We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! It feels like most companies release mostly Autumn launches all year long because 90% of the time everything is in fall colors every season. And if it isn’t Autumn colors, it’s mauve, so most of the population (myself included) struggles to find flattering colors year round.
I would really like to get away from warm toned palettes that ALL look the same. I can only take so many browns, reds, oranges, yellows, etc. I want to see some truly innovative, well-thought out palettes or releases that can fit into a fall collection. I would love to see more purples, blues, and greens that are not just thrown in for a change in color scheme.
A lot of these recent warm palettes (starting with the ABH MR palette and moving along to the recent UD Naked Heat one) simply do not work at all for me so I’ve skipped them entirely. I used to thing I like “warm” eyeshadows (but I’m talking about shades like MAC Mulch) – these reds and oranges and hot fuchsia shades are dreadful for me. I don’t mind “warm” in the sense of the original Naked palette or the new MJ Edgitorial one but they look positively frosty compared to the spate of newer “warm” palettes like those I mentioned. I think I’m going to pick up Edgitorial this week as my new autumn eyeshadow palette. I at least want to check it out in person.
Yes, I am ready for fall collections, although many of the ones I have seen so far have not been wowing me. I think I like the things I purchases last fall much better. I have been travelling a lot this summer and really haven’t loved anything and when I have loved something it has usually sold out before I had a chance to purchase. I really prefer a darker, deeper lip on myself and for that reason alone, I am ready to break out the fall lippies.
Fall collections are generally my favourites. Fall is my favourite time of year generally – the dog days of summer give way to more moderate temperatures and it’s easier to dress nicely (rather than wearing as little as possible so you don’t melt) – I still have such a “back to school” mentality. So, yeah – I love the deeper, richer tones that are typical of autumn makeup collections – rich red or burgundy lipsticks, deeper, more sultry shades for eyes. I just love it.
Rave: Just love the shades of autumn: olive green, gold and taupe eyeshadows, rust coloured lipsticks and peachy blush.
Rants: Brands seem to release all kinds of shades all over the seasons, so that they don’t ‘feel’ special anymore.
No rants about autumn from me!
I love all the launches! I’m always so curious as to what the brands will come out with for any season! I’m still shocked how they keep coming out with something new each time!
I am so, so, so excited for the upcoming Victoria Beckham x Estée Lauder collection! I’ve been keeping tabs on the sneak peaks and other info available online and I want a scary amount of stuff…yikes.
Will you be reviewing the new VB collection, Christine? I’m super intrigued by the (reformulated?) Eye Foils in the jars. They seem like a totally different formula….Tom Ford-esque, perhaps? (That’s what I’m hoping!)
Autumn is my favorite season and my birthday is at the start of fall. I generally purchase all collections that interest me in fall and for the holidays, especially since they tend to align with the neutral and natural looks, which I love.
As much as I love burgundies and rusts, unfortunately I’m not as excited about fall launches. I find those colors hard to pull off on my eye shape. I’ll wear a burgundy/ red lip from time to time, but mostly I wear a more natural makeup or monochrome warm browns, so the typical fall launch wouldn’t normally appeal to me.
I do however have a soft spot for unique shadow sticks or new formulations in base makeup…
I already ordered (and received and have worn lol) Dior Magnetic eyeshadow palette from their Metallics collection. I wore it yesterday and absolutely love it. I see myself wearing this quite often this fall. I never order blush or lipstick sight unseen but I usually have good luck with Dior eyeshadows. I haven’t been disappointed yet. 🙂
LOVE: Fall is my favourite time of year. I gravitate more to dramatic and rich tones, muddy muted tones, and also colour basics (spring summer are typically far too colourful for my tastes). That being said: the seasons have blurred to the point where they are irrelevant and people wear what they want year ’round.
I can’t think of any rants for fall collections. I love fall colors. After going very light on makeup during the triple digit temperatures of August, it’s nice to dig into my collection again and go for more intricate and dramatic looks. I think indie brand collections are really fun, because they come out with cute Halloween collections. I love Halloween, and my birthday is exactly two weeks before, so I have fun splurging.
On one hand, if it’s COOL autumn colours (burgundy, cooler browns, taupes) it’s amazing – those are totally my fave colours. On the other hand, if it’s WARM autumn colours (oranges, yellows, army greens) it’s a total miss – those colours look terrible on me.
(Suffice it to say, Subculture and Naked Heat were total misses for me. :S )
