Rant & Rave: Waterproof Eyeliner

Share: Tell us what you love and hate about Waterproof Eyeliner!

my answer: Sometimes formulas can be stiffer to get on, though once on, they’re locked in! I also don’t like removing them sometimes as they can be harder than regular eyeliner. They are great if you have watery eyes!

When they say they are waterproof and they aren’t! I have oily lids and wet waterline, so I know. I have found a decent # of eyeliners that will stay on my upper lash line and lower lash line with the help of strong primers, but my teflon waterline is still a challenge. For me, I’m finding that the cheapest eyeliners (Jordana 12 hour, Prestige Total Intensity, and Essence Gel ) outperform the more expensive brands (UD, Mally, Marc, IT, etc). Wish I had know that earlier!

Have you tried the Essence Long Wearing Eye Pencil (I *think* that’s the name…, or something similar!)? It’s the only one I can get to stay on my waterline, which although relatively dry, is also Teflon. Another plus is that it’s mechanical, which means no shavings to get into the eye, but the downside is the limited shades. However, at $3 a pop, it’s well worth it!

Yes, thanks! I have tried both the Essence pencils, the one that’s mechanical and the one you have to sharpen. The sharpened one will stay on my lids all day with primer, and is one of the very few that will stay on my waterline for a few hours– love it, and it’s cheap at $3 ! The Jordana 12 hour one is pretty good too! I wish I had known before, because I’ve spent a small fortune on more expensive eyeliners (sigh)

The Jordana and prestige total intensity run on me. Waterproof and water-resistant are my go to’s. Brands like UD, NYX, Milani and Rimmel also run on me. For pencils, I like sephora contour, Stila smudge sticks, tarina tarantino and tarte skinny smolder eyes for waterline. For liquid I like pens like the eyeko skinny liner. For gel pot liner I like Bobbi brown.

Thanks for the tips! I also like the Bobbi Brown gel pot liner, but haven’t tried the others you mentioned, will check those out. Thanks again!

Rant: They can be pretty difficult to remove.

Rave: The good ones stay put all day. Also, in Oregon, waterproof is real plus for protecting your makeup.

I haven’t had any negative experiences, although I haven’t tried many… UD 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner is *amazing*, though, and has withstood a full 90+°F day at Disneyland, including multiple treks in the front seat of Splash Mountain! That said, I’m not a big fan of the applicator.

What I hate is that I’ve never actually found a truly Waterproof eyeliner! Le Metier de Beaute liquid liner was the closest thing I’ve ever found and now it’s discontinued.
