Rant & Rave: Metallic Lipstick
Share: Tell us what you love and hate about Metallic Lipstick!
my answer: The effect can be really cool when it’s done right, but it can be a challenge to wear or produce, because you need it to be hydrating enough that it doesn’t catch on imperfections on the lips while still having that very high-sheen, metallic finish that’s not overly glossy.
I don’t like it at all.
ditto only if youre going for a specific look but definitely not natural or pretty
I think it can be beautiful. However, I find that metallic lippies are usually drying. In addition, the rest of the face needs to be subtle and not too shimmery, either.
I have yet to find a nice metallic lipstick, but then again, I don’t experiment as often with frost finishes because of the drying issues. Do you have a fave red one, Christine?
I love metallic lipsticks — they’re just so hard to find!
My inner rock star would love to wear these, but I find them too drying on these desert lips. When they emphasize lip texture, it’s just a really bad look for me…’shudder’. It seems they can start out fine, but quickly go downhill with a bit of wear.
I love metallic lipsticks that are creamy and give that juicy, wet kinda look. I don’t like the ones that make your lips look dry and feel gritty though.
I don´t really like metallic lips, especially if the colors are light like a pale pink. That screams “the 80ies are over” to me. I can´t help it. 😀
Some darker colors on the other hand, for example a burgundy red with some shimmer or metallic sheen can be nice
Mmmnope! It’s so ’80s and I don’t really like ’80s makeup.
The secret to metallic lips is photoshop! 😀 Seriously, unless you have smooth, full, well prepped and moisturized lips, metallic lipstick can look pretty bad. So many of the metallic lipstick finishes look flat and do nothing to enhance lip contours. I think the cosmetic companies have done a much better job producing metallic eye shadows and liners than they’ve done producing lipstick. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that metallic lipstick is a fail, I’m just saying it requires a lot of prep to look good.
My sentiments exactly, although I’m a closet magpie and want to go after anything shiny.
I would love to get my hands on some good metallic gold and metallic bronze lipsticks! Sadly, the sole lipstick I could find that came somewhat close to a full-on bronze fell into every single lip line and faded within the hour.
They’re okay, but I’m generally not a big fan of shiny finishes in general, whether it’s metallic or glossy. Viva Glam Rihanna is about as metallic as I’m willing to go.
I love metallic&frost finish in everything and metallic lipstick is so beautiful but it make my face look older somehow and they make my super dry, no matter what I do 🙁
I’m not sure if there’s anything to rave about :-S
Not for me.
Not a fan of metallic lipsticks/products. I recently tried out some of the metallic OCC Lip Tars and had a terrible experience… maybe if I found something very hydrating I’d give metallic finishes another try.
I like them, but they are the kind of lipstick I only want one or two of. They can look really drying, like you said, if the formula is off.
I love my metallic purple lipstick (MUFE 15) and when it’s done right it’s awesome, but it can be very tricky to wear and so often they don’t get it right…
Metallic lipsticks give me nightmares. All I see are horrible 80’s flashbacks LOL, I just think they look so ugly.
I admire it on others, but it almost never works on me (the only exception is Lancome Mars, which I think my sister got as a gift with purchase). If I had fuller lips or nicer skin it might be easier to pull off, but I tend to find it makes my lips look worse. Also most of the ones I’ve tried are both drying and very dry and hard to apply as a result.
I love metallic lipsticks, but only own one at the moment because other finishes tend to feel much more wearable. Milani seems to really do them right! Metallic, but still a bit subtle enough to look nice without much extra effort.
Not my fav but they can look pretty sometimes if they go with your undertones and aren’t too pale. Most are crappy, dry and gritty. The only metallic lipstick I found that is also moisturizing is one by Essence(they don’t make it anymore and I’m sad cause I almost never find a lipstick line that doesn’t dry my lips out after 30 mins and I wanted other shades). I don’t really wear it cause I prefer non-shimmery lips. I got it through a mistake, the woman at a small subway shop gave me this shade instead of the non-shimmery nude. The tubes are similar…it’s a light beige-gold, it’s mostly shimmer, not color.
Not my favorites.
I only have 3 out a collection of 100 lipsticks. Now lip gloss….that’s a different story. I love metallic gloss.
If it was really metallic and not frosty, maybe. I’d be too scared to buy only to find out I got a frosty mess. I agree with others, it can tend to age you too. I mostly stick to cream formulas with a few nice shimmery lipsticks.
