NARS St-Paul-de-Vence Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS St-Paul-de-Vence Eyeshadow Duo
NARS St-Paul-de-Vence Eyeshadow Duo ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a mix of orange and medium brown, both warm-toned shades. These actually applied with more pigmentation when pressed onto the skin with a fingertip, as brushes seemed to make them apply more sheerly with a muted quality to them, but the satiny brown goes on unevenly with that type of application, so you might opt for sponge-tipped applicators or use a slightly tacky base. The duo goes together, though there isn’t a lot of contrast, so it may be too subtle together for some.
St-Paul-de-Vence (Left) is described as a “shimmering nectarine.” It’s a brightened peachy-orange with a frosted finish and warm undertones. It applied fairly well with good color payoff, but there’s a dryness to the shade overall that seemed to make it look more muted on the lid. It was noticeably faded after seven hours of wear. Makeup Geek In the Spotlight (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. LORAC Apricot (LE) is darker. Giorgio Armani Organica (Right) (LE) is yellower. Make Up For Ever I722 Mandarin (P, $21.00) is darker, less shimmery. Chanel Tisse Vendome #3 (P) is more muted. Too Faced Marzipan (P, $16.00) is darker, less orange. Clarins The Essentials #3 (LE) is lighter. Makeup Geek Cinderella (P, $5.99) is darker. LORAC Light Bronze (P) is lighter. Urban Decay Moonflower (P, $18.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
St-Paul-de-Vence (Right) is described as a “chestnut.” It’s a medium brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation, but the texture was a little powdery and dry, so it tended to sheer out and fade more readily. It only lasted for seven hours on me. Make Up For Ever S706 Milk Toffee (P, $21.00) is warmer, lighter. Make Up For Ever S604 Teak (P, $21.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever S602 Cinnamon (P, $21.00) is darker. MAC Plum Ember (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Femme Fatale (LE, $15.00) is warmer. Sisley Paris Toffee (7) (P, $47.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Country Girl (P, $5.99) is darker. theBalm C4 (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC One to Watch (P, $21.00) is similar. MAC Glimpse of Flesh (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. I am such a sucker for peachy eyeshadows. I wish that brown was a bit darker, but overall. .I may get it!
I bet you could find dupes 😉
For $ 35, these need to perform better and be easier to use
I was surprised that they weren’t as foolproof to apply!
Very subtle. Definitely a little too subtle for me. Especially since I already own similar shades.
Glad you are covered!
The colors do look similar but I actually really like both of them.
Yay! Do you think you’ll get it, Agata?
This was the one product from the Spring Collection I wanted. Bought last weekend, and its a soft look but great with light blue eyes.
Happy to hear it, Donna!
I swatched this last weekend, but I’m still on the fence… On its own, I find it too warm, but I can see pairing it with other shades. If it’s still around in a month or two, I’ll more than likely pick it up, LOL!
Yeah, I think it’s a duo that’s better used with other shades – it’s not the most versatile one on its own!
I really like the swatch of the second color. Together they’re too warm for me, though. I wish the first color was a cool toned beige or taupe (or cool jade or something), then I would wear it with the second color in the crease.
A jade! That would be neat.
I think these show up better if you’re quite pale (like myself – I’m NW15/Terre Neuve/Mont Blanc) – I didn’t have any problems with them at all! 🙂
I’m sure that would help!
I love the colors, but I think I’ll go with dupes in my collection. I’ve already been bad with my “low buy” this month.
Stay strong!
I wish there were more contrast between the shades. Maybe the brown could have been a bit darker and matte.
Same! When it comes to a duo, I like more contrast so you can get more out of it.
Too orange-themed to go on my actual face, but they are pretty 😉 I like them on your skin, though, Christine! So warm and jewel-like.
It’s funny, but I hated these on me personally. I thought I looked ill!
Oh no! 😛 I guess that’s the thing – stuff can look very different in the overall… for what it’s worth though, I think they do look nice in the single eye shots, LOL! 😀
I really love the look of this!
It’s an interesting concept!
Is someone else running Nars now? I can’t believe how much the quality is slipping in this collection. Thanks for the MUFE dupe ideas! Nice and pretty ,yet versatile colors..Yes,please!
No prob, Nicole! xo
A bit too orange for me (MAC NC20), though I have been known to use a bronzer as an eyeshadow in summer.
The lighter shade could totally work, but the other shade might not be the best!
It’s very pretty, but I have many of the dupes already.
Phew ;D
At first look I thought it was a contouring duo – the colours are pretty, but alas they do not suit me at all.
Easy skip!
Good timing, I just wore this for the first time today! I am really pleased with the application and overall look of it- using a 217 over Nars primer I didn’t have any patchiness. I love that I was able to almost perfectly recreate the Rodarte look (the pics from that show were the reason I wanted this duo) so in my mind my expectations aligned with my experience really nicely. I guess I’m glad I jumped the gun and got it right away bc if I had waited for your review I would probably not buy a “B-” product! 😛
NARS’ Primer would certainly help 🙂
Too orangey for moi!
Definitely not for anyone who doesn’t love some orange!
I really like these colors but I wish they performed better with brushes. It also would have been nice if the brown shadow was a little deeper for more contrast
Me too! They seemed promising initially, but they just weren’t so easy to use in practice.
Lovely duo but surprisingly the darker shade turned out lighter than i expected.. 🙁 .. Thoughquite dupable shades so not worth investing 😉
It is really pretty!
I swatched this palette last night & really liked it, which is very odd because I’m no huge fan of NARS. In fact, I normally don’t like any of their regular eyeshadow formulas…..or foundations…..or blushes…..or……..
Anyways, they’re really lovely peachy shades & I really liked the texture, although the shimmery one was slightly less pigmented. I’m kicking myself for not buying it but I think I’m gonna go back tomorrow & compare to the MUF shades. If anything in MUF Artist shadows come close, I’ll be purchasing the MUF shades instead. They’re just far better quality than anything NARS pimps.
These are nice but I feel like I’d need a darker brown for some definition because they look like they just run together.
Hi there, love the review! I was just wondering if this duo was limited edition or part of the permanent line. I’m a little short on cash but I definitely want this for the summer!
Limited!
