Rant & Rave: Brow Gel

Tell us what you love and hate about...

Brow Gel

When they actually hold without getting super-crunchy, so love them.  Nothing to rant about except the crunchy ones!

Loreal’s Brow Stylist Plumper in the clear formula is pretty good. Not really crunchy, and holds decently. The packaging is nice too: black and gold.

My favorite is the Anastasia clear gel, which I get during Ulta’s 21 days of beauty sale. NYX’s brow freak is okay, but I definitely prefer the Anastasia. Essence’s is the worst. I’m still mad about how dumb that packaging is.

I go to the gym after work and brow gel gets all over my forehead if I even lightly pat my forehead with a towel. I love the way it looks but I have decided not to wear it on gym days anymore.

I usually use a clear one to keep my Sasquatch brows in place after using a brow powder, and I love how a great brow gel can keep any amount of craziness under control! Lately my brows have been in great shape and I don’t actually need to fill them in, so I’ve been using a tinted brow gel to match my brow color to my hair color, and using a tinted brow gel solo gives such a great, naturally defined look, if anyone is interested in defining their brows but doesn’t want to look like they’ve “painted on” their brows.

I’m not a fan of the ones that are too thick or the ones that dispense too much product on the wand. I can see why some people would like something that would bulk up their brows if they have sparse eyebrows but I don’t! The only thing I use to keep my brows in place is the Clarins Double Fix’ Mascara. It’s not too thick and I use it sparingly. In general though I just stick with my beloved Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony and I skip the gel.

I don’t really use them much. My biggest complaint is most of them have brushes that are huge, and near impossible to use without making a mess. On the plus side, they can really help change the color of brows to match dyed hair colors.

I haven’t used one yet, but I’m planning on picking up the Anastasia one to go with my Brow Wiz. My brows are pretty even and I keep them threaded and trimmed so I don’t really need to keep them in place, but I feel like it’s the kind of product that’s good to have on hand for certain occasions.

I really hate it when the tinted ones have ginormous wands. I’m not really interested in smearing tinted gel on my forehead and the browbone I just highlighted. Why don’t more companies package their brow gels with precise applicators?

Rant: most of the brow gel colors are too warm. I am warm toned, but also have rosacea, so I’m careful about red tones in color cosmetics.

Rave: Anastasia brow gel in Granite is my holy grail brow gel. It is a cool taupe, camouflages the few grey hairs that are sneaking in, and keeps everything neatly in place all day. I use it sparingly…a tube lasts me the better part of a year.
