NARS Holiday 2011 Collection

NARS Holiday 2011 Collection

Created and photographed by NARS Founder and Creative Director, François Nars, the NARS 2011 Holiday Collection features model Mariacarla Boscono as the face of the season.

Mariacarla’s skin was prepared with PRO-PRIME™ Pore Refining Primer, evened with Siberia Sheer Matte Foundation, and set with Snow Loose Powder to create an immaculate complexion.

G-Spot Multiple was swiped onto the cheeks and blended toward the temples. To impart a fresh glow, Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush was swept softly across the cheeks and hairline, and down the bridge of the nose.

A light wash of Zardoz Cream Eyeshadow was dabbed across the lid, from lash to brow, and blended to a fresh finish. Next, the black with gunmetal shimmer of Arabian Nights Trio Eyeshadow was swept over the lid from lash to brow and along the lower lash line. The black with red pearls shade was blended into the outer corner, and the black with purple pearls hue was brushed across the lid and into the inner corner of the eye. The silver shimmer of Paris Duo Eyeshadow was applied to the brow bone and softly blended into where it met Arabian Nights. Lashes were curled with an Eyelash Curler and enhanced with two coats of Larger Than Life™ Volumizing Mascara. Eyebrows were bleached for a modern, dramatic effect.

Finally, Mariacarla’s lips were lined and filled in with Jungle Red Lipliner Pencil and blended with a fingertip to soften the color. The look was finished with Joyous Red Lipstick, applied to the lips directly from the tube.

I find Deep Throat so offensive when you read about how that poor woman was coerced into that movie. Naming cosmetics – generally purchased and worn by women – after those movies is uncouth, not titilating.

HBoo Avatar

I agree. Deep Throat, G-Spot, Orgasm and Super Orgasm are a bit much. We all know what they mean…

I wouldn’t want a teenager buying something named that. Too much sex stuff with Nars. Too bad it’s such an amazing brand with overly sexual names.

Miranda Avatar

I’m 16 and I find these hilarious. it’s more about the color and the product for me rather than the name. I own deep throat and it’s my favorite blush, I find it kinda sad that a lot of people are more focused on the name than the actual product.

Kaylyn Avatar

Wow, you are a very insightful 16 yr old and I agree with you 100%! I guess in this case opinions are like lip gloss….everybody has at least one! LOL!

Stephanie Avatar

I love the look of the eyeshadow trio! In regards to the names, I think if they’ve already done “deep throat” and “orgasm”, “g-spot” isn’t going too far lol.

divinem (Melissa) Avatar

Bleached brows are considered en vogue in modeling right now. It’s a trend that started around three years ago. I think it looks good when the model’s hair is bleach-blonde, but not brunette hair with bleached brows. You can see her platinum brows if you look closely.

Doll Avatar

Wow this looks pretty! Christine! Do you have any idea about NARS releasing something like Bento Box last year? Something expensive but definitely pretty? 🙂 thanks

So sick of the tacky sex names of makeup…just feels like they are trying too hard to be “edgy”. Why not make the products edgy themselves? For instance Illamasqua doesn’t need to do edgy names, their products speak for themselves… I am not a prude in day to day life, but I just don’t think it works with makeup, it just seems forced. Especially with NARS because it seems like their sex named products aren’t even their edgier products! G-spot, orgasm and deep throat (and super orgasm too I suppose) are all very wearable everyday colors!

OK done ranting haha.

LS Avatar

Um… one of Illamasqua’s recent releases (for Valentine’s Day, no less) was a cream-colored nail polish called “Load”. I hardly think NARS is alone in their racy naming habits!

Dana Avatar

Don’t forget their lovely dark blue sparkly nail polish, called “Phallic”. :/ Do tell me, how exactly is that gorgeous night-sky colour reminiscent in any way of a phallus? I mean, sheesh. I’m hardly a prude either but I agree — the names do not make sense on makeup products. Even edgy ones.

FadBurger Avatar

I was only talking about NARS because that’s what this is about, I think Illamasqua has some nasty as heck product names as well. Throb and (as you mentioned) Load are absolutely at the top of the list.

I didn’t mean that Illamasqua doesn’t do gross names, I meant that their products are edgy no matter what and they don’t need to do gross names for shock value. Not that their names aren’t gross.

GASP!!!!!
Everything is soooo beautiful! It’s been a while since I have been this excited by so many items in a NARS collection (usually 1 or 2 items catch my fancy). But I love smoky and dark!! Hope the pigmentation is close to pan…

Harleigh Avatar

I’m definitely looking forward to the trio, but will hold off for a few months. Don’t really feel like paying $90 from a brand whose eyeshadows are hit or miss.

Chapis714 Avatar

Sooo excited about the Arabian Nights, they look beautiful! Will definitely have to see in person, I hae the Night Series palette and they look very similar. Im really loving NARS they are really giving MAC some competition!

