St-Paul-de-Vence

NARS St-Paul-de-Vence Duo Eyeshadow (2018) ($35.00 for 0.08 oz.) includes a shimmery, peach-orange complemented by a mid-tone, matte brown. Both shades were good, and the minor issues I had would easily be solved with a solid eyeshadow primer underneath. The two shades worked well as a duo, and they would also work well as a set of shades that could work in a variety of looks (using other products one has).

St-Paul-de-Vence I

St-Paul-de-Vence I is a medium, peachy orange with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan, so it was easy to use but didn’t have too much powderiness in the pan. The eyeshadow stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.04 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.

Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.

Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

St-Paul-de-Vence II

St-Paul-de-Vence II is a muted, medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was soft, slightly powdery in the pan, but it was extremely easy to blend and diffuse the edges on the lid but the color didn’t sheer out too readily (sometimes powderiness results in a color sheering away to nothing!). It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

This duo is just too pink and “blah” for me. Kalahari, on the other hand, is what this duo is for others – a quick and handy duo for a simple but flattering look. I was at Sephora yesterday and was dismayed to see how few of the new duos and singles they had in-store (I was hoping maybe they’d carry a few more than online, but NO) – and they only had paper stickers for about half the shadow sample pans – the products themselves hadn’t yet arrived.
