NARS Pokerface Nail Polish Review, Photos, Swatches (Holiday 2010)
NARS Pokerface Nail Polish
NARS Holiday: Pokerface
NARS Pokerface Nail Polish ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a new and limited edition shade described as a “vibrant lilac.” It’s one of two new polishes from NARS’ Holiday collection. I’m curious as to why NARS has started to push out more and more limited edition products; often, in the past, seasonal items were rolled into the permanent range.
Pokerface is a medium lilac with subtle pinky-red undertones and pale lilac micro-shimmer. It took three coats, but the end result was opaque, smooth, and beautiful. I see this looking particularly striking on paler, cooler skin tones, as well as deeper skin tones for a stunning contrast.
I’ve had good luck with NARS polish in terms of wear–about a week with just minor tip wear but no chipping–and this shade applied nicely. It wasn’t too thick or thin, and I didn’t experience any bubbling.

RECOMMENDATION: It’s a very feminine without being over-the-top girly; there’s still that bit of edge despite the lilac base color. I think it would work well on cooler skin tones, because it does lean towards the cool spectrum, but I still thought it worked with my warmer skin tone.

I wonder if this is Lady Gaga inspired? She does love lavender/lilac. Love this shade! But what is it with companies and hidden shimmer? 🙁 It makes me a sad panda.
I got his during the Sephora Friends and Family sale, I can’t wait to gt it, it looks beautiful.
Gaga inspired? lol.
It’s a STUNNING color, but man, $16 for a nail polish? I understand NARS is a pricey brand so I’m not surprised per say, just still sticker shocked.
Pretty for summer.
Wow, I like this a lot more than I thought I would. Damn, there goes more money…. 😀
Nars is way too expensive in Europe . Where I live It’s more expensive than Chanel for reference!:-/
Wow, I’m loving this shade of purple with the subtle shimmer 🙂
Are you going to be able to review the Nars Downtown lipgloss from this Nars Holiday collection? I’d love to see what it looks like.
I do love it but I have so many lilacs already. Some other cheaper alternatives to this trendy color is Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri in Lively Lilac or Essence’s $99 in No More Drama.
I swatched this the other day at Sephora and it just did not work with my NC37 coloring. Personal preference, of course. I do love the color, just not for me!
Amazing colour! It’s very elegant!
OMG!!! I love this color, I love the name, I love the texture…
this is so “right”!
This is stunning!! 😀 I love lilac shades.
Looks a lot like OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender
This is GORGEOUS! The two new nail polishes NARS released for their Winter Collection are both winners in my opinion 🙂
I think that is the most perfect shade of lilac! Pretty!
I just ordered this color from Sephora and am super excited to try it!
Looks nearly identical to my Sally Hansen InstaDry in Lively Lilac.
So so gorgeous!
The color reminds me of those Good and Plenty licorice candies. That being said, I dislike the color in general.
This color is prettier on the nails than in the bottle.
I love this! So pretty and feminine.
An original color, very pretty !
Lovely color! I love it
this colour was in fashion last spring and all the cheaper brands had it by then. I think nars missed the trend!
OMG I need this. Lilac is one of my favorite colors to wear on my nails, and this is like the elite!
I love this! I wonder if there is a dupe for it, because I can’t pay $16 for nailpolish! $10 is my limit, I switch colors too much to pay that much. Anyone know of a color that looks similar?
It’s semi comparable to OPI do you lilac it, and MAC love and friendship. I’d say. Not so much to lucky lucky lavender since that’s a bit more pink.
I love this color but I find NARS nail polishes to be a bit on the watery side.
This is soo pretty but I cant justify paying more than $13 for a polish D: $16 is only $3 more but I have to have limits or I would be bathing in nail polish…I love the name too!
your comment made me laugh!
SOO BEAUTIFUL. NEEDS TO FIND A DUPE.
The finish of this is really cool!
i really love this color but i have NARS orgasm nail polish and it chips alot ! did anyone find that nars nail polishes chips alot or is it just me? how do i get it not to chip
What base and top coats are you using?
I love this colour so much!!
Illamasqua Jo mina is much nicer but doesnt have shimmer
LOVE! I ran to get this from Sephora today after seeing your swatches….It was also the last day to use my F+F coupon, so I was super excited!
What a Gaga appropriate colour!
Pretty color…but not pretty enough for that price.
Finally a real lilac. Love it! But why it is not imported in Italy? :_(
Vale
that color is WOW! to me
It’s really beautiful this color. It’s exactly like Kinetics Yes! nail polish from their summer 2010 collection. Really seems like indigo copy. The good news is the Kinetics one is very cheap (4-5$)and super chip resistant. I would definitely recommend it to those who like this shade but don’t wanna spend 16$.
Per someone’s comment I went and got Lively Lilac from SH Insta-dry but its seems darker to me and not as blue as Poker Face. It’s pretty close though for only $5..
Was wondering if have the other holiday colour too – bad influence – been debating whether I need it too if I already have Chanel Particuliere?
Could probably skip!
agreed. both look the same on me.
I bought this yesterday and have it on now, it’s my new favourite polish. Since I usually wear dark blacks greys and blues it’s a huge change for me! I found it went on really well, needing only one coat.
there’s a commercial on tv that starts out showing a close up of fingernails painted with a lilac colored nail polish. right off hand i don’t know what the commercial is for — i just saw it today (3/28/2011). does anyone know if this is the color in the commercial? thanks
