Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-Lasting Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
Rouge Bunny Rouge Angelic Cockatiels Long-Lasting Eyeshadow
Rouge Bunny Rouge Angelic Cockatiels Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “metallic finish golden honey.” It’s a muted, light-medium copper brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft and blendable, but it was drier and dusty to work with, so it was more prone to sheering out on the skin. The color wore well for seven hours before fading noticeably. Buxom Bold Bling (P, $12.00) is darker. Hourglass Exposure #3 (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler. ColourPop La-La (LE, $5.00) is brighter, warmer. Laura Mercier Rosegold (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter. Sleek MakeUP Scheherazade’s Tale (LE, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Rouge Bunny Rouge Whispering Ibis Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “rich iridescent fern-green with gold pearl.” It’s a soft, sage green with subtle, warmer undertones and a frosted finish. It had great pigmentation, but the texture was drier and powdery, which made it harder to apply with the same intensity as once you blended the color, it sheered out. It started to fade after seven hours of wear. L’Oreal Golden Emerald (P, $7.99) is more shimmery, darker. Milani Bella Emerald (18) (P, $4.49) is brighter, warmer. Sephora Collection Hidden Treasure (114) (LE, $13.00) is warmer. Inglot #418 (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer. ColourPop Empire (P, $5.00) is brighter, cooler. Anastasia Emerald (P, $12.00) is darker, warmer. Make Up For Ever D306 Bottle Green (P, $21.00) is brighter, warmer. Sleek MakeUP Fauna (P, $9.99) is lighter, warmer. MAC Silver Sun (P, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Ulta Sage (P, $10.00) is lighter, warmer. Sephora Collection Rolling in the Grass (10) (P, $13.00) is more shimmery, brighter, warmer. Fyrinnae Boot Season (P, $6.80) is warmer. NARS Night Porter (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Mysterious Tinamou Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark blue with a pearly sheen. The texture was drier, thinner, and more powdery compared to most of the shades I’ve tried from the range. It had decent color payoff, but it didn’t adhere well to the skin unless applied with fingertips (so you can really press it against the skin). It faded in less than six hours. bareMinerals Controversy (LE, ) is darker. ColourPop Coconut (P, $5.00) is more shimmery, darker, brighter. Lancome My French #8 (LE, ) is darker. Sephora Collection Stormy Seas (113) (LE, $13.00) is more shimmery, darker. Ulta Teal (P, $10.00) is lighter. Giorgio Armani #18 (P, $32.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever ME230 Peacock Blue (P, $21.00) is darker. MAC Beehive Blue (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. L’Oreal Timeless Blue Spark (760) (P, $7.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Urban Decay Madness (LE, $18.00) is brighter. Giorgio Armani Blue Beetle (34) (LE, $33.00) is more shimmery, cooler. Urban Decay Haight (P, $18.00) is darker, brighter. Urban Decay Unhinged (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Dior Blue Lagoon (374) Eyeshadow #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Trumpeter Koel Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “dark lead-grey with lilac-blue iridescence.” It’s a muted, dark gray with a cool, bluish tint and a satin finish. It was powdery with a dusty texture that looked dry on the skin and was prone to sheering out. It had semi-opaque coverage as long as you patted it on and didn’t touch it. The color started to fade after six and a half hours of wear. Chanel Gris Exquis (LE, $29.50) is darker. Urban Decay Dagger (P, $18.00) is darker. Urban Decay Slanted (P, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer. ColourPop Lovey Dovey (LE, $5.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Kat Von D Dios (LE, ) is lighter, more muted. Too Faced Chimney (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer. Chanel Fascination #3 (P, ) is darker. MAC Thunder and Rain #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker. Disney by Sephora Flotsam (LE, ) is darker. theBalm Matt McDonald (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Golden Rhea Eyeshadow ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “iridescent pale gold.” It’s a muted, light-medium yellow gold with a frosted sheen. It had good color coverage with a soft, blendable consistency that was just slightly dusty. It lasted for almost eight hours. Chanel L’Intemporel de Chanel #1 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted. MAC Lithe (LE, $21.00) is darker, warmer. Guerlain Petrouchka #2 (LE, ) is darker, warmer. Anastasia Legend (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Make Up For Ever S506 Linen (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. Tarina Tarantino Taurella (LE, ) is lighter. theBalm D1 (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. Chanel Pearl River #2 (LE, ) is lighter. Makeup Geek Rapunzel (P, $5.99) is less shimmery. Cle de Peau Champagne Supernova #1 (P, ) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: It is supposed to be a “lightweight” powder eyeshadow with “unprecedented adherence” that has “8-hour wear.” They’re available in individual compacts at $25 each, but the brand offers them in pan-only form (simple metal pan, same size as the compact version, just stripped of the plastic compact) for $19 through their website. Overall, the formula has a very soft texture that can get powdery or feel a little dry and dusty (depending on the finish/shade), so they are more prone to sheering out on bare skin. The wear is decent but rarely hits the eight-hour mark (without primer), though it isn’t significantly below the eight-hour wear time (six to seven hours), and it should wear longer over your favorite primer. They are blendable with semi-opaque to opaque color payoff.

