Can You Find the Gold Shimmer in the Field of Poppies?

Rescue Beauty Lounge Poppy Nail Lacquer ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “sea of poppy fields.” It’s a bright orange-red with very, very subtle gold micro-shimmer. Essie Too Too Hot is redder. Rescue Beauty Lounge Chinoise is darker, redder. Rescue Beauty Lounge Bangin’ is a smidgen lighter, more coral. Deborah Lippmann Supermodel is a shade redder. Orly Retro Red is a ltitle lighter and more orange. MAC Scorcher is less bright, less red.

Micro-shimmer can be gorgeous, because it can look subtle, sophisticated, and add depth to an otherwise cream-like finish.  However, it can also be overpowered and lost, and I think that’s the case here (which is a personal, subjective observation that does not impact the rating).  The color is so vibrant and rich that the amount of gold micro-shimmer just fades away.  Even under bright light (like diffused flash), it’s barely detectable. Poppy was opaque in two coats, and the formula wasn’t thick at all. It had a good balance of thick and thin, so it flowed and applied beautifully and evenly.  I typically get a full week of wear with Rescue Beauty Lounge’s formula with no chipping and very minimal tip wear.

I really hate it when you see pretty shimmer in the bottle and then it disappears completely on the nail 🙁 Nice shade of red, though.

They NEED to do something about their microshimmer! It’s kind of misleading, I’m sure it’s not deliberate, but surely they must notice when they are swatching shades they’re working on. The shimmer just doesn’t show up.

BonnieSeifert It is like the hidden shimmer in Chanel polishes. It keeps cremes from looking flat but its intention is not a shimmer finish.

I have to agree with you, Christine!  The microglitter detracts from this polish to my eyes.  The little reflective bits you do see almost look like *gasp* lint!  I do not own a single red nail polish.  How weird is that?  This one will not sway me, but looking at the YSL red shade below..  on the other hand (pun intended?)…

It is a shame that the shimmer takes away from the polish.  If I can find that polish, I will still buy it because the colour itself is just lovely.  It really is a proper poppy red.

The color’s fantastic, the shimmer not so much. I prefer much stronger shimmer in my polishes, so I’d pass on this or put a shimmer/sparkle top coat over it, but I’m not sure how that would work with the faint shimmer already in the polish.
