Sephora 5th Avenue (03) & Diving in Malaysia (18) Contour Eye Pencils Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Sephora 5th Avenue (03) Contour Eye Pencil
Sephora 5th Avenue (03) Contour Eye Pencil ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “gray.” It’s a dark gray with subtle brown undertones and a matte finish. It had decent color payoff in one layer, but it was very buildable in two layers to opaque color. It wore well for ten hours, and then was somewhat faded (thinner) after eleven hours of wear–it was still visible after the full twelve hours, but it was definitely not exactly as it looked when initially applied. Urban Decay Smoke is similar. bareMInerals 11PM has a slightly satin finish. Bobbi Brown Smoke is less warm-toned–cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.
Diving in Malaysia (18) Contour Eye Pencil ($9.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “black green.” It’s a deep, dark brown with flecks of olive sparkle. It had so-so color payoff in a single stroke, but it was buildable to more opaque color. It wore well for ten hours on me without fading, migrating, or smudging; but after twelve hours, it was noticeably thinner. Urban Decay Demolition has no shimmer. MAC Rich Experience is more matte. MAC Lord It Up is lighter, warmer. MAC Orpheus is lighter. See comparison swatches.
I really love these eyeliners, even though they don’t wear the full twelve hours that Sephora claims (wish they claimed something more reasonable!), as they do wear quite well for eight to ten hours, have great consistencies that aren’t too creamy, not too waxy, and come in a variety of shades. Plus, they’re priced just right!

Oh yah a dupe for 11PM!
These look so awesome and this sephora gift card is burning a hole in my pocket! (:
How would you compare these the the MUFE Aqua Eyes pencils? The MUFE ones are my favourite for wear time, but I am looking for a cheaper version.
They both wear about the same on me – like marginally longer or shorter depending on the shade but both formulas are long-wearing for me!
So happy I saw this review, because I’ve been looking for a taupe-y eyeliner like 5th Ave and for the price I’m sold.
There are so many colours in this line that you might find something even more “taupe”. Honestly, these pencils are fantastic. In Canada, they’re $11 (what else is new) but still several dollars LESS than my previous drug-store favourite, GOSH.
Yes I like my GOSH shades I have but really the markup for them in Canada seems very shewed. 😉
9 dollars? not bad! love the grey
I’ve had Driving in Malaysia for months and use it almost daily. I absolutely LOVE this pencil.
5th Avenue looks kind of good!
I’m not much on eye pencils, but this one looks like it might be good for a quick and easy “Idiot Eyes” design.
Love those gray-browns!
Wow! Both of these colors look so clearly brown to me that I am wondering if I’m colorblind, or my iPad has somehow switched into some sort of weird screen resolution.
On another note: Christine, how do you feel this wear compares to Urban Decay pencil liners? I’m not sure if they’ve changed their formula or its the heat, but mine have been smudging after a few hours lately. I’m hunting for new options!
These actually wear a bit longer on me, but they’re similar – I’d say it depends on the shade! 🙂
5th Ave looks cool
Diving in Malaysia looks gorgeous!
5th avenue actually looks more pigmented than smoke, and the price is great! I think ill have to check some of these out.
I never have Sephora eye pencil before… HHmm.. I migh just by the diving in Malaysia just because I am a Malaysian and it have my country name on it. 🙂
Ooh , I have diving in Malaysia polish and love it. I’d really love the pencil!
I love both of these shades! I had been skipping the eyeliner for most of this year, but I’ve been getting back into it recently! I will have to take a look at these the next time I’m in Sephora.
Since Diving In Malaysia (the polish) is a Chanel Peridot dupe, I was hoping the eyeliner version would be a little more duochromey-flashy.
