Most Long-Wearing Foundation
What's the Most Long-Wearing Foundation that you've tried?
Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea is particularly impressive for me, because it doesn’t really truly break down on me through the day, even 10-14 hours into the day (without a primer). I feel like it gets a little dewier many hours later, but it doesn’t become patchy or sheer out. Make Up For Ever Mat+ Velvet was pretty long-wearing from what I remember (it’s been years since I’ve worn it).

Tarte amazonian clay 12-hour foundation has been my HG for this reason, it last 16+ hours one me. 😉
I absolutely LOVE that one, myself! Been mixing it with Lumene BB Cream to get a more natural radiant finish, but it still wears like iron even in this ridiculously oppressive AZ monsoon heat and humidity!
I use a Skin Base white foundation to correct the shade of Fair Sand lighter for me, but it holds up soo well in hot humid weather I’ve been using it since 2011 one days I know I’ll be wearing it for 16+ hours. 😉
I also love Tarte Rainforest of the Sea! I used to never wear liquid foundation because I hated the feel of it. This one is so comfortable to wear, doesn’t break out my skin, blends great and is an absolute perfect match for my skin tone. It’s also reasonably priced. I’d recommend it to anyone!
I wish Tarte made lighter shaded in RotS! Revlon Colorstay works well for me in longevity. Usually 10+ hours. It’s hard on skin though. NARS TM is long wearing but only with the right level of touch ups and blotting carefully.
Aren’t you too cool for Nars TM? Would have thought so. Big Nars color fan for, is it >20 years? But their founds, TMs, concealers are always too yellow, too warm, or both. And I’m not strongly cool anymore.
I am fairly cool toned, yes. Siberia works for me more as a corrector for my Rosacea. So I lay a super thin layer down sometimes regardless of the foundation I’ll top it with. In the Sheer Glow formula. I did this with PhotoReady from Revlon in Vanilla as well!
NARS TM in Terra Nueve is lighter and cooler than the previous lightest shade Finland. I can’t use it very well in the winter unless I buff it all over my neck and chest. It’s still not quite cool enough, but the peachy pink tone is more workable and makes me look slightly “sunkissed” without looking fake or out of place with my coloring.
Siberia in the cream foundation was a good color match as it was in the powder. It’s not as yellow in either form. Just yellow enough to correct my redness and to still be buffed in and look believable.
If Chanel would make a rose color lighter than 13 that would be about the perfect shade for me. I can use it in the summer and fall if I blend like a demon.
The best match I’ve had so far has been from MUFE with their new redo of the HD line, the lightest red shade. I’m keen to try their water blend one that was just revamped from the old one and has the same shade.
I’m also looking forward to trying Blanc in the Vanish line from Hourglass.
I also sometimes set with my Gabriel Organics powder foundation which is like an NW5 but sheer when applied with a brush to make sure it’s not too dark. I just have to set that with mineral water or some mist because it’s too matte otherwise on my dry skin. It helps simmer down too dark shades fairly well if they are in a shade or so of my normal coloring.
Back in the day, I used to get Prescriptives or use white and a colored powder on top. Or Colorstay in Ivory or L’Oreal Mattique in Ivory (which was superior in color to Colorstay).
Clinique Perfectly real makeup in the shade 01(N). Also, KohGenDo Aqua Foundation spf 15/PA++ shade PK-0. To both I add a bit of Guerlain Terracotta Healthy Glow Foundation Second Skin Effect (shade Blondes) in order to get a healthy look.
Christine, I would really like to try Tarte Rainforest of the Sea following your review!
I reviewed it when it came out a few months ago 🙂
Yes, I know 🙂 And I’ve noticed that in the past couple of months you were almost always wearing Tarte RoS with the different looks, so I’ve said to myself that I must try it.
Ahh, gotcha 🙂 Read your sentence as you would consider it after I reviewed!
Ah, grammar and ambiguity. I read it as Nicole meant it, but immediately said, that can be taken two ways.
You’re absolutely right! I should have been more clear 🙂
I discovered Dior Skin in 070 and not only is it my skin in a bottle it’s an all day, full coverage gem that I will gladly continue to spend $50 on.
