NARS Jardin Perdu Eyeshadow Duo

NARS Jardin Perdu Eyeshadow Duo ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a cool-toned set of shades that is new–and limited edition!–for fall. It’s supposed to be online on July 15th on NARS, and then a full release to the usual retailers on August 1st. I think if you really loved the texture of Kauai, you’ll love the texture of these shades. I will say these two felt a smidgen softer, so sometimes, it seems like more product loosens from the pan than necessary.

Jardin Perdu (Left) is described as a “metallic dove grey.” It’s a medium-dark, silver-gray with a frosted, slightly metallic, finish and cool undertones. It had good pigmentation, while the texture was very soft and buttery. The color wore well for eight hours before fading. NARS Bad Behaviour (LE, $24.00) is darker, warmer. Tarina Tarantino Diamond Dusk #3 (LE) is very similar. bareMinerals Abracadabra (LE) is warmer. Fyrinnae Frostbytes (P, $6.80) is similar. Kat Von D Piaf (LE) is similar. MAC Tundra (LE) is a cream product. MAC Evening Grey (LE, $19.50) is slightly warmer. MAC Silver Sleet (LE, $32.50) is more metallic. Giorgio Armani #21 (LE, $33.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Jardin Perdu (Right) is described as a “metallic amethyst.” It’s a medium-dark, muted purple with subtle warm undertones. It had really good color payoff, and the powder felt soft, fairly smooth, and dense. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading on me. NARS Kauai #2 (P, $24.00) is very similar–it’s just a brighter, slightly warmer version, but it was surprisingly similar. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #6 (LE, $16.00) is sheerer, warmer. Makeup Geek Bewitched (P, $6.99) is warmer. Sleek MakeUP Romance in Rome (LE, $9.99) is similar. Urban Decay Voodoo (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned. theBalm Lavish Latoya (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Rockstar (P, $18.00) is warmer. Urban Decay ACDC (P, $18.00) is similar. Milani Purr-fect Purple (P, $6.99) is lighter. MAC Grand Galaxy (LE, $19.50) is similar. bareMinerals Encore (P) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I think these shades would be too cool and silvery for me (silver never seems to look good on my eyes) but it’s pretty and I have nothing else like it, so I may try it out.

I`m planning to look through my shadows to see if I have a dupe for the silvery side (I don`t have any of the dupes you listed, though I`ve got 3 for the purple side….and I`m not even a huge fan of purple shadows). If I can find something close, I will try to skip this although I am so weak when it comes to beautiful eye shadows that there is a good likelihood I`ll cave and buy it. But you do have to wonder about why they`d launch such a similar purple shade. Maybe they know there are suckers like me out there in the makeup buying world!

it’s the combo that is doing it for me.. I didn’t realize how close this was to Kauai so thanks for this dialogue. The silver in the duo is definitely the proverbial nail in the coffin. I do not have many silver shadows, especially since the shimmery type tend to run too heavy and frosted for my tastes, just too much. This one on the other hand seems to hit the right note. Not to enable BTW..just observing and commenting 😀

Love this! And it looks so pretty on you! But I got Kauai, which I also like, so I guess it’s a skip. Odd to do two so similar shades in two collections so close together….

Thank you so much for the honest comparison of the purple shade with Kauai — I haven’t bought it but based on your comp I think I will bypass The Lost Garden (Jardin Perdu) and head straight for Kauai!!

I own a metallic dove gray from Bobbi Brown (2007?) and have been looking for that complex gold so NARS nailed it.

I am awaiting your reviews of Dior’s fall/winter makeup collection — so many palettes to choose from!

This duo also reminds me of Melusine, only softer, & more delicate. Although I have both Melusine & Kauai, as well as many of the “dupes” listed, I still plan to grab this duo. It’s NARS, and it’s purple… What more could I ask for, LOL?

Christine, lurker here to your helpful blog and first comment here.

By any chance, do you happen to know how the Nars silver compares to Burberry Pearl Gray?

Omg this is gorgeous!! The purple shade reminds me a lot of loreal purple priority, but a little lighter., with the bluish shimmer, but red undertones….but that silvery gray!!!!! I don’t think I have anything like it, & I LOVE LOVE LOVE gray & silver shadows!!! Can you think of any drugstore dupes? It’s perfect!

I love this combo! I tend to buy warm toned purples and quite often pair them with gold, so a cold purple with silvery grey would be so much fun.
I think this is a must.
Your look using these is just lovely, well done as always, Christine!

Christine, I hope you’ll see this question….I was at Sephora the other day, hoping to get on the “call list” for this when it comes in but the snitty sales assistant (they’re not usually like this) told me that they don’t do that any more for LE products and I’d just have to take my chances. GRRRR. Anyway, while I was there, I looked at the new Nars dual intensity shadows and wondered if perhaps Lysithea was at all close to the left hand side of Jardin Perdu. Dince I’ve already got Kauai, I figure I can deal with not snagging Jardin Perdu if I can just find a reasonable dupe that is still available, since so many are LE, for the left hand side.

Thanks, Christine. I think I’ll just have to be vigilant and call Sephora weekly (and weakly….as in “I am so weak and have no willpower”) and hope I get this. Nars doesn’t usually sell out all that quickly here (I hope!) so with a bit of luck, I’ll be able to snag this. Of course, I’ve now sort of fallen hard for Lysithea. See…WEAK!
