Quick & Easy Look: Gold & Purple
Quick & Easy Look: Gold & Purple
Hmm, I was trying to do a combo I haven’t done before. It came out… interesting! 🙂 I think it’s one of those looks-better-in-real-life kind of looks.
How’s your Tuesday going? I’m excited–my Nubar order arrived this afternoon, so I can’t wait to go play with those for a bit. I’m trying to give myself some me-time, because I finished up my last final yesterday (well, for law school–business school finals start up in a couple of weeks!), but it’s so hard for me to do that! At least I finally got my hair cut this afternoon. It only took a year and a half.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Benefit Stay Don’t Stray (neutral beige base), MAC Retrospeck Eyeshadow (dirty gold), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (PRO) (deep bright blue), MAC Digit Eyeshadow (icy purple), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (dark blue), Fresh Supernova Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140)
- Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb Blush (coral pink)
- Lips: MAC Sweetie Lipstick (soft pink), Illamasqua Fierce Lipgloss (purple), LORAC Cliche Multiplex Gloss (fuchsia)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom
For eyes, start by applying Stay Don’t Stray as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Retrospeck eyeshadow on the lower lid. Next, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending outwards and upwards to fade to the brow bone. With the 239, apply Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow into the crease directly and then blended towards the outer corner and lid. Use Digit eyeshadow to fade the crease color towards the brow bone with the 239. Blend Femme-fi eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant eyeliner on the lower lash line and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Supernova mascara.
For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Sweetie lipstick first, and then dab on a little Fierce lipgloss to make it a soft lavender-pink. Layer Cliche lipgloss for a complementing lip.

New hair!
Cute! I always do purple and gold with Mac’s Odd Couple Duo!
Thanks, Lydia! 🙂
Omg, I love this look so much. You look gorgeous Christine. I’m going to have to copy this look from you. Sorry! LOL
LOL! Go right ahead! Thanks, Shontay!
I love the new hair! It looks great parted down the middle like that 🙂
Thanks, Tiffany!
I think that’s lovely. Your hair is getting long again Christine, you gonna cut it again or do you miss it long?
Thanks, Bettina! 🙂 I just got it today, so this is about where I’m staying – I’ll probably go an inch or two longer!
it looks neat!
and i like ur hair 🙂
Thanks a lot, Evelyn!
You must really love your sugarbomb!!!
I always see you using it in your looks! 🙂
I absolutely love mine I wore it today for class!
P.S. You look sooo soooooo pretty with a middle part!!
LOVE Sugarbomb 🙂
Thank you!!
OMG girly you have on a grey shirt and that would be purple makeup!!! LOL your breaking your own makeup matchy match rule 🙂 I rather like it
LOL, I consider gray/black to match with anything 🙂
Wow, beautiful use of colors I would not have thought to couple. The blending is beautiful, and I love your hair combed down to the sides. So gorgeous!
Thanks a lot, Melissa!
How pretty!
Love the look =)
Thanks, Norma!
The lipstick underneath makes that crazy cool gloss so much more wearable!
Definitely 🙂
the look is so pretty and i love the new hair! ^_^
Thanks so much, Dani!
I love this look, and especially love your new haircut! It looks fantastic! And I already was in love with Fierce lipgloss from your previous post, but seeing its versatility here makes me even more of a fan.
Thanks, Amy! 🙂 It’s my standard cut, LOL, but it’s been so long since I’ve had it.
I love your hair!
I’ve always had to have hair that’s short like a guys because I’m easily frustrated with long hair.
But you look so gorgeous!
Thank you! 🙂 I love, love my long hair. I put it up a lot, but short hair just wasn’t me!
Love this look, Christine! Deviant is absolutely gorgeous with those shadows :]
Thanks so much, Sally 🙂
Ahhh. This is the first look you’ve done I’m not a fan of! Its the lips that throw it off for me.
Oh and btw Christine, I got my hair cut on Saturday, took me about 2 and a half years, LOL!
Nice!!
Sorry you didn’t like it!
I love the look especially the lips 🙂 i love purple in general so this is just me. Also love your hair so chic!
Thanks a lot, Starr 😀
I actually really like the look! I love your hair too! Makes me miss my long hair..I cut it off to an A-line bob which I love it but seeing pics of your hair makes me miss mine..lol
I did short hair for the first time in a long time (my mom chopped it off in the first grade and I didn’t go short again until like… 15 years later, lol), but I immediately missed my long hair. It wasn’t that I hated it… but I enjoyed the longer hair better!
Thank you!
Quite interesting!
I’m actually more impressed by the eyebrows. Wowzers, I wish I could grow strong brows like that!
Aww! I used to have tiny ones, but I am loving the fuller shape now!
Very cool look. I need to play around more with color along the lower lash line. I look terrible with black or brown there…something about my eye shape…but maybe a color would be better.
Thank you 😀
Love the gorgeous lip color!
Thanks a lot, Vonvon!
