NARS Spring 2011: Nouveau Monde

NARS Nouveau Monde Eyeshadow Duo ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “metallic silver lilac” and “rich olive gold.” The duo includes a cool-toned lilac with silver-gray shimmer and flecks of larger shimmer (seems smaller than micro-glitter but not as fine as shimmer), which goes on smoothly but a touch sheer; alongside the lilac shade is a khaki olive brown with a smooth, satin finish. The khaki shade has excellent pigmentation and texture–very rich and smooth.

  • Product: 26/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

final thoughts: It’s an interesting pair of colors–would not have thought to put a lilac and olive brown together at all.  Though I was slightly concerned about fall out issues with the lilac shade, due to the more apparent flecks of shimmer-glitter, it seemed minimal at worst.

Thanks so much for this review! I’ve been obsessing over this new collection for weeks now!!! One question – how does the silver shade compare to the silver in the Melusine duo? Didn’t NARS also describe that shade as something like a “pale silver lilac?”

vice Avatar

Is this the same lilac shade from Melusine or is it closer to the greyish lilac shade in Egea? Sadly, I will be passing on this one. I already have both Melusine and Egea for the lilac shade and patina for the brassy color. Have you gotten the Bateau Ivre duo? I need a navy e/s so bad.

thanks christine. interesting combo. on my screen it looks almost like silver/antique gold. lilac/olive is an odd combo. I only have 1 olive I really like, not a shade I wear often. really liking blue-purples lately but not this one too much

These are interested colors, but I feel like they’re just the spring version or muted down versions of Daphne and Mangrove (NARS Fall 2010).
They’re pretty colors, but I wished for something drastically different for NARS Spring 2011

Carrie Avatar

By themselves, they’re nice shades, but I find it to be an odd combination together – that silver pulls real cool and that brown pulls real warm – who could wear both shades?

the silvery lilac with a green sounds lovely– like an emerald shade. I’m not sure what I’d pair with the olive, maybe a rich golden peach

Is it only me or do i see this an extremely unique combination. At first glance, i find it odd. But if i am to imagine it to pair together, they really do match. Nars is a genius!

Initially I was interested in this. But the olive brown reminds me of the olive in Earth Angel (which is greener, less brown and prettier imo), and I prefer the combination of colors in Earth Angel anyway.
So I like but ‘ll pass.

By the way, I can’t wait for your review on the Nana lipgloss, Christine! 🙂

Ooh I’m excited, because I wanted Melusine only for the lilac side, but was disappointed that it wasn’t as lilac as I wanted. Looks like this might be what I was looking for.

How similar is this to the gold single(cant think of the name it sounds like Estruque or something like that) from the Holiday collection? or mangrove? I just don’t like the texture of the lilac color if its similar to Mesuline. Thanks

This is such an interesting pairing and this is something I’m considering from the Spring release (good to see it’s a permanent addition). I’m not sure about wearing the colours together though and would be more likely to use them as individual eyeshadows. Thanks for the swatches.

I can’t wait to check this one out in person. I really like the color combination because I would have never thought to pair these colors together. It’s unexpected and something I totally would expect from NARS. Did that make sense? hahaha

Nicole Avatar

This looks like a gorgeous duo, but I dont know if I can justify buying this if I already have sumptuous olive from MAC, which looks an awful lot like the olive side of this duo. How do the two colors compare?

Mariella Avatar

This and the Tzigane (it means “Gypsy”) lipsticks are the only 2 things I really like from this collection. The olive shadow seems more pigmented than Sumptuous Olive. Interesting colour combination – I just hope I can get my hands on it! Christine, are you going to do more swatches and a fuller review of the Tzigane lipstick?
