Quick Review: Maybelline Pink Peony Lipstick

Maybelline Pink Peony Color Sensational Lipstick ($8.29 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened peony pink with a frosted white and gold shimmer-sheen. It delivers full color coverage with very little layering, and I get an average of three to four hours of wear.

This is one of the clingier shades (as noted in my lipstick comparison post), because it has a frostier finish, which is drier than a creamy or satin finish shade. It’s not drying, though, but if you have flaky or peeling lips, this one might not work out so well. If you’re particularly sensitive to scent, ColorSensational does have a rather synthetic, syrupy sweet scent, but it seems to fade as many of mine just smell waxy. Each tube has quite a bit of product, which is nice, and they’re often on sale for far less than their retail price.

(You should be able to pick one up for less than $8, which is the full retail price, but I spotted it at $5.49 at Target!)

Welcome to Swatch-all-idays! To start 2011 off on the right foot (or post, as it may be!), Temptalia is going through a backlog of products we have photographed, swatched, and often tested but in a slightly different manner. Quick reviews may be partially incomplete, such as a blush may only be swatched on the arm rather than shown on the face. It is our hope that what we are able to provide is still helpful!

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! 🙂

RECOMMENDATION: I wish it was a touch creamier, but the color pay off is excellent!

I like the color but I’m wondering if it would suit my skin tone. I have light skin with very strong yellow undertones and this shade seems a little cool tones

Oh this is so gorgeous! And of course this shade is unavailable in the UK! So many times I’ve fallen in love with something featured on your blog and ended up tracking them down and buying the from the US. Oh well, just found a seller on eBay that sells it, of course for more than $8. 🙁 Never mind, it’s only a few pounds more than it would be in the shops (if this shade was available).

I wish this color looked that on my lips but it’s way darker on me, I guess due to my lips being very pigmented. Luckily I only paid $4.95 for it at Walmart.

There are many pretty shades in the Maybelline-lipstick range, but the smell of these is totally off-putting (plasticky). I tried it twice and both times they ended in the trash (can’t return cosmetics here, usually) because I felt already sick at the thought of using it again.
In fact many brands will never sell their lipsticks to me only because of the scent. If they just knew how many buyers more they would have if the lipsticks would not smell so awful.

To this day, MAC lipsticks are the most tolerable out of all of them just because they’re weightless, have absolutely no taste, and that vanilla smell fades away within seconds and is not lingering or cloying.

OMG Christine!!!!!!!! This is drop dead GORGEOUS on you! I bought this a couple months ago and I think got a bad one cuz the color didn’t come out even it was all splotchy and a different consistency than my other CS lipsticks. So wrote it off – but after seeing this on you, I’m back on the hunt for a fresh tube! BEAUTIFUL!

i hate frosty l/s, and unfortunately it seems like a lot of d/s l/s tend to be frosty. it could be due to left over of previous year’s trends or something, but frost just look SO ugly…frost and metallics on lips are ewww. D: otherwise the color looks great…in your lip swatches it never look as frosty/metallicy as it does in real life on my own lips, so it’s a bit misleading lol

This is quite pretty! I haven’t tried any of the Maybelline Color Sensationals. I was always a bit afraid of drugstore lipsticks until I got a couple of the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks, and fell in love with them instantly. I thought all drugstore lipsticks were ridiculously frosty, dry, and unpigmented! But Drugstore make-up brands have really stepped it up in recent years!

I actually have this one and I love it.
One thing I enjoy so much about this blog is the fact that the readers are so different!
I just read how Shannon hates frost on lips. Me on the other hand, likes a wee bit of it because it just gives more debt to the colour than a creamy one without a bit of shimmy in it.
Flat out ’60’s frost is not cool but this is lovely!

Thanks for the review, and have a Merry Christmas and a brilliant new year, Christine!

I have never been able to find a drugstore lipstick shade I liked, but this color is gorgeous!
I’m want it but I have no idea how to wear it. I wish you had a full face photo. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was looking at this EXACT same color the other night, debating what kind of color it was going to be. (I’m very new to lipsticks, so I’m hesitant on what to buy.) But now I’ve decided to go and grab it because I LOVE the color! Amazing! Thank you. 😀 I love your reviews. They help me out a lot since I’m so new to world of make-up.

Christene,
Every time I see your lipstick reviews, I have always wondered, but refrain to ask…
What are the spots on your lips.. What happened? Are they sunspots? Liver spots?
Thanks!
