I can’t think of any! If anything, I might NOT use something because of the packaging.

Once I open them, I tend to use cream products in pots pretty much exclusively (foundations, moisturizers, concealers), and I only have one mascara open at a time, unless one has a brush that works extremely well on lower lashes. Also use liquid liners with an attatched brush exclusively.

I also tend to use eyeshadow palettes more often than singles/duos, because aside from my “go-to” highlighter shade, it’s just easier & faster to just grab a random palette, and throw something together. When it comes to palettes, though, I tend to use those that are less cumbersome.

Wow, this question is a little opposite of my thinking. Whenever I purchase something I couldn’t wait to get my hot huge hands on, my first response is to find a drugstore dupe, so I can use that instead. Because I don’t want to mess the beautiful, fun packaging up! Lol, I’ve gone so far as to take out the compact out and look at it while I’m using the dupe.

I really love using Lipstick Queen’s lipsticks: they’re super pretty on the outside (and have an awesome formula).

I also really enjoy painting my nails with Zoya polishes–not so much that it’s the perfect polish, but I just want to stare at the aesthetically pleasing bottles. Come on, OPI. Square bottles are the way to go. Butter London has some awesome packaging for their products and I’d use them all every day if I could.

I personally began using Hard Candy’s Green With Envy eyeshadow palette because I was in love with the packaging & for only $6 at the drugstore, it seemed like a steal. I honestly use the product a lot more due to the packaging, because although it is highly pigmented, it has a lot of fall out. If it had less fall out I would definitely love it for the product itself. However, it’s a cute palette to keep in the purse if only because of the packaging.

The packaging is a plus, it gives more pleasure, or is more practicle to use.
In général I’m more interested by the quality of the product. I love Guerlain’s Écrin 6 couleurs’ packaging (looks gorgeous) but prefer to use TF’s Cocoa mirage (simple packaging, but better quality imo).

But I could pick a product because it’s more easy to use than an other because of the packaging.
I use Dior’s lip Maximizer by day, cause the application is more easy than the by Terry’s Baume de rose, wich i only use by night at home.

Probably more of not using a product because of the packaging…as in not user-friendly. I had a bottle of Decleor Gradual Tan…not cheap at £35 and all went okay until the last third (pump action). The pump simply didn’t work. I took out the pump, turned it upside down and tried to transfer to another bottle. That was a dickens of a job, because it just wouldn’t budge. In the end, I had to cut off the top two thirds and then scrape out the rest with a spatula. I had to work too hard for the product, so I won’t buy it again. I’ve had to cut off most of the tube with Lancome foaming face cleanser when I couldn’t squeeze out any more. I found another two or three weeks’ worth that just wouldn’t come out normally. These products are just too expensive to waste.

There are times where I’d use something more often because the packaging is more convenient, like twist-up eyeliner or cream eyeshadows (no sharpening!). But like you, I can think of more instances of me NOT using a product because the packaging is cumbersome. I’m looking at you, compacts that are hell to open and jars that produce clouds of loose powder make-up.

Dior Nail Varnish.

I really adore their brush! I have collected a fair amount of salon and high end varnish but I tend to be choosing Dior a lot lately for my mani or pedi, simply for the ease of painting with their amazing brush. I just wish they offered more shades to purchase.

Items that can survive being in the bottom of my purse inevitably get used far more often. I might start the day with red/orange/pink/purple lips, but you can bet by the end of the day they’re coral since that tinted balm (Shiro Why not Zoidberg?) appears to be indestructible.

See also – items that stack well with other items of same type, so they don’t end up awkwardly shoved in a completely different drawer where I forget about them completely.

Laneige’s BB Cushion! Such compact packaging and so easy to apply. It doesn’t hurt that it’s quite a good product as well. Packaging that looks more luxurious in my eyes will definitely make me want to use the product more! But convenience and the quality of the product definitely have a say too.

I shamelessly admit to bring one of those people who factors high end packaging into a buy. Chanel lipsticks are my favorite – the adult me loves the the chic packaging, while my inner five-year-old loves clicking it open and close. Guerlain is pretty fun for the same purpose, but it’s bulky enough that I wont play with it too much because I fear dropping it.

Hmm I definitely use my naked palettes over single shadows or even duos and quads since they are so handy and have everything I need in them! And also, I can’t help but reach for my one and only YSL rouge volupte lipstick whenever I can because I just feel so glamorous using it hehe 🙂

1. Foundations in pump bottles (bc…just easier)
2. Bare minerals or nars duos (bc 2 complementary shades is all I need, usually)
3. Ysl sheer candy (bc gorgeous to look at and luxurious to use)

Don’t really have any products I use more because of packaging but there’s one lipstick which I don’t use as much because of packaging. It was given free by StrawberryNet which came in a tester tube with a plastic plug as cover. Reason is, the plug falls off easily in my handbag, hence, I’d rather not use it on days I do go out, which is most days. On stay-in days, I’d be wearing a lip balm instead.

Oh one of my biggest regret purchases was the Naked3 palette. I loved the pink, metallic, satiny outside but they are so not my colors. I keep trying to use it though because the packaging is so pretty and feminine to me. I also am far more likely to continually reach for a foundation with a pump than one without.

Urban Decay’s De-Slick powder. I forked over the $32 because it has the most beautiful purple case with metal filigree flowers showing through underneath the purple plastic. What I ended up with was a mediocre powder that needs more help in the mattifying department, but at least I can be the envy of all when I take it out of blot my face every two hours, right?

Stacey Avatar

I know a lot of readers don’t like the Urban Decay Naked one packaging, but I do even if it attracts dust. I just wipe it off with a moist towel. It is lightweight and good for travel. I don’t like carrying heavy stuff for travel.

Interesting question. I admit that there are products that I ignore or even want to use and put back into the drawer because the packaging is disturbing application. But in deed I stopped buying products with difficult or unattractive packaging because I enjoy more to use products that are not only nice in my face but also on my vanity. So it’s possible that very, very cute items are used more often by me because they lay on top of the table and not in the drawer. However, one item comes in my mind: GUERLAIN Meteorites. I love their effect (old version) so I would use them even without the jar but I enjoy the fragrance of it so much during application that I prefer to use it over my other powders. Fragrance is not packaging but something inbetween :))

Although I love pretty packaging … I don’t’ exclusively use a certain product for the packaging. I’m more concerned with .. is this eye shadow going to fade on me or last all day.

Yeah, the UD Naked Flushed palette, I love the bronzer, blush and highlighter all in one type. I really like the blush by itself, but would use it less if it wasn’t paired with the other two products!