Oh yay, thank you for this! I’ve been contemplating getting Whispering Ibis and Golden Rhea for a while, so I’m glad those two are rated pretty decently. 🙂
Happy to help! 🙂
Oh no! I can see how the shadows sheer out on your lid and look really patchy and faded 🙁 I was really falling in love with the blue (Mysterious Tinamou), so pretty and complex, but heartbroken over the score, will be checking out the L’Oreal dupe. And the green (Whispering Ibis), too. Will be checking out Milani Bella Emerald instead. BTW, I got Milani Bella Khaki based your review, and it is awesome!! A dupe for Hourglass and lasted +12 hours, with primer, on my oily lids, no creasing or fading. And BOGO 50% off. So thrilled!!! .
I think the L’Oreal shade is quite similar, IMO!
BOGO! Absolutely! Dupes are great! 😀
Nice to see you reviewing another brand I’ve been curious about! I’ve been tempted to get something from the brand for a while, but have been hesitant. Will you be reviewing any other products from them? I know there are a few that are more talked about, like the highlighting liquid.
Sorry, I only bought a powder highlighter and their eyeshadows!
Hey Christine, thanks for the review! I have a bunch of RBR eyeshadows, but none of the shades you’ve featured here! You should really really lay your hands on Abyssinian Catbird and Rufous-Tailed Weaver!
I really didn’t like these much, so I don’t see buying any more shades at this time 🙁 I do have Rufous-Tailed Weaver, though, but it’s dusty and dry!
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear that, as I truly adore the shades I own!
I really wanted to love them 🙁 You have no idea how excited I was about them!
First post I have read since Girl’s Weekend. I’m having a slow day. LOL.
I purchased a four RBR eyeshadows a couple of years ago, and I didn’t fall in love with the formula. I found them dry and difficult to work with. I have not purchased more since.
Hope you had a good weekend, Wendy, but something tells me no doubt that you did 😉
Well, at least that makes two of us, haha. If they had been powdery in the sense that they were so finely-milled and silky, that they kicked up some excess powder (like Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes/Powders), it wouldn’t be so bad, but they actually had a drier/dustier feel to me.
Gorgeous eye again! I’m not too impressed by these but I like their names! 🙂
Thanks, Lotus! Would be gorgeous if everything worked right, haha.
Haha.. Still IS gorgeous! You did well! 🙂
Whispering Ibis seems to have more intricate complexities woven into its color.. Can’t tell completely because I do not own it, but I’m thinking an exact dupe would have to made by pigment mixing.. Always fun! 😀
The Kohl one.. That kind of color turns a periwinkle/Violet/lilac on me.. I’ll inspect more closely for duping. 🙂 kudos to the eye, though. So pretty!
Yay for mixing!
Right? That’s SO much FUN! 😀 Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! 🙂 Micing pigment magic post… Sounds great! Pajama party! 😛
I actually like Angelic Cockatiels more than I thought I would, it swatches a lot more golden.
It is a pretty color!
$25. a pop? For a 1990’s (or earlier!) DS quality eyeshadow? Are they kidding?!? These actually LOOK weakly pigmented and very dry! It’s a real shame too, because these shades really could’ve been lovely if RBR had done them right.
The dryness was a real bummer! It sounds like most readers have had really great experiences with RBR’s eyeshadows, so maybe mine are just bad 🙁
Sad the didn’t turn out well!
Me too!
Trumpeter Koel is gorgeous!
It’s a good concept!
My experience with RBR shadows couldn’t be more different. I have super pale skin and I need to be careful not to load on too much color. On me these are soft and buttery in the pan and beautiful and rich and long lasting on the lid. I have oily lids so I always use either the NARS or Smashbox shadow primer. I also find them ease to blend out. I also find it interesting that you love the Make Up For Ever shadows and I simply cannot get those to apply evenly or blend without looking muddy or patchy no matter what brush I use.
