Spring Makeup Launches (2019)
I wouldn’t say it’s been particularly remarkable this season in terms of things that I’ve found and loved (overall), BUT there has been a slow down in releases–at least that’s how it feels to me, with respect to eye products–so that’s been nice (sort of).

I don’t typically get excited about Spring (or Summer) collections, in general, as the color stories don’t often fit my aesthetic. However, I did get pretty excited about the Wet n Wild Rebel Rose collection, and am waiting for my order of the palettes & matte lipsticks to come in… I also just picked up 2 of the MAC Art Library palettes, although I wouldn’t really consider those “seasonal”, since they’re going to be permanent, as well as the UD Naked Reloaded, which I plan to pick up soon…
Honestly, I own so much makeup ti be enough for free lifes… So I really really Hope to do not love anything in the spring collection, or at least to have dupes for all the staff which Will catch my Eye… But guys, spring and Summer makeup means usually Coral lilpstick, colorfoul palette… I love them. I Will take the new make-up launches as inspiration to rearrange my own collection because now I’ve eventally understood that when you own dozen of palettes, the new One that Is catching your eyes Is likely the combinati in of the palettes you already have. Or when you have a lot of lipstick, mixing each togheter could allow you ti re create almost every shades
So true. I was about to order the new ABH Riviera palette then I thought better of it because I already own so many similar shades in palettes or single shadows. And I probably haven’t used any makeup more than 10x this whole year because I haven’t been in the mood.
Rave: I really like the lightness of the shades released in spring/summer collections. After the long, hard winter’s we have in Montana I am usually ready for more brightness in my makeup. I usually have recovered financially from the holiday season and can order freely from those releases that excite me. I also tend to wear lighter makeup in spring/summer season so don’t need a lot of heavy pigmentation.
Rant: I haven’t seen a lot of spring/summer releases that actually look like they were meant to be spring/summer. The releases that I have see so far, and there haven’t been many, all look more fall/winter to me. You would think that spring/summer would mean some lovely green/blue/coral releases but so far, haven’t seen any. I am still seeing a lot of the same old warm based e/s palettes and deeper tones. I am looking for something with more washes of colour rather than heavy looking, thick products.
Check out the Dior palettes, Sugar Shade and Mellow Shade. I own them both and love them. Very springy/summery and the colors can be applied with a light hand which just gives a soft wash of color. I’m so happy about this as I don’t like the heavy pigmented dark colors that have been prevalent lately. As an almost 60 year old woman, this look does not suit my coloring or my age. Hope this helps.
Thank you, Prudence. I know, I am 65 and the looks that younger girls can pull off I just can’t successfully, anymore. I still try though, believing that at my age I should be able to do and wear what I want as long as I am okay with it but truth be told, none of us want people staring at us in a bad way!! I will check them out. I have quite a few Dior quads and in general, they work well for me.
Rant: So many of the spring launches feature pink shades….I just NEVER wear pink and it would be nice to see something different.
Rave: Every now and again you do get some lovely blues and greens. At least with the SG eyeshadows, there are lots of lovely greens to choose from.
Raves: I like that we start seeing brighter colors again for lips and cheeks. I love the corals and bright pinks.
Rants: White-based pastels (*shudders*). Spring is the season in which I’m least likely to buy. Overall, colors are pretty neutral and safe for eyes (bad pastels aside), and lighter makeup looks are favored, and that’s not really my style.
Ha…I LOVE those white-based pastels, so long as there is enough pigment to have a color (think Pastel Goth). For lips, I don’t even need that much pigment. But…I’m pretty opposite you on the color spectrum so I can see why it’s not your fave. But I love a good chalky pastel.
Yeah, they probably look a lot better on you than they do me! lol
Spring collections are my second least favorite season. Usually it’s pastels, which I can’t wear. Or they focus on “good skin”, which usually ends up being “no make-up” make up, if any at all. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the break after being bombarded during the fall/winter collections but I need something bright or colorful as winter is wrapping up, even if it’s only one thing. Spring 2019 has been better than most. There were 2 brands/collections that appealed to me: bareMinerals Floral Utopia collection and Chantecaille’s Polar Ice collection.
Raves: I tend to be in the mood for fresher, lighter colors after many winter months.
Rants: It’s very easy for springtime colors to be too sugary or cute for my tastes.
Rant: Generally the same ideas for spring and summer make up… there doesn’t seem to be much that hasn’t been done before (though, I could say that about makeup in general).
Rave: I really love the lightness and glossiness of everything during the spring and summer. Everything is so fresh and dewy and that is my aesthetic. Also, I love love love how blushy everything gets. I’m a blush lover and have my eye the ND Bloom palette.
Rant: I hate that the overall look’s supposed to be all light and natural and sheer-I don’t have good-enough skin for that.
Rave: The lipsticks and eyeshadows are so bright!
I’ve been liking what I’ve seen thus far. I’m especially interested in the Violet Voss Sugar Crystal palette
