Rant & Rave: Sheer Lipgloss

This Week’s Topic: Sheer Lipgloss!

Your Mission: Tell us what you love, hate, or are otherwise indifferent to about sheer lipgloss. What drives you bananas? What makes them necessary?

my answer: They’re awesome for layering, but they can run together – they can just be so similar that it’s like, “oh, another sheer gloss?” They usually don’t wear as long either!

My lips are pigmented and sheer lipgloss colours just end up looking so incredibly similar on me that I fail to see the point. I do love super shimmery sheer glosses to be worn on their own or over lipstick or lips coloured in with lip pencil, but a couple in my collection at a time is all I need.

I’m not much of a gloss person. I think having one clear one is good, but beyond that, I prefere having something with color, so that it will change the underlying lip color-I very rarely will wear lipgloss on it’s own.

I have a gripe with sheer gloss. I have super pigmented lips so sheer glosses usually don’t show up. I have to LAYER them to death to get some kind of result and even then it doesn’t look like much 🙁

I like sheer glosses for layering, or for something to throw on while I’m out (sometimes, it’s too hot to have to deal with carrying a balm or lipstick in my purse, and a gloss usually won’t get all messy).

I don’t mind different brands putting out similar shades as one another, but I find it really annoying when there are 5-10 glosses within the same brand that are nearly identical (the same actually goes for all other products, as well, not just sheer glosses).

I don’t like sheer lipgloss. If i’m going to layer gloss over a lipstick i use one that has some color. If i wear gloss by itself i like a more opaque one. I only have one sheer one which i rarely use.

Like garlic to a vampire- sheer and gloss are sure to repel me. Neither looks “right” on me and I always associate gloss and lack of pigment with little girl make up. I am NOT saying this is true for those who prefer both sheerness and glossiness- it just has that association when I see it on myself. I don’t feel “grown up”.

They’re so desperately boring. I especially hate sheer or clear glosses by high end cosmetics company. Like heck in going to pay $20 for your gloss when they’re going to look completely nonexistent on my lips.

I have a pair of sheer lip gloss in my beauty, and for me is more than enough.
They are all very between their, so I needless to buy a lot, especially if they are much expensive.
I buy a new sheer lip gloss only if he is cheap enough, otherwise I invest my money in a nice bold lipstick 🙂

I love sheer gloss as long as it has some noticeable color, which doesn’t really take much cause my lips don’t have much pigmention. UD Crush and Colin are favs of mine.

I like sheer, shimmery drugstore glosses. They’re cheap, provide a hint of colour and moisture, and are easy to reapply between classes without a mirror. Although I think it’s ridiculous to spend money on high-end sheer glosses, unless you really love the packaging.

I wore on of my sheerest glosses on it’s own recently, and I was surprised that I found it so odd! After getting into lipstick last year it just wasn’t enough pigment.

I personally hate sheer lipglosses because most of the time I’m not expecting them to be sheer. Nothing is worse than seeing a pretty color in the tube & then realizing it’s nearly sheer once applied! I love light pink/nude glosses, but anything that comes out clear on the lips seems like a waste of money to me!

I love most things you can put on your lips I guess but I do have a clear, sparkly Estee Lauder lip gloss. When you layer it over a matte lipstick it totally changes the look…so pretty!!

I like having a few on hand for things where I’m wearing like a bright shirt and don’t want my lipstick to clash with my clothes, or if I’m feeling very minimalistic and just want a bit of shine or sparkle for my lips. I have a couple of the Bobbi Brown high shimmer lip glosses that are more sheer, and two Glossimers that are pigmented but look somewhat sheer on my lips anyway. I don’t know as I really need more at this point, but I’m a fiend for lip gloss and lipstick so odds are I’ll acquire more anyway.

Jennie Avatar

eh….I’m a lipstick girl, so I really only use sheer gloss over lipstick. Never on it’s own. That said, I do end up turning to my sheer gloss when I’m out and about and don’t have time to do a proper touch-up or use a mirror and I REALLY need some moisture and refreshment of my lip color.

Usually i don’t like sheer glosses, like what’s the point of a lip gloss if it yields no to little color.its a waste to buy and a bore to apply.semi sheer is another story which can be still buildable by layering.otherwise there ate many opaque non sticky lip glosses out there.

I hate putting on sheer lipgloss! I hate the feeling of slimy lips. I’d rather buy other products than this that I could use everyday..like a new lipstick? What do you think? For me, YES!

Nikki Avatar

Sheer lip gloss is the worse! I hate it when I buy a gloss expecting it to be pigmented only to put it on my lips and see absolutely nothing! Don’t get me wrong, I do own one just to layer over lipsticks for moisture, but I don’t see a need for multiple sheer glosses. Whenever I run into one by accident, I pass it along to my mother because she’s afraid of lip color. lol