I’m so jealous, Tatiana! I wish these worked for me as they did you.
Well, I wish I could figure out how to make the Make Up For Ever shadows work for me, so I’m jealous they work so well for you. So many gorgeous colors. I even bought the MUFE shadow brush Sephora recommended and it just doesn’t seem to pick up the color that well.
I use MAC 239s and 242s interchangeably with them, though I’ve also used my Chikuhodo GSN-09 with them! One reader shared a tip about instead of brushing it across, but actually brush forward almost. After she said that, I noticed that I have a tendency to go more back-and-forth when I use eyeshadow (all kinds), so that might help.
Ho-leeee, Whispering Ibis isn’t just a pretty name – it’s a pretty and unique shadow. I’ve looked through all the dupes and not one of them seems especially close. If I were near a store that sold ’em (good excuse, maybe to visit older son who is stationed in Edmonton!), that’s the one I’d fall for.
That’s how you do it! The one that’s more unique 🙂
Again, pretty colors, but easily duped. The formula just doesn’t sound very good, for the most part. It seems like this is a brand where you really have to test a shade out before you buy it.
It seems like it! 🙁
That’s a beautiful look you came up with! I love the blue with a hint of green:)
Thanks, Megs!
I’ve been reading these single reviews and it seem so strange how shagered the rateing are in this brand. I’ve heard so many great things about the line, but these shadows at this price point …… O__o
Yep! It was a real variety, which made putting them together a challenge since one might work well but others would ruin the look.
Gorgeous look! But, I am feeling like I can cross this brand off my list off things to try. Not too impressive for thos price range especially.
There were only a handful of shades that were decent, but a lot of these didn’t score as poorly as they might have since the wear time was actually stated at 8 hours (which is reasonable!).
Oh Gosh! Seals the deal for me more so! What’s the point of a shadow that can’t last beyond 8 hours?! Who gets the luxury of most days being less than 8 hours. I certainly wouldn’t even bother to put on eye makeup if I had to redo it before days end. So overpriced IMO.My wallet thanks you. I thank you. I have far too many other beauty goodies I would love to place in my stash.I certainly don’t want to waste my hard earned $ on a shadow that doesn’t wear through a normal day. Thanks for reviewing. I wish you could get your$ back for these! I feel bad for you! 🙁
Love the Whispering Ibis and Mysterious Tinamou colours. They are really gorgeous, although I do have dupes for them. Your eye look is really beautiful Christine.
Again, a wide range of quality from A to D+. I am surprised that the grey turned out to be so bad, it could easily be a great colour to get right.
Thank you, Genevieve! 🙂
I love birds, but I think I’ll skip these because the quality for that price better be perfect. It’s funny to me because I’ve never known an angelic cockatiel. Mischievous, cheeky, naughty, LOUD…they’re pretty much the opposite of angelic, even if they are adorable! And I don’t think green ibises exist 🙂
No angelic Cockatiels afterall? lol!
I’m rather sad that these got bad reviews! I always had a view that RBR seems like an awesome brand.
Although, I may suggest that you did not pick the stellar items? I’ve heard some amazing things about their liquid highlighter and bronzer, that it is texturally different from almost anything on the market. And of course, Abyssinian Catbird and the mattes as some of the best eyeshadows ever.
I think I bought 20 or so items, but I’m sure it’s entirely possible I picked only the worst of the bunch! I just went with a variety of colors/finishes that were available when I was buying 🙂 IMO, at $25 a pop for an eyeshadow, all of them should be stellar.
Or it may just be the curse of the HE brand eyeshadows again! I totally agree that at $25 a pop they OUGHT to be stellar. Anything over $18., I would say should.
I had read many positive reviews of the eyeshadow but had a similar experience. Dry and not much color pay-off in one shade I purchased (Olive something). It is too bad – I like the imaginative names and was hoping to be wowed. I won’t try them again, unless perhaps they are re-formulated.
Bummer, Rachel! 🙁 Sorry to hear you had a similar experience!
Beautiful eye look, but shame about the quality of the shadows. I have one 5-pan palette of RBR shadows – I want to say it’s called Chronos? Five darker shades, at any rate. I like it but don’t love it, and have not wanted to get anything else from the brand since.
Thank you, El!
lols I have waaaay too many of these – I got most of them during RBR sales and some are definitely more sheer than I expected but then quite a few others are amazing and live in my makeup bag. I love the matte shades and really like some of the shimmers like bejewelled skylark, abyssinian catbird and alabaster starling.
Thanks for sharing your faves!
