NARS New York Dolls Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

NARS New York Dolls Nail Lacquer

Be a Doll, Grab That Purple For Me!

NARS New York Dolls Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as ” purple.” It’s a dark purple with a subdued quality to it, so it doesn’t have a strong red undertone, and it seems just barely blue-based–but it’s so subtle and changes depending on the lighting conditions. Illamasqua Faux Pas is closest inc olor, but it is lighter and had a rubberized finish. Zoya Mira is lighter and more red-toned. SpaRitual Illume is lighter, bluer-based. Orly Purple Pleather is cooler-toned and has a rubberized finish.

This polish dries down pretty quickly, and the best part is it has a high-shine finish that’s glossy and reflective without need of a top coat at all (swatches show what it looks like with no top coat used). It’s almost opaque in a single coat (90%), so I still applied two swatches, but you could almost get away with just one.  The formula wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it flowed easily and evenly across the nail without pooling along the sides or streaking.  NARS’ polish wears exceptionally well on me, lasting as long as ten days without chipping and only showing minor tip wear.

As a girlie who adores all things purple, this just screams “Come buy me NOW”!! Love it. Will be camping outside NARS shop to buy up all the stock. Fab-u-lous 🙂

I loved this and, as you noted, the colour shifts. Even so, the colour was *very* different on my nails than it was on yours. I mean, like a different nail varnish “different”! Outside, the colour looked like that in your last photo but more navy, a sort of dark-blue purple. Inside, it looked purple with a definite dark grey tint! In other light, it was a grey-navy tint! Given my passion for grey, I certainly didn’t object. LOL. But it never looked like how it does in your first photos. How weird that the colour was SO drastically different from that in your photos. I actually went back to double check: http://gi27.photobucket.com/groups/c181/SY4TC2ZMWJ/IMAG0474.jpg

I’m so glad this one got a rave review! I was so hoping it would be great. This is the color I want the most since I don’t really have any blues in my collection. I thought with the purple-ish tone it would look better on me than most blues tend to. I can’t wait to pick this one up!! Thanks, Christine! ;D