I was thinking about doing a purple and gold combo recently actually, I just wasn’t sure which gold and which purple I was going to use. In my mind I pictured a deep purple with a richer gold, but I like the soft look of these colours – very fresh and summery!
I hope you try purple & gold! Thanks, Kathryn!
This is wonderful, Christine! It’s so soft and pretty — like a classic watercolour painting 🙂 Congrats on finishing your last law school final!
(P.S. Holy shiznat your hair is shiny. Love it!)
Thanks, Rae! LOL, that’s what happens when you never style it, haha.
Purple and gold is actually one of my favorite color combo, nice job!
Thanks, Amy 😀
LOVE the hues of purple and gold…those are my schools colors (university of washington) and it would be perfect to rep our spirit. Go Purple Be Gold 🙂
Awesome 😀
Thanks, Alayna!
did you use a flat iron on your hair?! it looks so straight and pretty. I like the colors of all the eye shadows blended in.
I didn’t do anything – the stylist did, but yes she used a flat iron for a few minutes at the end. TBH, I didn’t see it doing much – it was pretty straight from being blown out!
This is pretty. I think it would have looked better if you didn’t use so much blue on your crease. Maybe a lighter shade of blue. The shade of blue you used makes the colors look like they’re not blended very well. If the blue was blended towards the outer corners of your lids it would have looked a lot better. Other than that, everything looks great!
Thanks for the suggestion, Liz!
I noticed you’ve kind of changed the way you describe how you apply colors lately. Are you saying the first color (retrospeck) is all over the lid, then the second (atlantic blue) in in the crease, then the third (stars & rockets) is in top of the other crease color and on the outer v? I know this is a different pattern than you usually use, I just want to make sure I’m getting it right. It’s like, you’re layering Atlantic Blue and Stars & Rockets?
I describe it in the order I apply it, however it may be in that look 🙂 So in this look, I applied Atlantic Blue first (well, after Retrospeck) and then layered Stars ‘n Rockets over it.
gorgeous look darling
n the hair cut is to die for ….
i love long hair too …
i always had small cut like till shoulders or sometimes short
but when i conceived it was then when my hair grew like crazily …
i give full credit to my baby …
Aw, thanks a lot, Rashmi! I have heard that motherhood helps with hair growth with the prenatals!
very nice look!
did you actually mix the two glosses, or layer/apply in different areas?
glad you got fierce to work for you – knew you’d have no problem 😉
i’m thinking about going back to illamasqua to pick up fierce and petulant…(i chose torture over petulant last time)
Thank you, Aradhana! 🙂 Fierce is definitely workable and wearable… when used in moderation, lol!
Purple looks great on your eyes! 🙂
P.S. I love your new hair! 🙂
Thanks so much, Ira 🙂
It’s more than interesting! I really like it. Really pretty.
Thank you, Sun!
This is beautiful! I love purples and golds together, need to try to recreate this somehow. 🙂 Also, been meaning to buy Deviant but always put it off as I have 2 or 3 bright blue eyeliners, but on your it actually looks purple, it’s gorgeous! 🙂
Thank you, Anita! 😀 Deviant is lovee.
Really like this look. I love when you are just trying something new and it looks really nice. Love your site!
Thanks a lot, Kelli!
This look is gorgeous! I think I might be doing this today…
Thank you, Elly!
i really wanna do this! i recently bought stars and rockets and am constantly finding new ways to used it! thanks
Yay! I hope you try it!
Please don’t take this as a mean hater-comment. It’s intended to just help you (if you’d like). I visit your website a lot, and i love it. But i noticed that all of your looks (like when you do your eye makeup) is EXACTLY the same. Obviously not the same colors, but virtually EXACTLY the same. Try switching it up and you’ll probably get more (positive) feedback. And be extra careful with your eyebrow [shape] not matching or being symetrical when you fill them in. I’m a makeup artist, and i’d gladly give you tips on application or anything you’d like.
Just for help, not hate 🙂
Thanks for the feedback, MichL! I’m sorry you feel that they’re all the same!
You look lovely n fresh…The lip color, the hair everything looks so well co-ordinated….Awesomne!!
Thanks, Resham!
Love this look.
Thank you, Nene!
Cute! Plus, they’re Husky colors!
Thanks, K!
I AM LOVING THAT PART ON YOU! 😀 Well done, my friend!
Thanks, Mandy!
Mascara looks fantastic Christine. I’m always the one to ask this, but did you curl your lashes this time?
BTW, I think you may have made a mistake you said you used Fresh Supernova mascara, but then in the description you said you used Plushlash. Love the lips Christine!
Thanks a bunch!
Thanks, Christina! Fixed 🙂
I did remember to curl here!
Wow, this is one of the most gorgeous looks I’ve EVER seen!
Thank you, Sam!

I don’t know why I didn’t comment sooner than this because I’ve looked up this look like ten trillion kajillion bajillion times, but it’s my favorite.
Yup, I have to say this is probably my official favorite look you have ever done.
Wow! I’m glad you like it so much, Zenaida! It is funny how something that I wasn’t sold on is someone else’s fave! 😀
