OCC Covet Lip Tar Review, Photos, Swatches
OCC Covet Lip Tar
OCC Covet Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “buff neutral.” It’s a light-medium, orange beige with strong, warm undertones and a satin finish. MAC Tropical Buzz (LE, $22.00) is more orange, darker. MAC Sensual Sparks (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less orange. NARS Floralies (P, $25.00) is lighter. MAC Sheer Mandarin (LE, $17.00) is more orange, darker, shimmery. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Banjee (P, $18.00) is darker, brighter, more orange. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
The consistency was in line with the Matte Lip Tars; not too thick or too thin, never watery, and very pigmented so a little goes a long way, even with a lighter color like Covet. It’s a more unusual color, which I found harder to dupe, so it was nice to see this get added to the permanent line-up. It wears a total of eight hours on me, but the color pulls into lip lines noticeably after six hours of wear. It takes about an hour for the satiny shine to wear down to a matte finish. It was neither hydrating nor drying over time, and it was comfortable to wear.

I find it a bit of a sickly color 🙁
Aw!
Nice, unique shade. I wonder how it would look on golden brown skin. I have trouble finding nudes that don’t make me look washed out.
On another note, what would you recommend between the lip tars and the Too Faced Melted lipsticks? Or are both worth trying? I have yet to try either…looking for something to buy so I can earn extra points with Sephore this weekend. Thanks, Christine!
They’re both worth trying, but Too Faced’s Melted seems easier to use to me!
I think an interesting colour, but it would be super scary against my skintones.
I can see this color being harder to pull off – I think it’s cool but don’t like it on my skin tone personally!
You have a lovely skintone and this does nothing for it IMO. Fortunately, a rare occassion 😀
A little off topic but you really seem to love Maestro foundation! I’ve read your review on it, but when I was at the Armani counter yesterday the girls who worked there kept telling me it has absolutely no coverage, and couldn’t really answer me when I kept asking what is it for, then? They also didn’t know why Armani stopped making the Master Corrector in Green.
On to the lip tar, this looks like it would be awesome as a base coat for layering!
I definitely don’t have any issues with coverage with Maestro – it is a lighter coverage foundation vs. full coverage, but it for sure has coverage. I have unevenness around my cheeks, but I don’t have any major things I need to cover-up or conceal, so it always just makes my skin look smoother, more even but doesn’t feel heavy. It photographs particularly well (I think it’s the more matte finish).
I’m on the fence! I’m not sure if I like or dislike the colour.
It’s not for everyone – I can see that for sure!
I don’t think I LIKE that color but man, it’s interesting. it’s like dulce de leche made into lipstick form. lovely finish, too.
It’s definitely well-done in terms of quality and finish!
This color is everything! It looks like a beautiful nude for deeper complexions. So pretty!
I’m really loving this. I’m finding myself obsessed with warm nudes / light corals / pinky-beige. I’d really like to swatch it on my skin as I’m much lighter than you and I’m worried it might be too orange (it looks stunning on your skin!)
I don’t like this at all for the color. I could see it being a great base to get that JLO nude lip for medium skin tones though.
Buttascotch! That’s all I can think of lol!
I love it!
I’m actually wearing it right now 🙂 It’s very unique!
Thanks for your in-depth reviews
Definitely a unique color..but it’s not for me.
Wow, I don’t know who could pull this off, it’s very unique but I can’t think of anyone that it would flatter. It’d be cool for like runway shows I guess 🙂
I would love to see what this looks like on darker skin tones. I know for certain this would look awful on me and my NC20 skin.
That is probably one of the more interesting lip colours I’ve ever seen. I can’t keep wondering how I would look wearing it. It’s a sort of morbid curiosity as I’m sure I could never pull it off, but the colour is so unique, I think.
I’ll not buy it, though. But in a world where I didn’t have to think about economy at all, I would totally get it.
This probably doesn’t make any sense watsoever. It’s late, here, and I should go to bed.
Too yellowish for my tastes, but interesting.
This is not a colour for slightly pink vampires like me, but I think it would make a fantastic nude for others! 🙂 I also wonder what its mixing effects might be like…
I like the color but I think on some days it would be too orange for my liking. I’m sure I’ll tweak it a little for those occasions either with a liner to tone down the orange or by playing mixologist with other lip tars. I don’t mind that so much because half the fun in having lip tars as part of my kit is being able to mix for the perfect shade for my client (or myself).
