Natasha Denona Palette 06 Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Palette 06

Natasha Denona Palette 06 Eyeshadow Palette 5 ($48.00 for 0.4 oz.) includes three more neutral shades with a pop of teal and blue. Unfortunately, three of the five shades were under-performing as they were drier and more powdery with two being sheerer as well. The two more intense shimmers had good pigmentation and applied much better.

Deep Teal (19M)

Deep Teal (19M) is a medium-dark, bluish-teal with subtle, cool undertones and warmer, golden shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It had rich color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. The texture was lightly creamy, smooth, and dense without being too firmly-pressed into pan. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably on my eye.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.08 oz. - $362.50 Per Ounce

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Suede (58V)

Suede (58V) is a light-medium brown with moderate, warmer yellow undertones and a bit of gold shimmer over a more matte base. It had medium coverage that was slightly buildable, but it was prone to sheering out due to the more powdery, drier texture. There was some excess product that kicked up in the pan along with light fallout during application. This shade stayed on decently for seven hours before fading visibly.

Skin (75S)

Skin (75S) is a light, golden brown with strong, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was dustier and drier to the touch with some excess kick up in the pan and light fallout during application. It had good color coverage but seemed to fade a little bit shortly after application. The color started to show more signs of fading after seven hours of wear.

Cream (21S)

Cream (21S) is a brighter, light gold with strong, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque color coverage with a smooth, lightly dense consistency that had enough creaminess that it picked up well with a brush and looked almost “melted” when pressed onto the lid. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Koh Tao (89V)

Koh Tao (89V) is a light-medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage that did not build up well, even over primer. The texture was moderately powdery, though finely-milled, and thin. It was difficult to apply the color evenly, and there was noticeable fallout (especially as I attempted to build it up!). There was visible fading after six hours of wear.

I don’t know why but I have such a dislike for pastel-y, matte shades like Koh Tao (and aqua and light green shades that are similar – they all remind me of what we used to call “landlord colours”). I do love the shade that shattered on you – I think that one is a beauty. I’ve dupes for the other 3 neutral shades and probably a dupe for that shattered one too.

You can just look at that blue and tell what kind of shadow it’s going to be, powdery, very finely milled, hard pressed and seeming to lack emolient. It reminds me of a terrible Revlon pallet I once had and never used.

This palette disappointed me, I wish I had returned it. I used it 3 times when it arrived and haven’t touched it since. If I keep it it’s only to use the teal, suede and skin with Biba.

This reminds me very strongly of the Colourpop Mar palette, except that one is lacking the the pool blue shade and instead has a bright mint shade. If I ever started wanting these kinds of colors in a palette I’d probably go the CP route honestly.

Wow- another light toned shade, this one called “skin” – so much unacknowledged racism in the beauty biz. Thanks for addressing it this week!!

It is really pervasive 🙁 It would be great if it’s something that could finally go away – it just seems like such an easy thing to do and yet would make our space so much more inclusive down to the details.