Scienter Avatar

The Arabian Nights Trio looks awesome! I don’t think I’ll get the silver nail polish because it looks kind of like Zoya Trixie, but Endless Night looks very pretty. I can’t wait for the swatches!

Naz Avatar

The eyeliners look great, so does Albatross as does G-spot. Always a sucker for a new multiple…they just perform. I’m not sure how I feel about that model. She did the fall collection as well, and there’s something alien about her. Could just be the angle.

Sarah M Avatar

Super super super excited for this collection. Of all the holiday collections I’ve seen online so far this one is definitely the best, for me. I hope the products are just as nice if not better in real life! Can’t wait.

Emily O. Avatar

Sorry but that model is too hungry/angry for me to find visually appealing. Having said that I was tempte to tell my boyfriend I wanted a “G-Spot (&) Orgasm” for Christmas but I visualized that look of confusion an held back. Oh please let Arabian Nights be pigmented! And I want Ponderosa as well!

Liz Avatar

aaaah, alien-model strikes again ><

And I agree with those that think the sexualized product names are silly – I really don't like how they think they need those names to sell their products…

Lucie Avatar

Ooooh ooh ooh need the lipstick, G-spot multiple (oh how I love you, NARS names), Campo di fiori liner and perhaps the cream shadow as well! Not a complete OMG I NEED EVERYTHING like last holiday…but my wallet is happy about that. 😉 And so glad a new multiple is finally being released! HG product!

AmyD Avatar

grrrr. every single time i think i don’t want/need any more makeup, nars rears its gorgeous head! i’m still loving the grand palais duo and pago pago lipstick from this year’s fall collection, but manchourie, arabian nights, and joyous red are looking like must-haves!

Jill Avatar

I love the look of the eyeshadow trio, but I’ve had bad luck with fallout on Nars eyeshadows with sparkle in them! I hope you end up doing a full review of that one, it’s something I either have to see a review on or else go try out in person first. Love the colors though.

Joanne Avatar

Is the eyeshadow duo supposed to be $33 instead of $23? I was so excited when I thought for a second that they lowered their prices but then I figured they probably werent supposed to be the same price as the singles. Anyways, I love this entire collection! Nars has been really stepping up with the recentcfall and holiday collection. I can’t wait to swatch the duo, trio, and multiple!

Kimberleigh Corbett Avatar

ok ,this is just my thoughts but……………..life is filled with complicated and difficult times. Bills, kids, husbands, etc. In my eyes, Nars is fun. I love the names. In my everyday, mundane life I can smile when I think, ha ha I have deep throat blush on.

Vitória Avatar

I dunno, by knowing NARS and looking at the promo pics of those glittery eyeshadows, I predict a CRAPLOAD of fallout. Hope I’m wrong, though… God, Mariacarla Boscono is perfection.

Emma Avatar

That’s just how she looks o_O Go google her, I’ve seen her in plenty of editorials. Celebrities are the ones that have a billion touchups, models do not need as much, they’re just blessed with good skin and features. lol. That being said, i NEED g-spot.

Summer Avatar

Christine, will you be doing swatches of any of these? I would adore swatches of Arabian Nights + info on any dupes, if they exist. <3 Thanks for such a fantastic, consistently informative website!

pLebiitah Avatar

I couldn’t care less about the name, it’s not like i’m gonna have it written all over my face, pshh!!
I ♥ Blushes so this it’s gonna be added to my wishlist next to “Sex Appeal” & “New Order” =D

christine Avatar

Christine I have a question, will this collection be at sephora stores as well? and when? I really want the trio but prefer to see in store before purchasing. Thank you! and I hope you can respond to my question:)

Pappetee Avatar

I had to look twice at the model’s eyebrows and it looks bleached, but I might be wrong. I am expecting a happier expression from the model’s face since it’s supposed to be a Holiday collection. (She seem so zombie-like, scary). I like the Nars holiday colors esp the Multiple, Trio Eye shadow, Grape nail polish and red lipstick. So excited to see Christine’s swatches before I splurge on them.

Chris Avatar

Reading the comments, I feel like I’m in a room full of teenagers… and I’m only 16. Realistically, most of us here are of consenting age and have a sex life. These things exist… humans are capable of having orgasms and women have G-spots. It’s the same thing as Urban Decay naming one of their products Gash – we all get them. Personally though, I’m more offended by Urban Decay’s Maui Wowi. I’d rather sex than illegal drugs any day.

patricia mata Avatar

all really beautiful!!!, but where are the samples? as you could appreciate it were to put some sample thank you very much for your attention

Amanda Avatar

I didn’t know Maui Wowie was a drug reference, ha. You learn something new everyday. Oh Urban Decay, also naming a green eyeshadow Kush.
I see what you did there.
