NARS Rated R Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Rated R Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Rated R Eyeshadow Duo ($33.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “shimmering chartreuse” and “electric cobalt blue.” This is the first NARS product I ever looked at–back when I just started getting into makeup–though I did not purchase it at the time. I remember feeling like if you wanted to wear bright eye makeup, you had to have this.
The chartreuse is light-medium mix of yellow and green with a yellowy gold shimmer. It reminded me of MAC Double Feature 2 and Inglot #343 (this is matte). The color payoff is good, and the texture is very soft and finely milled. The cobalt shade is described well by NARS; it’s blue, it’s purple–no, it’s a harmonious blend of the two with an icy blue shimmer. It is on the sheerer side and has a dusty feel, which is a bit of a bummer. It’s not as blue as Inglot #369 or MAC Winkle. On the other hand, MAC Cobalt is darker and purpler.
Per NARS’ website, their eyeshadows are supposed to be long-wearing and crease-resistant. In my experience, they still need to be worn over an eyeshadow base for all-day wear, but alone, they wear seven to eight hours with subtle creasing. They don’t fall apart immediately after application, but an eyeshadow base is recommended for best results.

This was the first NARS product I ever encountered. I love the colors. but not the price.
yea, they are kinda pricy, but I think they worth the money LOL
i still love this duo! it can be surprisingly subtle if used with a fluffy blending brush, and really vivid over a base.
I *LOVE* this duo. Both colors are awesome, and when you layer them the end result is so pretty and unique.
i have this, i love it! had it for awhile, the shades complement each other very well! the green shade kinda reminds me of MAC sour lemon with their rated r and bitter.. but better!!
Rated R is one of my fav NARS duos! So pretty!
This duo was my first forray into Nars shadows, after hearing so many positive things. I was very disappointed- as you mentioned, the blue is not very pigmented, and surprisingly chalky. It has all of the downfalls of a matte shadow without actually being matte.
Even with a base/primer, I feel like this duo fades as I’m applying it- to keep the vibrancy level anything close to what you see in the pan, I have to “touchup” several times before I’m finished applying. Unfortunately, for all their reputation promises, I’ve had this issue with every Nars shadow I’ve purchased.
Same here. I have over a dozen Nars eyeshadows, and maybe only two are any good. I guess I keep making bad choices because everyone else seems to love them.
Now their blushes are another story… I’m in love with most of them, and own too many!
Thanks Christine. Will u post a look using Nars Rated R? Because I just bought it, and feel a bit ‘afraid’ to use it ;p
Whoa. Those are some seriously intense colors! They look so beautiful, but I don’t think I’m brave enough to try to make them work on my deathly pale skintone!
BRIGHT COLORS LOOK COOL ON PALE SKINTONES! and dark skintones also
I like this eye shadow a lot even I am not a big fan of NARS. You can create different looks by using this….
I feel like in order to stay competitive Nars needs to reformulate their textures to be more consistent. But wth do I know? Lol…
Shame about the blue… that green is sexxxxxy.
I think if you’re gonna go bright, go all the way! Super-pigmented and bright against the skin, these appear already faded upon initial application. I’m not skipping b/c they are bright colors, but b/c they aren’t bright enough!
This was one of my first higher end makeup purchases! I used it once or twice and then it shattered when it got dropped 🙁 wasn’t impressive enough to buy again. Even when I was 14.
they looked better in the pan 🙁 why does that green look yellow? :))
I too bought this years ago, since I was in love with chartreuse at the time, but have since moved on to better things. With their shadows its been hit and miss for me too.
I have had this duo for years. I love it.
Love the Colours, they dont however go with each other.
I wore this yesterday to work!
If I wanted vibrant shades like this, I will go to SugarPill even though the range of colors is not there yet. The texture is not there for me.
