NARS Desperado Nail Polish
NARS Spring 2011: Desperado
NARS Desperado Nail Polish ($16.00 for 0.5 fl. oz.) is deep yellow gold with a golden-bronze base. NARS describes it as an “antique brass.” I think it’s a gorgeous take on gold–it’s clearly gold but so much deeper and richer. It’s kind of like NARS Etrusque in polish form. This polish is a bit sheer, though; at two coats, it was almost opaque but there was still visible nail line, and the thickness of NARS’ formula made me hesitant to put on a third coat (I also didn’t feel confident that it was going to get me to total opaqueness).
my thoughts on the formula: NARS’ Nail Polish wears a solid week on me with minor tip wear (along with a proper base and top coat, of course). The polish tends to be on the thicker side but not goopy. Desperado had a mix of being thick but seemingly watery, which I imagine is why it was still semi-sheer after two thicker coats.

final thoughts: The color is spectacular; I see it really complementing skin tones with yellow and olive under tones. It’s rich and deep and luxurious. As a polish with a slightly metallic finish, some brush strokes are visible though.

I could not wear that in a million years, but still a shame about the VNL.
VNL? Visible nail line?!? Christine, I was wondering when you would post the wet and wild reviews? I have been waiting so patiently since your awards and can’t wait any longer!! Lol!
Not for a few weeks, sorry!
Omg so gorgeous!
It’s a fabulous color. Tooo bad it will probably look bad on me.
It’s pretty, but I’ll stick to NARS Mash.
Such a beautiful color!
I think it looks beautifull in the bottle but too yellow on the nails.
Christine, Nars is my favourite brand. I find the NARS Etrusque eye shadow very difficult to blend. Any tips?
Really?! I use it with the 239 and is beautiful – and I’m not actually not a fan of NARS eyeshadow… well not a huge one? I suppose, lol.
Such a beautifu colourl! I am so terribly jealous of people with nice nails…have about a billion nail polishes on my counter that I keep for decoration but my nails are so oddly shaped they look crazy with polish on them. 🙁
Ooh, interesting. I like it a lot on you! Not sure it’ll look good on me though.
That’s gorgeous!! *o*
I had to get Pokerface because the color was too gorgeous to resist, but the formula was so disappointing. They chip so quickly on me, and they dry super slowly. But still…. pretty!
Gee that’s really pretty! It’s such a unique gold. I kinda like that it’s a little sheer.
Really beautiful color
I love the color idea! But I would need it to be more opaque at 2 coats. For 3 coats+, I would end up a smeared/dented antique mess.
I almost ordered this… I’m glad I didn’t cuz it’s pretty but not special enough.
Oh I am so going to get this! I can tell already that this color will look nice on my (NC 35-37 skintone, untanned darker when tanned) although I don’t wear MAC foundation I did get matched.
I just added in my wish-list… It’s a beautiful color and I love, love, love golden colors. I only need to check if it’s complementing tan to dark skin colors.
I think this is a great color! I would purchase it because I don’t own one like it! I generally don’t take into consideration if it will look good or bad on me…I TRY to sport them all! (Especially the interesting colors like this!)
I would LOVE to see it with a coat of Essie Matte over it!!!
I love this color, I just love these kinds of gold.
Not an attractive colour at all, in my opinion.
I LOVE Desperado. I have stocked up. Anyway, are you aware of a lip color that matches Desperado? This color looks great on me.
Your website is AWESOME by the way!
I don’t know of one, but thank you!
