NARS Dolomites Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Dolomites Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Dolomites Eyeshadow Duo ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a warm-toned set of hues from NARS’ upcoming fall collection, which launches online July 15th on NARS (everywhere else on August 1st). This is another limited edition duo (like Jardin Perdu), and the texture, again, was reminiscent of Kauai, with its really dense, buttery feeling. Dolomites works particularly well together for a quick eye that needs no other products to complete (I don’t find all NARS’ duos to be as naturally complementary).
Dolomites (Left) is described as a “shiny rose quartz.” It’s a muted, medium plum with warm, pink undertones and a metallic sheen. It had decent to good color payoff, but it’s a shade that works better built up or applied with a slightly dampened brush to really sing. The texture feels soft, almost creamy, and very smooth (not powdery or loose at all). On me, the color stayed true for eight and a half hours before fading. Sleek MakeUP Eve’s Kiss (P, $9.99) is less metallic. MAC Great Beyond #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker, less shimmery. bareMinerals Violet Spell (LE, $14.00) is less shimmery. Makeup Geek Twilight (P, $5.99) is less shimmery. MAC Performance Art (LE, $15.00) is more golden. MAC Daylight (LE, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dolomites (Right) is described as a “chocolate.” It’s a medium-dark, red-toned brown with a satiny shimmer over a mostly matte finish. The texture was incredibly soft and finely-milled, but this shade was on the powdery side, so you’ll want to use a lighter touch with it when grabbing the color or tap off excess prior to applying it to the eyelid. It had really nice pigmentation, though, and it wore well for nine hours before showing signs of fading. LORAC Untamed (P) is lighter, less red. Dior Sundeck #5 (LE) is darker. Divergent Burnt Mahogany (LE) is lighter. Sleek MakeUP Flora (P, $9.99) is more muted. MAC Dark Brew (P, $15.00) is less red. NARS Naiade (P) is much lighter. Inglot #122R Bottom (P, $6.00) is warmer. NARS Surabaya #1 (P, $24.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I like the pink shade
It is nice!
gah! crap..this one is gorgeous! Yup, I’m loving your eye look too 😀 Weird, but it the pan, it puts me in mind of the lightest Nars HAC duo from this spring.
So happy for the super quick reviews. I’m thinking I need to pick up both duos.
I really liked how well this worked *together.* It just seemed effortless as a combo!
I’m loving both of these Nars duo’s for fall. Better start saving some $$
Hope you can try ’em!
Oh God that Dolomites shade is amazing
It is nice!
The colours look so good on you!
Thank you, Natalie!
For me, this is a must have ! 😀
Enjoy, Karina 🙂
Even though I don’t own any of the NARS duos I love seeing them because sometimes they have really interesting color combos that I wouldn’t have paired together myself necessarily. I just look for similar colors in my collection and to get a similar effect!
Totally agree, Sophia! They are great for inspiration!
When you posted the NARS Fall sneek peek I liked the Dolomites shades so much that I set an alert on my phone reminding me to pick them up when they release. I’m glad they got a passing grade from you!
Aww! 🙂 Can’t wait to see you rock it!
I probably won’t pick this up, but you wear pink- and red-toned eyeshadows so beautifully, Christine!
Aw, thank you Amy! 🙂 Puts me in the mind of Neapolitan ice cream, lol!
so pretty on you but I fear it’s probably too red toned/warm for me. I’ll save my pennies for Jardin Perdu.
It is definitely a very warm, red-toned duo – while lovely and pretty, I can see leaning too warm!
I love the “rose quartz” shade in this palette! The brown shade is good too.
Do you think you’ll snag this duo, Jill?
I 100% need this
Woohoo! Let me know if you get it, Georgie!
I like how evocative Nars names are… The Dolomites mountains are famous because of how they become pink-tinged at twilight 😉
I didn’t know that! Thank you for sharing 🙂
I love the colors! They’re so pretty on you
Thanks, Fancie!
This duo is stunning.
It works really well together!
I really like the pink/plum shade, however, the brown shade would make my eyes look tired unfortunately! Darker browns can be tricky for me to pull off…
Bummer! 🙁 I can see the red in the brown it possibly doing that, though.
Even though it’s warm, I still want it!
Oh! That is an exceptional duo then 🙂
Huh, I expected them to be more pigmented on the eye after seeing them swatched!