Marc Jacobs Re(marc) able Full Coverage Foundation
TF traceless perfecting.. wears like iron but it’s rather hateful for the first few hours on my aging skin at this point.
GA lasting silk is pretty good. TBH.. If it is that hot, I don’t do foundation because everything melts in 40 C (the humidex is way up there today) so I either choose a TM, a CC, or nuttin but a wack o’ sunscreen.
For me and my oily skin, it’s powder foundations. BareMinerals Original Foundation is probably the best, though Everyday Minerals bases are a close second.
For liquids, Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long-Wear Foundation. I have no idea if it will actually last 24 hours, but it has lasted 14 on me. I haven’t worn it longer than that.
I’m a drugstore foundation hunter, so I’d say L’Oreal Infallible Matte and Max Factor Lasting Performance.
I have had 12H + with MFs Face Finity and Miracle Match.
Becca Mineral Powder Foundation. Longest wearing one on me to date. I like with with Tarte BB primer under and the Becca Backlit Illuminator mixed in, although that’s not totally necessary — just nice.
Estee Lauder Double Wear or MAC waterproof nourishing foundation
The only longwearing fdtn my skin can tolerate is the MAC pro longwear foundation. I think ELDW is the most longwearing…but its super mask and cement like.
With a damp blender I can get a fairly light coverage. You need a gentle hand for sure but it sure holds up in the summer though tbh I haven’t been wearing foundation of any kind lately. Too hot to bother and I have a job where I don’t need to be so pulled together:)
There was a learning period with the KVD foundation, but since I’ve figured out how to work with it, it’s been great. MUFE Liquid Lift wears wonderfully as long as I stay cool, which is pretty unpredictable these days. But the most flawless foundation I’ve ever worn is the Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, and I’m going to miss it. Hopefully I’ll find a foundation with a similar finish in a color that will work for me.
Totally agree that KVD requires some work but it’s the only foundation that I still see on my skin 10 hours later in the AZ sun.
Definitely Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+. I fact, since the shade I have is lighter than my skin tone, I use it as a “highlighting concealer” over any base+concealer that I want to improve the longevity of.
It’s not really a foundation but works as one for me because the one colour it comes in is pretty perfect – IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness. I also have pretty good success with MAC Pro Longwear and also IT CC Cream (the original, not the “illumination” one).
Probably my Cle de Peau radiant fluid foundation with Armani Maestro Glow in a decent second place. CdP is my holy grail foundation and wears so well for me and also comes in a nice pale/cool tone!
So far, it has been either MAC Pro Longwear or Revlon Colorstay. Both seem to be very resistant to even sweat breakdown, which one needs out here. Thing is, both are rather drying.
But for a much more skin-friendly, less drying, yet still lasts quite well foundation, I use Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation in Medium Honey mixed with Lumene BB Cream in medium. Which NEVER oxidizes or gets cakey on me, lasts me quite well even if I break a decent sweat, so that combo is it for me!
Lancôme Teint Idole 24H, absolutely. I have no idea if the 24 hour claim is true but I’ve kept it going for 14-16 hours. It’s my HG.
Honestly my answer will seems weird but…If i apply my makeup early in morning its like a disaster! after fews horrour my face makeup look like dirty, its like my skin wake up only after me!! lol
But i usually do my makeup at the lunch time and remove it after midnigth and more…
I dont use primer and i use powder only on T zone and i can say that my foundations are still there at the end of the day but if i need to give some names (not in order)i will say
*Chanel Les beiges foundation
*Guerlain Parure de lumiere
*Guerlain Tenue de perfection
*Guerlain Blanc de perle
*Too faced Born this way (in fact not on my nose,i dont know why it never want to stay on the top of my nose?! lol)
*YSL Touche eclat le teint (the old and the new reformulation too)
*Marc jacobs (Re)marcable ONLY for mix few drops with foundations for add more coverage and lasting (because alone its too difficult to use even if its really a remarcable and innovant product!!)
