OCC Jealous Lip Tar Stained Gloss Review, Photos, Swatches

OCC Jealous Lip Tar Stained Gloss

OCC Jealous Lip Tar Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “popsicle pink/red.” It’s a bright pop of warm red with a glossy, jelly-like finish. MAC Strawberry Malt is pinker. MAC Strut Your Stuff is slightly more orange but similar in color. Illamasqua Fume is redder. MAC Russian Red is slightly darker. Illamasqua Temper is a touch more orange but similar in the way it looks.

Stained Gloss is a take on Lip Tar with a glossier finish, more translucent quality to the color, and a color that will stain and isn’t sheer but is reminiscent of stained glass windows. Yes, stained glass windows certainly come to mind! They have just a little translucency that gives them a lighter look, almost jelly-like, while still yielding the kind of pigment that made Lip Tars famous in the first place. Jealous had a thinner consistency that was lighter in weight and in appearance. I actually feel like the new formula may appeal to those who find the original Lip Tars too much, too pigmented, or felt like they took too much work.

The glossy finish lasts three to four hours, while the lip color lingers on for much longer (another four, for a total of eight hours of wear). It also stains, so there is still even color beyond eight hours, but it looks more like a stain and less rich/intense as it did when initially applied. It was neither drying nor hydrating while I wore it, and it started to feel more like a regular Lip Tar once the glossiness wore away (I’d say the later couple of hours of Lip Tar’s wear). I do wish they were hydrating, though, because as they wear so long, that added moisture would be a treat.

How much product do you have to use? With the lip tars you use the smallest dot, so if this is close to that I’m getting it! Part of the appeal of the lip tars is the number of applications you get for your money.

The first OCC product that I actually like. This shade is definitely not for me, but I love the finish, and it seems like a great gloss overall. I love that it has a lot of color without looking too thick and opaque. Hopefully they have some other shades that will suit my skin tone better.

I’ve wanted to try one of the Lip Tars for a while now but I’m never sure what to start with. Would you suggest the “stained” or orginial version? Also, I’m looking for a “your lips but better” type of color to start out with. I’m an NW20 with fairly pigmented lips naturally. Any suggestions? I get so overwhelmed with how saturated the colors can be.

Hi, Christine!
In a review like this, where the wear “changes” through the day, from glossy, to lip tar, to stain, could you consider adding pictures through the day? I would really like to see the look of the product at the four hour & eight hour marks.
Thank you for all that you do!

i’ve got to go to occ or sephora to check these out in person. these might be my ideal liquid lipsticks. i’ve really, really wanted a liquid lip color that stains and lasts, but that’s also glossy and pops, as opposed to having a heavier feel and matte finish. I’ve tried to love the Lip Tars…but I just can’t, unless I add other stuff on top to give more a pop, which kinda defeats the purpose. I still love the shiseido lacquer rouge formula, but it doesn’t stain enough for me…i smack my lips a lot, and i want my color to last!

This is absolutely stunning! It looks fabulous on you as well, such a great summer color. Your skin is positively glowing too! I’ve noticed you’ve been wearing the Maestro foundation in a few looks and I was wondering if you were wearing it in this too. I’d love to see a review on what you think of the foundation if you have time!

These lip tars are incredible, the colours are highly vibrant & a great variety of pigmented shedes to suit everybody & for every occasion. Love the fact you can mix colours & create your own. Definitely a hit in the salon. Highly recommended for anyone.

OH! This looks like I need to give the new formula of lip tars another look. I tried the original years ago when they only had a few colors, and I never really liked how they felt on the skin. I love the finish this shows.

Aww, I’m gonna have to pass on these if they start to feel like a traditional Lip Tar after a while. Lip Tars destroy my lips. They’re the most drying lip products I’ve ever used. I thought these would be a nice, glossy, hydrating alternative 🙁

OMG…I MUST HAVE THIS~!!! I’m a big fan of gel/jelly-like based lip glosses and lip tints (Especially the ones from Asia) and to see OCC come out with this just made me want to buy them ALL