I definitely had full coverage on the lid – no skin showing except, of course, where it was blended out 🙂
I love this color combination! Thank goodness I can dupe this from what’s already in my stash.
Phew!
Reminds me so much of one of the old too faced duos. The colours are right up my alley but I have dupes of them in some form or the other so I can safely pass on this. Yaay lol. Probably the first item that Ive been able to say that about in the past few days…phew!!
So sad TF discontinued those!
This is so pretty ( Neapolitan ice cream – yummy). I really appreciate your dupes Christine. Since I have Surabaya, I’ll use that and pair with another pink e/s from my collection. A pink from my Vice 2 palette or my Mac Rose eyeshadow ( a favorite). I’m really loving soft pink eyeshadow, brown-pink lips and nude pink nails this summer.
You are totally covered if you have Surabaya! 😀
Wow! Thats a pretty duo! Glad that NARS duos are being consistently good performers lately!
Me too! 🙂 Hope it is a trend to stay!
Oh dear…
i am weak with this kind of colour……
Uh oh!
SO GORGEOUS. But I expected the darker shade to be… darker? It can be built up to a darker hue, I suppose? UGH. Gorgeous duo, NARS!!
It definitely lightens once applied – I thought the red tones were getting pulled out more, which brightened it!
I’ve been looking for a dupe for Bobbi Brown’s Twilight eyeshadow from the Desert Twilight palette from Fall of 2012. Do you think this is it? Any other suggestions? They suggested their Rose Gold shade, but it is way too light and pink. I have the Lorac Unzipped palette, I’m hoping one of those may do the trick. My biiggest makeup mistake was not buying doubles of that palette and bronzer/blush. But by the time I realized how much I loved the shades on me, they were gone. I didn’t make the same mistake with MAC;s Sharon and Kelley Osbourne collection. I’m not a big fan of their limited edition collections, but Sharon’s collection was the perfect collection of golden browns, great for redheads, that I doubled on the lip products, and am trying to decide if doubling up on the eye palette is a good idea. New ones come out all the time that are tempting, but since I’ve never found dupes for the desert twilight collection, I don’t want to make the same mistake twice! Do you buy back ups of limited edition products that you love, or do you own and receive so much makeup that it is not necessary?
It’s very, very, very rare that I would purchase a back up at this point. If it’s a product that you love and use a few times a week, it would be worth considering a back up while you could. It seems like this could be similar to Twilight, but I am not sure – this might run less pink, more red.
In general, though, by the time I finish even a much-loved favorite, there are always new and shinier things to try, so for me, I’ve let go of the idea of back-ups. There are certainly exceptions, but the rule is to avoid it!
I love this duo but I unfortunately already own numerous similar shades so I don’t need it!
Money saved!
I really like the pink shade, but I feel the brown is probably a touch too warm for me to work with easiy. Still, it’s a nice pair in and of itself, and why does NARS have to keep giving things such impossibly romantic, geographical names? 😀
It is a nice reprieve from the sexually-charged names at least 😉
Sadly this combo looks too light for me. I’d have to do way too much prep work to have it do anything for me.
That’s a bummer, Trish! Do you think Jardin Perdu would work for you or is it too cool?
If you like NARS shadows, you can try pairing Coconut Grove & Ondine, which may give you a similar “feel”. Both are permanent singles, and are easy to find at most (if not all) counters/stores. Cairo, Nepal, & Ashes to Ashes may be worth a look, as well!
This is also a very nice duo. I will take a good look at it at the counter, I think I might have to get two NARS duos this fall.
Oooh! Do you think you’d try to wear them together (the two duos)?
That’s an interesting idea. Absolutely something to test and play with.
This one is so so pretty on you.
Thanks, Amy!
That’s a great colour combo
Totally agree with ya, Patrick!
I’ve never been attracted to any Nars eyeshadow duo, but this is so pretty and wearable enough to be justified haha
Oooh! See, always a first 😀
Too dupable for me, yet lovely. 🙂
Totally understand that 😉
The only other Nars duo I have is Charade, and I absolutely love it. I’m gonna pick this one up too.
Yay!!
I know this is an older post, but I’m wondering – is this not coming to Sephora? Not in my store, and not on the website.
It was supposed to!
I was really liking this duo until I saw how light it was on the eye itself… Do you think it would pop more with a primer underneath?
It may help!
