Revlon Spun Sugar & Bordeaux Parfumerie Nail Lacquer Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Revlon Indulgent Parfumerie Set
Revlon Indulgent Parfumerie Set

Revlon Indulgent Parfumerie Set ($10.00 for 2 x 0.40 fl. oz.) includes two Parfumerie polishes–a full range of this style of scented polish will be making its way into Revlon’s permanent range, though I’ve yet to see a display locally. I think every store I’ve been into just has aisles of holiday gift sets and kits, mostly cologne and perfume, so maybe they’re holding back some of the other new products. They’re packaged like miniature-sized perfume bottles with plastic, slightly rubberized, rounded tops. Each bottle contains 0.40 fl. oz. of product, and then they are scented. The scent isn’t supposed to be noticeable until it dries down, and the scent lasts about eight hours on me. I was only able to smell it if I put my nose to my nails, otherwise it’s rather subtle and almost not there.

Spun Sugar is a metallic, light pewter–a mix of gold and silver and gray–with threads of metallic shimmer. It was mostly opaque after two coats, but there were very visible brush strokes. The consistency was a little thick but manageable. I noticed the polish dried down rather quickly (not totally unexpected, given it’s a metallic). I tested this shade for wear, and it managed seven days but had a fair amount of tip wear (more than average for me). I couldn’t think of a dupe for this one based on past polishes I’ve reviewed! It has a sweet, sugary scent.

Bordeaux is a reddish plum with a cream finish. It was opaque after two coats of polish, and the consistency was on the thinner side, but it wasn’t problematic during application. When I wore it, this shade didn’t chip for seven days but had more tip wear than I usually see after a week. It has a very fruity, grape candy scent–very synthetic and jammy. Dior Graphic Berry (LE, $24.00) is darker, cooler-toned. China Glaze Traffic Jam (LE, $8.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Guerlain Madame Batifole (860) (LE, $23.00) is slightly brighter. Chanel Suspicious (P, $27.00) is pinker. Butter London Blowing Raspberries (P, $15.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

I found this set at my local Walgreens, but I don’t think they’re available online, and I didn’t see the polishes sold alone online yet.

I generally like Revlon’s formula and feel it performs well for the price point, but this just seems very gimmicky–like something my preteen niece would enjoy. I think I’ll stick with the original.

There are some really pretty shades in this line – I’ve only tried Autumn Spice, but I might be picking up a couple more. I actually like that it’s not too scented so that it’s not annoying.

I know what you mean about the holiday sets in the drugstores. I used to work in one long ago and… I don’t think anyone ever bought them, so I’m not sure why there are so many!

This set really misses the mark for me. 1. The colors are so overdone. A metallic + red for Christmas? Unless they are really well done, I’m over that combo. 2. The finish on that red polish is really weird. I feel like it looks cheap. It’s not shiny or opaque enough.
Chrisine, what’s your favorite holiday nail polish?

I’ve heard of these polishes being sold separately at Bed, Bath and Beyond’s that have beauty sections, but I live in the sticks and the closest one is about 20 miles away. The closest store to me is Walgreens and I found this same set there. I really liked it!

So funny I see this review because I just finished painting my nails with the Autumn Spice polish! I love the formula of it. Thin coats, but very opaque and it dried rather quickly. Nice autumn-y scent. 🙂 I snagged that one and Wintermint which is a dupe for Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid Dream. I want to pick up some more polishes. I don’t mind the scents that much because they fade after a day or so, so I’m not really buying them for that purpose. I just really like most of the shades and it’s pretty affordable for me. And of course the pretty bottles!

I take it these polishes have the same “nail polish/chemical-y” smell while applying? My husband is very sensitive to the smell of the chemicals in most nail polishes, so it would be great if these didn’t make the house smell like a nail salon.

P.S -You didn’t list how many coats it took to make Bordeaux look opaque.

Finally saw some of these singly at a Meijer near me. They had two displays out on an endcap. I’ve been wanting Autumn Spice, but I held off, because I’m participating in a polish-centric gift exchange and had put that on my wishlist, haha.

I have never seen a set like this from Revlon. What a cute little packaging for the holidays. It is disappointing that the formula is a bit streaky but for two decent polishes, this isn’t a bad value. May have to pick this up!

CVS had a bunch of the singles for around $6. I bought Wintermint, a pistachio-mint green with some blue glitter flecks, and it looks just like Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream. I love this color.

I like Bordeaux, but I can’t stand red nails on myself…I always go for cool tones!
