Sephora Overcast Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Sephora Overcast Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette
Sephora Overcast Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00 for 0.398 oz.) consists of ten eyeshadows, with two being oversized compared to the remaining eight. Two shades (Sandcastle and Black Lace) are available in Sephora’s permanent line-up but the others are exclusive to the palette. Sephora’s Colorful Eyeshadow formula is supposed to “provide superior color, coverage, and long-lasting wear (up to 10 hours)” and be “exceptionally easy to apply.” I quite like the Colorful Eyeshadow formula (not every shade is a winner, of course!), but they tend to be nicely pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. This is another decent to good palette, but it’s not stellar and most shades are rather dupable, depending on your stash, of course. I found more of the shades in this palette to be slightly powdery, which resulted in sheerer color payoff.
#happydays is a golden peach with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth, and blendable consistency that wasn’t too powdery or too firm. Disney by Sephora Splendid (LE, ) is more shimmery. bareMinerals Ball Gown (V2) (P, ) is lighter. theBalm #7 (P, $6.50) is darker. Tarte Rose Champagne (LE, ) is darker. Flagstone is a light, muted beige with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was a smidgen on the powdery side, though it didn’t look dry on the lid, and was rather blendable. It had semi-opaque pigmentation and lasted for eight hours on me. bareMinerals 500 Thread Count (LE, ) is darker. MAC Chamomile (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer. theBalm Wipe Out (LE, $16.00) is darker. Disney by Sephora A Wish (LE, ) is darker. MAC Oh, Rocky! (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker. Viseart Souris (P, ) is darker, more muted. Laura Mercier Cloud (LE, $22.00) is darker. ColourPop Tink (P, $5.00) is more shimmery, darker. Kat Von D Dios (LE, ) is more shimmery. Sephora Overcast Filter Colorful Eyeshadow Palette
As I have mentioned in my comments for the Sun Bleached palette, I bought both although the Overcast palette is the one I initially wanted and the one I prefer. I love muted, cool colors and in some ways this was the pleasant surprise I was looking for after the huge (and expensive) disappointment of the Laura Mercier Watercolor palette. After that fiasco, LM is now added to my ever-growing list of brands with which I am done. Yet Sephora keeps coming out with some nice products (Made in Italy!) at a fair price point.
How funny how it worked out 😉
Getaway looks like such an interesting, unusual color in the swatch! It’s too bad it performs so poorly. If it didn’t, I would almost be tempted to get this palette just for that one shade.
If only 🙁
Glad this got a decent rating! I have dupes for a couple of the shades, but might still pick it up for my travel kit.
It could be good for travel!
I feel the same about this palette as I did about the “sunny” version: cool idea but the end result didn’t turn out to be very exciting. I hate June Gloom weather so much that I wouldn’t wear that shade either, lol!
Awwwww!
I prefer my shadows to be bolder and bright/cheery, but I like how the cool and muted colors go with the overcast theme. It’s not a great palette, but it’s decent, especially for Sephora, and it sure beats the Too Faced Selfie Filter one and that Laura Mericer Mist palette
Totally agree — way better than the TF Selfie palette!
Good on Sephora. This and the daylight filter one seem as good or better than what the brand-names are bringing out.
They are cool!
I really like this palette! It is pretty dupable for me. I can’t easily think of something for Cozy Sweater though. But , I think I’d rather add the mufe dupe to my collection. Since I have a lot of those. So,I put S404 on my wish list! Love the dupe lists!
Woohoo! 😀
Hmmmm….not as bad as I expected. Not my favorite, but definitely not the worst palette I’ve seen this year. And I have seen an extraordinary amount of bad products this year.
I actually like the look you did with this. Very soft & understated, which is not something I’ve seen for a long time.
LOL! There have been quite a few duds this year already… I fear for holiday.
Oh how I wish Berlin Underground was a stand-alone! I can’t find any matte dove gray shadows anywhere!
They are hard to find!
Christine, I’m going to check these out at the Beauty Before Brunch event this Sunday and was wondering: which is your favorite of the two? Sunbleached or Overcast?
Overcast!
Sighhh I still can’t decide if I want one of these or both, and if just one, then which one. I’ve been on a no-buy for so long, but this… I don’t have dupes for most of the shadows in this one, and I don’t really have dupes for many of the Sunbleached shades. Like, yeah, similar shades, but not dupes. Probably this would be the wiser buy that I would use more, since I’m a cool-toned guy, but the Sunbleached one is just. so. summery. At the same time, I was hoping to save my $50 sephora gift card from Christmas until their holiday sale to get more bang for my buck. Decisions, decisions.
Thank you for the swatches and review! I’ve been waiting since these palettes were first revealed to see what your thoughts were. 🙂
No problem, Gabriel! 🙂
Oh, question: is it really true that these are permanent?
I don’t get info from Sephora’s press department, but on Sephora’s site, they aren’t listed as LE.
Very interesting palette. The shades do have some really dupable shades, but the whole thing put together has something very different about it. Idk, just an unusual and unexpected grouping of colors. Not sure how I feel about it.
It is an interesting set of shades!
A thunderstorm! It reminds me of how things look outside when a severe thunderstorm is approaching!
Berlin Underground could have been a great grey colour – but it just looks murky – a shame. As you have said Christine – these colours are dupable and overall I am not a fan of this palette. Way too matte for me.
It could be better!
I could swear Berlin Underground used to be available as a single. I guess it was discontinued, sucks for such a pretty shade!
Oh nooo! 🙁
I believe Berlin Underground is also a part of Sephora’s permanent line-up? I have it as a single.
Another reader just mentioned it, but Sephora didn’t note that one as permanent!
…I kind of just want it for Berlin Underground. (DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD A GOOD MATTE GREY IS TO FIND?)
A definite challenge!
Not calling my name, this one. Which is good news for my wallet of course.
Yay for your wallet 🙂
Little by little I’m coming around to the Sephora brand. Maybe to the point of actually owning one of their products someday lol. I’ve become convinced that they have decent brushes and I’ve just been good enough to resist… And I know their liners are pretty good and I think some glosses or lippies… And the set of palettes was super interesting for real! Thanks for reviewing, Christine!
lol! They have some gems in the line-up — not everything is amazing, but there are some good formulas and shades in their massive range.
Sephora sometimes delivers such an incredible value for money!
They really can!
Hmm the swatches look rather nice. Wasn’t expecting it, since I do have a palette from Sephora and the payoff isn’t quite as good 😛 Not complaining given the very reasonable price point, however!
What palette from Sephora do you have? They have so many – definitely not universally great!
