Rant & Rave: Cream Blush
Share: Tell us what you love and hate about Cream Blush!
my answer: I love the consistency and how easy it is to blend the product on the skin, but sometimes they can look splotchy or uneven, so finding the right formula is trickier than you’d think!
I only have one from Illamasqua and I really like it. I don’t really have much of a complaint except for the fact that it sometimes looks a little gross on the surface lol after you dip your brush into it and all. Looks weird.
With my oily skin they tend to melt off! I wish I could wear them but they don’t last long.
I’ve been obsessed with my cream blushes recently since they provide such a natural sheen on my combination skin. The finish really balances out the shine that can develop on my t-zone throughout the day. I also find that they tend to stick around (ha) much better than powders in the heat. If fading occurs, it’ll be even and more natural looking. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge and Joe Fresh cream blushes are my fave! xx
Agree! And I also dislike that they attract hairs and dirt so they always look a bit grimey in the pan.
I can never get them to work for me, probably because sometimes the tops of my cheeks have dry patches.
I have exactly the same problem! A lot people said I should try a creme blush because I have very dry skin.. So I went to Mac because of the price / quality. I just feel it doesn’t work for me while it should on dry skin. So I’m glad I bought one from Mac to test out instead of spending a lot more money on it (like MFE). I can use it when I have a good day, but that’s it. So I still prefer powder blushes.
I haven’t tried too many cream blushes but my favorite are the maybelline blush sticks. The NYX cream blushes were nice but I was totally disgusted when i opened it one day and there was a thick layer of oil on the top! I would love to try more!
Love how they impart a more natural looking flush that melds with the skin.
Love some formulas can work really well for layering with powder blush on top to create a more nuanced cheek.
Hate how some formulas can run too sheer and greasy looking.
I do not wear cream blush frequently because it usually looks blotchy and unnatural. I can blend powder blushes with brushes and there is not as much room for error.
I also have the creams turn out blotchy. I think the application can be tricky simply because of its consistency if it’s in a pan or tube. The closest I’ve come to success is using a stick blush, which I attribute to being able to apply easily and evenly. Agreed with blending powder blushes, and I think you can get a sheerer look this way.
I love how natural cream blushes sit on my skin! I tend to prefer silicone-based cream to powder formulas, however, as they tend to be very blendable and feels soft to the touch instead of having that sticky/tacky feel (which also tends to lead to splotchiness on your cheeks).
I prefer them to powders, as I have drier skin, and prefer to not to use finishing/setting powders. If I use a powder blush directly over cream/liquid foundation, powder blush tends to look to heavy and/or splotchy. I can also reapply sunscreen over cream/liquid products, which is something I can’t do with powders.
My only complaint is the availability and color range for cream formulas…
I love how dewy and natural they can look but the application is a little messy for me. I prefer to use brushes to apply my makeup but my fingers work better for cream blush. I just hate to use my fingers to apply my makeup though lol
I love to layer cream blush under my powder blush to enhance the color. It also makes the blush last longer – a big problem I feel! I have found a really good drugstore one, the permanent Revlon ones. They dry matte. I was thinking of getting the “how bout them apples”-palette but they are just as shiny as smearing lipstick on your cheeks
I live in Buenos Aires, so humid weather is a constant and I have oily skin, so cream blushes are not right for me. But I wore MAC’s So sweet so easy on my holidays in a dry weather (lakes and mountains) and it was beautiful!
I like it, but I need to find a better brush to apply it with. I find it is hard to apply evenly sometimes. I currently use revlon cream blush in coral reef, and it’s a decent affordable option.
I love the consistency of most of the cream blushes that Ive tried. The only complaint I used to have is that they dont last very long, but that change when I bought nars Cadaque. Love the Becca Tints too . Havent looked back since!!
i love the Revlon cream blush range. They are a cream to powder consistency, very subtle and blends easily with the use of fingers. I keep hearing people complain about cream blushers that are sticky and wet. I certainly don’t get this with Revlon’s range
Well, I’ve only tried one brand really (Chanel), which was a pretty awesome place to start. For that reason, I love them! I have heard of some others that are a bit to slippery/oily though – since the Chanel one goes to a sort of powder finish, and I use a powder foundation often, I suspect I would be very wary of ones that didn’t…
I love cream blushes! My all time favorite is the Nyx Cream blushes. Not the best color range, but great price and product!
I’m not really a fan of cream blushes but I do love the Stila Convertible Colors!
Beautiful, natural glowing cheeks…if you have perfect skin to begin with. Large pores, uneven texture or blemishes…shudder! I have yet to find one that blends over textural issues well. Sadness…
I like cream blush, but only the dryer formulas, if that makes sense
. For instance, I like Illamaqua’s Cream Pigments (admittedly, this is a multi-use product for lips/eyes/cheeks but I like them best for cheeks) but I find their Cream Blushers a bit too moist – I am usually heavy-handed with my blush application so I find the moist formulas end up with a lot on your brush and produce a very pigmented look, plus often go blotchy with finishing powder; whereas dryer formulas you get less product on your brush and thus have to build up the pigmentation in layers.
So, dryer formula cream blushes that I like (so far) are Illamasqua cream pigment and Mac Cremeblend blush, but I dislike Illamasqua cream blusher and Mac Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour as I find them too moist.
I could never get it to look right until I started using the Real Techniques stippling brush to stamp it on. Now I love it!
I use cream blush in winter when my skin is a little more dry. My favorite formula is Bobbi Brown. I really don’t hate anything about it except that I can’t use it in summer because it just slide all over the place lol. I live in the south….lots of humidty.
I do love that dewy natural looking finish that cream blushes give. I first watched Labyrinth and fell in love with Sarah’s makeup, and tried to replicate the look with my powder blushes. I completely failed at that, then tried Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rogues. Those were great. <3
For me the turining point came with the use Of Bobbi Brown Full Cocerage Face Brush. It helps me to distribute the cream blush perfectly and avoid setting into the lines of my face!!! Bought a back-up to be covered while my brush dries from cleansing. A MUST HAVE for cream blush and more mature skin!!!!
Favourite cream blush: Chanel “Cheeky”…. Even bought an extra as the colour was true perfection to me. MAC BB cream Compact SS14 is also great for my skin…
