’t care about having a pot, they wouldn’t have to pay for it either.

OOOO this shade has my name written ALL OVER it!!! I just found out Sephora in France carries these already as well. I’m going to wait till you’ve reviewed some to make my shopping list 😉

Although I am rather horrified at the idea of wearing a snakeskin dress- what a gorgeous color! If I didn’t have Dandylion I would get this. The Sephora girls were pushing these pretty hard and some of the greens I saw got me really excited, particularly one that looked like a greener version of Nars Tropic >swoon<

I agree — TT’s Dandy Lion is the only one that I think is really similar… otherwise, drool over this kind of color! I’m going in order, but greens/blues are soon!

(Laughs out loud!) Id think you’d remember Dianne Von Furstenburgs iconic jersey wrap dresses- One from the first season was a python print. Fabric with snake print abounds, I had a Chanel style suit made in white denim with python printed on it. In The Eighties, it stopped traffic! Yes, an actual snakeskin dress would be impossible the leather’s so delicate- but it was still a HUGE Fashion Moment.

Lots of strange make up names have huge significance in fashion and pop culture history. People who design make up are into it all.

They have really upped their game and have some amazing products. Their chubby liner pencils (I think they’re called Jumbo Liners) are so excellent. They look like the UD 24/7 Shadow Pencils but with the Sephora ones, you can actually blend them and yet they are crease-proof and long wearing. And they cost about half what the UD pencils cost. Their new Prisma Chroma shadows are also outstanding. I’m looking forward to Christine’s reviews of more of these shadows.

I was at Sephora this morning and swatched this in-store and I love it but need to check your dupes to see if it’s too close to stuff I already have (and need to make use of! Yeesh – my shadow collection is beyond “out of hand”). I wish I could have remembered the other shadows you’d used (besides Animal Instinct) to check them out too.

Ha – well, no wonder I liked it so much – you’ve commented on how similar it is to TT’s Dandy Lion and MAC Sumptuous Olive, both of which I love (and, obviously, have).

Oooh pretty. I luvs me some olive! But I have to confess when I heard the name I was hoping this might be a dupe for Rock&Republic Snakeskin eye colour but sadly this seems much greener, less complex of a color.

The new MAC palettes could potentially fit these, since you don’t need a divider, but the pans are bigger than a regular MAC pan.

I think they’re offering the palette for free when you buy some of the shadows – buy 2 and get the 3-pan free; buy 4 or 5 and get the 6 pan free. At least, this seems to be the deal here in Canada, where everything costs way more (there was an expose about this on a tv consumer program the other night and it has very little to do with shipping costs, as most of us knew already). Okay, rant over – but, as I say, they seem to be offering some special deal just now, which is nice.

Yeah, they’re having that at the moment – not sure if it’s going to continue forever, and it was a little annoying to read you can only get it once per order — I think for most people, that’s fine, but it’s still a little dig that I was like, “hmm.” At least with Sephora, the free shipping threshold isn’t so high, so even if you made multiple orders, you’d probably be all right.

Nice to see Sephora stepping it up! I always liked their lipstick line but found their eyeshadows to be hit or miss. Glad to see that’s changing!

This is a really gorgeous color! Not something I’d typically wear, but I think there’s enough of a balance between the khaki and green to work on my face. I’ll have to put it on the want list. 😀

Given the choice between MAC and Sephora I will go with MAC the quality it better and Sephora eyeshadows cost the as much as MAC which I am having a little problem with, anytime a store brand charges as much as a brand name bothers me because rarely do you get the same quality.

I do think these are priced a little high myself, but MAC is $15 (potted eyeshadow) and 0.05 oz. – these are $13 and 0.07 oz.! The quality is fantastic in this particular shade (better than many MAC eyeshadows), though 🙂
