Rescue Beauty Lounge: Au Chocolat, Atame, Moulin Rouge
Rescue Beauty Lounge: Au Chocolat, Atame, Moulin Rouge
Rescue Beauty Lounge recently held their annual 50% off sale, and I must admit, I indulged. I’ve been waiting for this sale for months (ever since buying my first RBLs). I could have sworn I saw someone mention it may be the last 50% off sale… anyway, I couldn’t resist.
The first three I want to share with you are: Au Chocolat (molten Godiva), Atame (luscious deep dried cherry red), and Moulin Rouge (think black cherries wrapped in dark chocolate).
- Au Chocolat is a deep, dark chocolate brown cream; it’s very decadent and rich. It kind of reminds me of Hershey syrup, but I suppose Godiva sounds a little nicer! In natural light, it’s more of a black-brown, while under brighter light like flash, more of the redness from the chocolate brown pulls through. Two coats.
- Atame is a sultry dark cherry burgundy cream. It initially looks rather similar to Au Chocolat–the difference is more noticeable under stronger light, because Atame turns to the dark cherry red it’s described as. Two coats.
- Moulin Rouge is deep reddened chocolate brown cream. It’s similar to Au Chocolat–there is a stronger red tone to Moulin Rouge’s base, but they look like cousins. Two coats.
All three shades featured in this post were richly pigmented, applied evenly and never streaked, and only needed two coats for full opacity. Each shade retails for $18, and due to the recent 50% off sale, many shades are sold out for the time being.

- Product: 29/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5
RECOMMENDATION: I don’t think you need all three of these, but they are nice vampier shades that lean on the red/brown side. Between Au Chocolat and Moulin Rouge, I’d definitely only opt for one or the other if you’re on a budget.

They all look so similar….
I must need a new computer screen, these colors seem so similar to each other I can barely tell them apart. But I do love those shades!
They are definitely all similar to each other — especially in natural light!
May I ask what is so special about this particular brand..I saw Oprah on their site too..!! I have never heard of this brand until people when scrambling for their sale…Its 18 $ a pop ?!
Very color-rich formula that applies smoothly and evenly. It’s just a very good formula. At $18, I tended to buy shades that seemed different than ones I owned – but at $9, well worth having any color you like!
wow..sounds interesting..maybe next time it goes on sale…
How do they compare to Chanel’s Rouge Noir nailpolish?
None of these do – http://www.temptalia.com/chanel-rouge-fatal-le-vernis-review-photos-swatches
Chanel Rouge Fatal is much lighter. You can easily see how red it is even in natural light.
Yeah I agree the only way I can tell the difference is in the flash pictures
They all look really similar , some are darker than other ,
But still great colours for fall !!
I tend to gravitate towards blues and greens when it comes to nail color so these don’t really attract me but I must admit that after finally trying RBL (and I never would have if it wasn’t on sale) this skeptic has been turned to a convert – no one does cremes like RBL can! It is pricey though and a lot of the colors are dupe-able (which is why I don’t really see myself buying a whole bunch of this stuff) but if there’s a particular color you really love I think it’s worth the investment to try the RBL version. The formula is amazing and I think RBL has the best brush in the business.
It does seem to me that Revlon Vixen and Devilish would be cheaper alternatives to these even if they are not exact dupes. I own both and they look pretty similar.
They are really hard to tell apart, but all are very pretty. I love all three of them, definitely my kind of colors for nails.
Definitely my kind of colors. 🙂 I can’t see spending that much for a nail polish, but I may have to get a couple next time they have a sale.
Hello! Thanks for the comps! Can you please compare Atame to Essie Masquerade Belle from winter collex? I need o decide if I should get Atame. They all look great on you:)
I don’t have that Essie, sorry!
I have Au Chocolat on my toes right now. RBL polishes practically apply themselves, and are worth every penny in my opinion. Nobody does cremes like them. Nobody.
These are gorgeous. I especially like Au Chocolat but its too heavy for summer.
Would these work on cool skin tones? I have such a hard time finding a brown or brown-red that works well on me. Most of them seem to be coordinated for warmer tones.
Yes, I think they would.
what a gorgeous, rich, vampy color! Love this for Fall 🙂