I am in love with a few, actually. IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Illumination SPF 50+ (Fair), Giorgio Armani Maestro Glow (#2), Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Color Control Bright Moisturizer SPF 35 (#1). I also use GA Luminous Silk as a backup. I’m very fair, dry/dehydrated, neutral/leaning cool. I like a very sheer coverage foundation/CC cream but with a healthy glow to counteract my dryness.
My skin tone & type is not an easy combo to find a good match. Everything leans either too yellow or warm – or just too dark in general. With this bunch, I’m all set. 🙂
Would like to try the tarte Foundation but I think they Do not have a really fair shade with pink undertone.
I still have not found a Foundation that is really Long wearing on me. They all get into pores very fast or get Yellow over the day. The one I am using for work is the matte one from becca. But I have to mix it because the lightest shade is still a Little to Dark and Yellow. Maybe if I Could wear it alone it would perform better. The Long wear Foundation from Bobbi Brown is also not so Bad.
I agree Kylie – I have looked on their website and Tarte only seem to have a pink + neutral shade. Which would be quite troubling to me as lots of foundations with neutral or yellow undertones turn brownish on me when they oxidise.
Estee Lauder double wear
MUFE Face & Body
Same! I’m bummed that they’re discontinuing it, but looking forward to trying the new formula.
I know! I’m devastated actually because I’ve tried so many foundations looking for just the right one, and now MUFE wants to recreate it! Why oh why did they feel the need to revamp perfection?! I just bought a new bottle of Face & Body before the ads for Water Blend came out, so I’m good for awhile, but hopefully it’s just as great or better. If it’s not, my search for the holy grail foundation will continue…
loreal infallible pro matte is super longwearing on me! especially if I use a mattifying primer on my t-zone, it lasts and keeps me from looking greasy ALL DAY
MAC prolong wear and EL Double Wear would outlast the apocalypse on my skin.
From the department store it’s EL Double Wear Light (my HG). From the drugstore L’Oreal Infallible Matte.
I am always looking for a really good, long lasting foundation in the lightest shade with pink undertones.
So far the Covergirl Luminous Foundation has been quite good, but it is winter here.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea hasn’t arrived here yet, so I am eagerly awaiting it.
I’m quite the foundation noob since I only switched to higher end foundations recently and I feel like MAC Face and Body really dus stay on but I never get enough coverage uit of it. I also really like Makeup Forever’s Ultra HD but it literally just melts of my nose.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 hrs….hands down
Laneige BB SPF 50 in fair. Lasts perfectly on me in all seasons but summer, when I have to touch up mid-afternoon for the effects of humidity. I am grateful for others’ sharing experiences here, as now I make a “go check out” list for these summer months.
Lancome Tient Idole Ultra 24 is still the end all for me here. It wears like Iron. I just ordered the new Urban Decay All Nighter, and I am going to see how that does.
Makeup Forever Face & Body stays put on me ALL DAY and NIGHT.
I’m definitely bookmarking this page as I’m still searching for a truly long-lasting foundation on me. The best so far has been Too Faced Born This Way, but even that breaks up on me about two hours before I leave for the day at work.
I do have Tarte RotS, but I’ve never used it as full-face makeup; I should try that once on a weekend. Right now I leave it at work and use it at the end of the day to touch up the “broken” areas if I’m going from work to somewhere other than home (whch is pretty often). The reason I’ve never tried to use it as my primary foundation is that it’s just too thin (light overage). I have rosacea that’s reasonably under control, but it left me with a permanently darkened face, and I need full-coverage to correct that. I’ve taken the step of contacting a dermatologist for a consultation about getting laser treatments to try to correct my skin tone — maybe after I can switch to a foundation like TRotS.
I ended up buying Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea foundation on your recommendation, and I’ve had the same experience. I had to add Body Shop lightening drops to the lightest shade, and they don’t alter the wearability in any way I can detect.
I got Rainforest of the Sea on your recommendation and have also been really enjoying it. It sits heavier on my pores than Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, but it blends really well with my skin the color matches much better. I think it may make my skin breakout slightly though. It definitely lasts, but by the end I feel a bit like I’ve been wearing a clay mask towards the end, that I can’t wait to get off.
I could definitely seeing it feeling heavier than LdP based on the coverage level, but I’m super sad about it possibly causing breakouts 🙁
