How do you organize your lipsticks?

How do you organize your lipsticks? Share!

I organize by brand, then by formula! For a brand like MAC that has a lot of products, I try to pull out the permanent shades and keep them separated from the limited edition/discontinued ones.

Thanks to Tonnie for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.

For lack of a better way, I just keep 5 lipsticks in my acrylic stand which i use over a month and the rest go inside the fridge packed in a box! That ways the ones I am not using remain fresh and I make sure to make a dent in the ones which are outside! 🙂

My shorter lipsticks (and glosses) are in a Really Useful Organiser Pack (this one: http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/usa/html/onlineshop/rub/b00_3litreOrg.php) I got from Staples and my longer lippies reside in reused Talenti jars. Since MAC is the one brand I have the most of and they are my babies, I keep the limited edition and permanent lipsticks in their own respective boxes. The rest of the boxes are organized by color/type (e.g. red lipsticks, nude glosses, oddball colors) and include MAC lipglasses because I only have…four of those.. One of the gelato jars is for lipsticks/glosses which are sheer, and the other is for opaque ones.

I organise them by season and occasion. Spring-Summer in one box and Autum-Winter in another box. Inside these two boxes I also have them separated by occasion. Day wear on one side and evening wear on the other side, so when I wake up in the morning I know where to find the ones I can wear without wasting more time.

I organise by shades and brand ! Like I keep all my red lipsticks and my pink lippies in separate glass containers and then sort them according to the brand !

While all my other makeup products are organized by brand and color, my lipsticks are organized by how much I like them! I have my favorites (most wearable shades) in the front, then some pink and brighter shades in the middle, then the ones that I never wear in the impossible-to-reach back part. Everything is stored upside down in lipstick holders so I can easily see the names. Lip products share a drawer with eyeliners in an Ikea Alex 9 drawer unit.

Love your system, Christine! Since I have to keep my stage kit (I’m an actor) and daily use kits separate, I relish when I can actually go through and organize my full lipstick collection. I separate first by formula (chubby pencils, cremes, greasepaints, mattes, lip paints, etc) and from there I go by brand and color. So all my NARS Velvet pencils are together and then broken down by color similarity (red family, pink family, etc), for example. When I need to have one section devoted to lip colors, I keep like formula with like formula so I can easily grab for say…a shiny gloss or an ultra-matte.

I have a drawer for all my Real Actual Lipsticks and a drawer for my Glosses/Hybrids/Liptars/etc. The drawers are clear so I keep them lined up so I can see the label from outside. My Chubby Pencils (I miiiight be slightly addicted to Revlon’s Just Kissable Balm Stain) are just long enough that they only fit diagonally in my drawers so I have one of them in each of my several bottommost drawers.

My tinted balms (mostly Shiro, although I have a bunch that are regular balms I melted and added a bit of lip tar to) I keep evenly distributed between all my purses, school bags, and coat pockets and try to rotate them frequently. Also evenly distributed are plain lip balms (Burts Bees) with lip treatments (Jack Black) strategically placed by bedside and computer.

Ive mentioned this before but a MAC lipstick (and many others too) is about the same size of a 12 gauge shotgul shell. I’ve got all my lipsticks in two 25 shell holders and one 50 shell box.

The 25s are organized by one box of newest shades and one box of favorites. The 50 box is mostly older lipstick I don’t wear that often.

In the boxes, there’s not much organization. I tend to put them back in the same area so I can usually find them but there’s aften a lot of squinting at the labels too.

Since I own over 100 lipsticks (only some are back-ups, and almost all are MAC) some form of organization is a must.
I briefly had them organized per color family – reds, pinks, and plums. I store my most-used lipsticks in a test tube rack.
Unfortunately, that system broke down quickly, as I often neglected the “color family” consideration in favor of the “where’s an empty slot?” consideration.
These days, I keep the lipsticks label-side-up, with the most-used ones in the test tube rack, and the others in a lipstick holder designated for “overflow.”
Mostly, I just hunt until I come across the one I want. It’s not getting any easier to read that microscopic print as I approach 50, either. 🙂

Since I don’t have too many, I just organize them by brand. For the multiples in each brand I just group the specific lines together. 😀

I have a drawer for lip products in my vanity, and I group them according to brand, but I’m not excessively happy with my system. I’d like to be able to see the labels more easily. Plus they roll away when I open the drawer lol. I’ve also been thinking of segregating products based on undertone, as I don’t wear cool-toned products unless I’m at my fairest winter skintone. That would also allow me to fit everything more easily!

My lipsticks are organized by brand and then color family. This way allows me to narrow down which color I’m looking for.

Well.. I usally take a small round white paper sticker, paint it with the lipstick and cover this small sticker with a larger transparent round sticker. Then I write brand/color/finish with a black permanent marker, stick them at the bottom of the lipsticks, and store them in acrylic organizers.
I know it seems kinda sick.. 😉
