This fall, NARS Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) got a makeover! The range has been reformulated and has updated packaging with a slew of new (and familiar) shades. Notably, the pans contain less product (0.04 oz. vs. 0.07 oz.) but cost less ($19.00 vs. $26.00), and on a price per ounce basis, they’re now $475.00/oz. compared to $371.42/oz. Each pan is removable, just by pushing through the bottom with ease. There are 42 regular eyeshadows and 18 Hardwired Eyeshadows, which are pricier at $22 a pop (same amount of product).

P.S. — There are also 16 reformulated Duo Eyeshadows, which I am working on getting posted soon!

I don’t know about these. I see a fair amount of duds. The original Coconut Grove was much more intense, same with Galapagos (at least on my brown skin). The original New York is more plum, darker and more pigmented too. Why go through all of this trouble to weaken your brand? If they do this to their blushes, I’m going to be really ticked off.

I do like Pointe Noire and Firenze. Firenze looks like a possible dupe for a Mac LE Lorelei, which I’ve been looking for.

I agree about the old Coconut Grove. I just compared old searches and the new one looks underwhelming. Nooooo D: I have the old one from (5 years ago? I know I need to toss it in the trash.) but I don’t think I want to replace it with the new formula.

I agree – Coconut Grove was one of the few singles that I liked – maybe the Pro palette version on the NARS website still has the old formula? It’s a little less expensive as well…

I’m totall with you on Coconut Grove. I’m just about running out of the original and have been waiting on the reformulation before I get a new one, but these swatches are so disappointing. I guess it’s time to take a closer look at the dupes Christine has listed for that shade.

That is a herculean effort, Christine!! Been very interested in this launch and have picked up Sultan and Chile to dip my toe in the water already. Would love to see how these stack up for you, thanks so much for your hard work as always! 🙂

I have an older NARS single shadow in the discontinued shade Namibia, a cool, light matte gray. At first I thought I really liked it, but I have found it’s a difficult formula to work with. It takes extra work to get it to go on smoothly. Some of the shades shown here, like Bali, seem to have the same type of patchiness.

Night Star looks nothing like the original. Glad I have a few in my stash, but what were they thinking ? the original shade is a buttery champagne with glitter (like the rest of the night series) and the new one is like a satin finish? I always wonder why if the reformulation is so different, they don’t just change the name. Thanks for swatching Christine.

Hmm i wonder how the new dual ones will be. Im happy though that I got a backup of my favorite Kari. Ive also been stocking up on ones ive been finding at tjmaxx. Why fix something which isnt broken?! I dont get it.

I was so excited for this release but I must say based on swatches most of them really don’t seem all that good to me 🙁 I was planning to get a duo or two but those look like they’re not much better quality either. I am curious to see what you think christine. so far I feel like redirecting my holiday budget. like say toward that cheek palette nars is coming out with. I saw a sneak peek somewhere and it looks gorgeous, and I’m not even a blush person.

Not too many of these caught my eye. Goa, Hellcat, Verona and Banquise, that’s about it. So I won’t likely be picking up any of these.

I’ve been hoping and waiting to see these swatches — thank you. Well, what a mixed bag. All the Hardwired ones look rough; I can’t help but thing about how awful it would be to get a glitter bit under my contact. The mattes are really mixed — some look pretty good and some really not.

I’ve been on the lookout for a daily wear pink, Cabo San Lucas looks like a maybe, or Nepal. Reviews will be key.

I bought the new Ashes to Ashes and compared it to what I have left of the older formula. It’s essentially the same color, but it’s much sheerer now. And the size and weight of the pan is half the size of the original singles. 1.1 grams vs. 2.2grams of the original. I have to admit, NARS releases are not thrilling me like they once did.

So many of my favorites, ruined. Persia, Coconut Grove, Night Porter.

Glad to see they maybe made Outremer and China Blue a little easier to work with. Same can’t be said about Tropic and Night Breed.

These were already a hard pass given their current standing with China, but there is now a small hope that I can find some of the old NARS shadows secondhand at a reasonable price now with this wave of revamps.

Thanks for all the swatches of these! Do you happen to know if the pans will be available to purchase individually (like the how you could get the older pans for the pro palettes on their website)?
